Appearance

Being the full-blooded Wizard that he is, Arellas has gone to great lenghts to ensure that his dressing leaves no questions about his Magical Capabilities - His clothing of preference is a long robe, sporting a plethora of pockets and elaborate decorations with blue, purple and golden thread. He's also very attached to his wide-brimmed and pointy hat, that seems to have the same colour as the robe. A huge selection of occult trinkets and mystical signs has been incorporated in the outfit, either hanging from tiny bits of thread, or sown directly into the clothing.

Personality

Arellas is a Wizard of the Old Style. The story of his life is one of long nights in the Library, dabbling in arts best left alone by Human Hands, and incredibly lavish multi-course dinners several times per day. Wherever he goes and whatever he does, it's with the air of a man that knows for sure that he's got the right to be where he is and do what he does at all times, simply because the alternative is unthinkable.

His mantra is that commoners should stay out of Wizardly business, something they usually do - Arellas can be as arrogant and heartless as any senior Wizard, and has nothing but gruff remarks and obvious arrogance in store for anybody that doesn't know Woddeley's Occult Primer by heart, can summon a decent fireball, and can draw up a decent pentagram without looking and, preferably, without using their hands. Apart from this, Arellas is a remarkably intelligent man, posessing several doctorates and the kind of experience that comes from decades of field-practice that the bastards at the top of the Organization can only dream of. Or so he claims.

Arellas has a rather dour and cynic outlook on life, his youthful optimism and idealism having been left behind somewhere along the way during his career - Presumably in his youth. Instead he posesses a seemingly infinite supply of stubbornness, and even a shallow pool of honesty and morals, that drives him to go on with his work where more sensible men would have given up. This has in turn lead to some of the more spectacular findings and, occasionally, some unusually spectacular catastrophes, something that's both lead the Archmagi to hand him some of the more difficult jobs and deny him a place amongst their ranks until further notice. For some reason, they also make sure that most of the Credit ends up with themselves, thus denying him any repubtation outside Dalaran. This has done nothing to help on his almost constantly shoddy mood.

His nickname, "Candlelight", is derived from the knowledge shared by all senior Wizards, and that Arellas has made sure to imprint on as many younger Wizards as possible in the various Dalarani Bars - That a spell without the special effects is, in nine of ten cases, hardly worth the bother. It's all about putting the spotlight on your mystical connection with the otherworldly, usually trough a plethora of candles and coloured chalk, to prevent leymen from starting to ask daft questions like why this guy in the ridiculously lavish robe has the right to barge in wherever he wants and draw pentagrams all over the bloody street.

History

Arellas was born in Hillsbrad in a family of wealthy merchants, but what was first planned to be a life of shipping metal northwards was lost forever, when a group of Dalaranian Wizards on leave decided he was Mage-material. Knowing a safe future when he saw one, Arellas' father agreed to send his son away to the Dalaranian Schools, where he was tutored from young age. Arellas took a degree in Applied Theurgy when he passed 23, and has later reinforced his knowledge with several others, some aquired trough studies and some earned trough excessive amounts of fieldwork.

Arellas was, as a young man, somewhat of an idealist, spending many a year searching rabidly for sense and system in a world that seemed to act at random - Later on, this idealism was exchanged for a far more realistic goal; Making sure his personal universe and surroundings acted decently, and let the rest of the world keep itself.

Magic has always been the order of the day for Arellas, and it's usually been easy to fill - Like many human wizards, he has an easy time with both channeling the Arcane and ignoring it's side-effects. This talent, as well as the sort of devotion that comes with knowing you're stuck in society's upper crust for life if you play your cards right, eventually earned him a place as one of the Magi in the Kirin Tor - Wizards whose integrity and cleverness has lead to a host of long days in dusty cellars, and long nights in their Studies, archiving their finds and writing essays on the items discovered in the aforementioned cellars.

Usually working with a fellow Wizard named Orin Mandrake, the pair of them eventually went out in the world and forced their way to a few truly remarkable discoveries, as well as a couple of disasters that ensured that neither one of them got the rank of Archmage that often comes with old age and multiple doctorates. When asked about these Disasters, Krutz usually just barks that one should ask the Mayor of Misthollow, and leaves it at that. While the Village of Misthollow is easy enough to find at the Dalarani Maps, the scenery seems to just repeat itself until you've already passed the clot of land supposed to hold the Township, thus leaving the Mystery unsolved until further notice. At any rate, the duo got their work done more often than not, having been overqualified for this kind of work for a fair while already - To compensate for the lack of promotions, they both got spots as Assistants to the Kirin Tor Chief Archivist, Theodore Malich, leading to a new era of fieldwork with good pay and some elderly nob nicking all the credit. The most recent assignement involves updating the catalogues of Arcane Items and Knowledge in the Kingdom of Stormwind, a routine-job that Krutz is hell-bent on making interesting, even in a backwater Kingdom like Stormwind, a place where they still think Magical Lanterns is pretty clever stuff that nobody's really gotten around to using yet.
