Personality

Alignment: Lawful Neutral

Alric is respectable, dependable, and sometimes ruthlessly cunning. He cultivates an air of formality and pleasantness that serves him well as a head of household, and also conceals the more sinister and unsavory aspects of his training. Truly, Alric understands the duty to which he is employed, though he also knows the need to occasionally enjoy himself through his two great passions: cooking a fine meal and painting a fine picture.

While his life leaves him little time for personal advancement, Alric loves to take in the sights when he can. He dreams of one day overseeing a large estate for a wealthy noble, with many servants beneath him and a solid place in the household.

History

Many of Silvermoon's Lesser Houses are specialized to serve the needs of those who belong to the Great Houses; one among these is House Lanarien. The house has a reputation of some regard, but not as magi; instead, the Lanarien serve as hired help. Chefs, enchanters, bookkeepers, and butlers all count among the ranks of the Lanarien. Some of these lucky men and women become trained in the arts of the head of household, the member of staff who oversees all servants and help. In this role, they learn not only the art of their profession, but the courtly arts of deception, medicine, and elegant violence. In the Game of Houses, the most trusted of the wait staff not only has to be trained to serve their lords, but to defend them in times of need.

Alric Lanarien was born into the family, raised to be among the ranks of nobility… as a butler. His early life was lived half in training and half among the other children of his house, developing his own talents. Early on, Alric showed promise interacting with others, easily slipping into the social mode in the presence of children and adults. This marked him by his teachers for the butler's path, involving the skills of engaging in conversation in a polite setting and honing his etiquette and social prowess to a razor's edge.

As he grew, he learned how to cook elegant meals, how to entertain guests, and how to keep meticulous records, the essential business practices behind running a noble house. When he was ready, he was apprenticed to one of the family members who ran the affairs of the Hawkwind household's southern-Eversong estate.

After completing his apprenticeship, Alric took over as the overseer of the estate's affairs, both providing for the lavish parties of the Silvermoon nobility and monitoring the day to day business of running a small palace and garden. A minor hiccough in this work arrived with a Human named Arthas, who might have had some skeletons.

Of course, the Scourge rode roughshod all over the Eversong woods. The manor suffered nothing less than complete destruction, though Alric escaped with many members of his staff during the commotion. Unfortunately, the Hawkwind heirs were slaughtered while staying at the home of a friend, leaving Alric unemployed in a time when good help was not required. His addiction to magic was not as acute as many of his kin who used it daily, so he was able to ride out the withdrawals long enough to see Kael'thas' salvation arrive in the form of Fel magic. As he sated his addiction day by day, Alric's once light hair became darker, dulling to a ruddy auburn as his eyes shifted from blue to green.

Alric waited out the dry spell by working in one of the few high-class restaurants that remained after the destruction of Silvermoon City. While such a position felt beneath him, he earned enough to live quite well while he searched for more permanent employment at the right hand of a noble. As it stands in the present, the Lanarian family lives on in many servants, and Alric himself is searching for a place at the table of wealth. With the Sunwell restored, Alric hopes for a new dawn to rise in Silvermoon, heralding an era of opportunity for people like himself as the Sin'dorei come into their own again and rebuild.
