Personality

Alignment: Chaotic good

Aldous is a man of science. He has his own sense of humor and ideas of entertainment--honest!--but he relegates such trivial matters to free time, of which he considers himself to have little. He never seems to mind work, even if it requires him up in the twilight hours of the morning; he's much more concerned with coming to a conclusion, whether it be fast or slow. He doesn't enjoy being rushed. He also takes most matters on with a rather serious attitude, even if the people he is alongside will not; he enjoys putting out a professional image, in short. In company he often comes off as rather arrogant, always considering himself to be right until faced with conclusive evidence otherwise.

Despite a detached outer shell, Aldous is truly an altruistic person. He believes that scientific endeavors are to create rather than destroy, and thus he strays away from hazardous outcomes in his work. He denounces any project in which others are put into more danger than himself, and would is quick to perform a test of a potion on his own body before he would ask another to do the same.

History

Aldous Silverlight was born into a family of relatively fair standing. Born the youngest of a pair of brothers to a conjuror and an evoker, it was early into his life that he was thrust onto the path of the arcane by his parents. Aldous was, at first, extremely intrigued by the promise of the arcane. Even as an adolescent in his years of training he began to excel, often moving past his instructor's expectations; while some might attribute it to a natural affinity to magic, it was actually nothing more than his tendency to read ahead, often finishing books of spellcraft much sooner than his instructors had initially intended. While he was fairly average in terms of his power, the speed at which he took up new incantations and spells was what set him apart from most of his peers.

However, despite being a studious apprentice, Aldous became disinterested with the spellcraft as he became older. By his later adolescence the question was not 'what is next?' but instead 'why?' and 'how'? He no longer seemed interested in pursuing new techniques or learning new incantations--instead he spent all day and night in between the libraries and his home, pondering over heavy tomes of magical theory. He found a renewed fascination, and it began to drive him into other subjects; alchemy, divining, and transmutation were topics he became well versed with, among many less notable topics. By the time he finished his studies and moved on to the academies he had began to seek a path in engineering, or at least, the design of technological and magical structures. By this point he was, simply put, a jack of all trades, but a master of none. While he may have had an expansive knowledge he failed to truly put most of it to use, instead jumping from topic to topic, often leaving many of his teachings incomplete.

By the time of the Scourge invasion of Quel'thalas, Aldous was nowhere to be found in the land of the elves. Instead he had moved south, taking up an apprenticeship in Dalaran. When news of the attack reached the city, Aldous was deeply troubled. He made multiple attempts to send word for his family, but to no avail. Finally after many failed attempts, he made the trip himself (a trip which would come to save his life, as the destruction of Dalaran was not far away). He dropped his teachings in Dalaran and made way to Silvermoon, where he was able to find his mother and sister amongst the ruins. His father had been completely unaccounted for, though it was generally assumed that the man had died defending the Sunwell alongside the brunt of the other evokers. While Aldous mourned for his father alongside the rest of his family, the death of the family's patriarch did put the young students life into a bit of perspective; the death of his father imparted to him that death was certain; immortality or not. Death could come from the passing seasons or a warrior's blade.

Aldous spent the following years in transit. He moved alongside his sister and mother through the ruins of Silvermoon, and eventually out to meet the rest of his brethren in the remnants of Dalaran. There he sought lessons from the other Sin'dorei, as they had come to call themselves, and alongside his house gradually fell into the mana addiction as well. Aldous in particular became a heavy user of bloodthistle, and his addiction was apparent. He aided the other Sin'dorei, usually by aiding in the development and construction of fortifications. He became something of an asset to the Sin'dorei's build teams, often converging with the others to design new structures to defend their weakened people.

By the time of the Alliance betrayal and the exodus to Outland, the now fully adult Aldous was a vigorous supporter of the prince. With the recent turn of the Lordaeron forces he became embittered to all but his own kind, something which his still growing irritability from addiction seemed to kindle even more. When the Sin'dorei emerged in the shattered red world of Outland Aldous worked with the countless other zealots to the crown to create the rudimentary design for structures such as the mana forge and the later employed mana bomb. By this point his knowledge of the arcane had become very expansive, though his actual practice of it had waned even more. He was a fervent builder, creating a vast array of designs both faulty and successful, and cooperatively aided in the design of many more. When the rebuilding of Silvermoon began, Aldous was amongst the other builders who rose to aid the reconstruction--he was amongst some of the last builders sent to the city.

By the time he arrived in Silvermoon, public opinion of the king had begun to sway. At first Aldous was appalled by the rumors that had become virulent amongst the Silvermoon residents--initially he was moved to return, and leave the populous before they incurred Sunstrider's just wrath. Before he could depart, however, he found himself stopped by his sister, now a Farstrider amongst the newly reformed Silvermoon. While her voice of reason was still met with hesitation she convinced him to stay, and then promptly knocked him out and held him prisoner within the family's home when he attempted a second flight back to Outland.

During this time Aldous was forced into detox from his addictions of fel and herbs, becoming more dependent upon the arcane and the Sunwell ring which was given to him by his family. As his mind cleared he grew to understand more of what had been incurred upon his people, and the darker allegiances of the prince of the Sin'dorei. Free of his blind faith in the prince, he renounced his affiliation to the crown, pledging himself to the new alliance forged between the Sin'dorei and the Horde.

During the recent years since the Blood Elves joined the Horde, Aldous has adjusted to his life back in Silvermoon. While not completely free of his addiction to the drug of bloodthistle he has instead managed to hold himself to the less destructive manathistle, which he professes to clear his mind and enhance his thinking. Or perhaps he's just high. Either way, since his ties to the Sunstrider crown were broken he has taken up a full study of magical theory.

He returned briefly to Dalaran to finish his classes in proper, and from there has used his credentials to publish a variety of books, most of which are in depth studies of magic and science and beginner's guides to the both. He has began to publish yearly logs of his studies (three, as of current), and has enjoyed a generally positive reception from the rest of the scientific community (which is mostly restrained to Silvermoon and the Undercity, for obvious reasons). Other circles brand him as overly intricate in his wordings and mosaic in his ordering of chapters, and some in the upper echelons of learning in Dalaran call his studies either too basic or lacking sufficient depth in his notation of his studies.

He professes to care little about what his critics would like to say, but gives his thanks for their purchasing of his book so that he may produce another.

He is currently traveling about Azeroth and the Outlands, always seeking more information to commit to his new log of studies.
