Appearance

Anuil is always wearing a deep purple hood and the tabard of Darnassus. She dresses in these colors to better blend in with the foliage of Ashenvale. Light leathers to compliment her agility and prowess for stalking through the forest suit her best, and she usually sticks with these. She doesn't often dress formally, and it is very rare to see her sporting something that is not battle functional.

Other: Anuil carries herself with a sense of controlled authority. Her build is on the muscular side from her years of strict training with the Sentinels of Ashenvale. She typically fights florentine style; wielding two swords at her hips as back-up should her bow and long range not be enough.

Personality

Anuil is, first and foremost, a leader in nature. She is familiar with the responsibilities of making decisions and therefore is not afraid to do so. While this may cause her to seem overly-confident, there are regrets which Anuil clings to. Given the length of her experience on Azeroth, these regrets have and will continue to build up in the back of her mind. This leads Anuil to be cautious: If she is going to regret a decision for the rest of her life, there must be a good reason for it in the first place.

Anuil can also be characterized as stoic or unemotional in most exchanges. Extreme outbursts are largely unheard of from Anuil, as her long-time Night-Elven friends can attest. It would also be correct to say that Anuil is something of a control-freak. She is used to being in control of herself and the people around her; when put in a situation without reason or a chain of command, she can become irritable and will usually assert dominance to bring order.

With these things said, Anuil is also largely an idealist. She believes in a world where life is sacred, even the lives of things such as Orcs. Her role, in the grand scheme of things, is to help create and protect life, not take it. While this can be very difficult due to racial tensions, Anuil tries to focus her efforts on attacking things such as the Burning Legion and Scourge Remnants rather than the Horde. Not many of her brethren agree with her philosophy, so she usually attempts to keep these private thoughts to herself for fear of exile or being shunned.

History

Anuil was born during the turmoil of the years before the War of the Ancients. Anuil's mother was a very authoritative figure, being a soldier. Her father, a druid, was rarely awakened for long enough to interact with his daughter; when he was present, he attempted to instill in Anuil an appreciation for nature aside from her mother's near-obsession with combat. This two-sided education culminated to make Anuil what she is presently: A hunter, a soldier, and a leader at heart. It was from her father that her idealism came, her love of life and the idea that everything deserves a chance to exist.

Her mother pushed her hard, however, and when Anuil was old enough she petitioned to join with the Sentinels, to follow her mother's Huntress lifestyle. She was eventually accepted, and was trained to be an effective combatant. Anuil was very inquisitive of her superiors, always questioning the logic behind individual decisions in an attempt to clearly understand the tactics being utilized. She was a curious young thing back then, always wanting to know the why a decision was being made and what greater function it served. How she loved to pick apart thought process, which would later come in handy for her when she began to lead her own squad.

Often, Anuil would volunteer throughout her life to look over her niece Sindri. The child had been largely unwanted, or an accident, but Anuil never treated her that way. She enjoyed the company, and the child was fun to watch and spend time with. In Sindri, Anuil saw such potential for greatness. She would teach the child a few things here and there from her arsenal of information and skills, and they would grow as close as an Aunt and a niece could. When Sindri eventually became a Watcher and then a Warden, Anuil could not have been more proud.

Much later on in her life, Anuil was out one day patrolling a barrow den in Ashenvale. There she stumbled across two druids who had awoken from the Emerald Dream. In a short time she came to know the two as friends. The older was named Maladras, who had a similar appreciation for combat as Anuil, and the younger, Celadrin Aldrien, who was more interested in the prospect of peace. Over the course of another thousand years, Anuil would visit the barrow den several times. Maladras remained a close friend of hers, while she and Celadrin became lovers.

Celadrin and Anuil would eventually come to conceive a daughter; naming her Surienna upon her birth. Anuil had little time to care for the child due to her responsibilities as a Sentinel, but did what she could to teach her daughter the art of combat. Their lessons were cut unfortunately short, however, as the forces of Grom Hellscream invaded Ashenvale. Anuil fought valiantly throughout the Third War, up until the Battle for Hyjal. There, in one day, Anuil lost her love, her parents, and her immortality, though she escaped with what remained of her life.

With her confidence shattered, she could not bear to return to her homeland and face her only living kin. In fact, all of Ashenvale came to be a living symbol of what she considered to be her personal failure as a soldier and life-bringer. Anuil traveled as far as she could from Hyjal, and wandered for years through the remains of the Night-Elven Empire; without fail, she found the scenery to be too familiar, too filled with memories. With overwhelming feelings and pangs of depression and regret, Anuil's only recourse was to sail for the Eastern Kingdoms. With the Alliance forged between Humans, Dwarves, and her kind, Anuil would commit herself to a life of travel and service to those too weak to protect themselves.

It wasn't until after fighting for the destruction of the Lich King that Anuil, with the prodding of her family and friends, eventually decided to return home and reinvent what had been so important to her. The feeling of hope, the feeling of having something worth fighting for, that was what the Oathkeepers meant to her and still continue to do so. Having given up her Sentinel position, Anuil no longer had any real military authority, and instead relied on her friends, family, and friendly recruits to bestow upon her the title "Ranger-General" in honor of the dedication and skill she had possessed in the past. The title was something given by these people to her, but she still largely detested the formality of it; merely wanting to work alongside her kin again.
