Alastor is a very closed individual, when someone finally gets through to him, he will appear as a very unsettling and cold-hearted person. At a rare occasion if the person provides a interesting conversation to Alastor, he will open up and become more friendly to said person. Alastor is extremely cautious, he thinks everything out and examines the current situation before approaching anything. Alastor hates pointless violence and usually attempts to settle a fight without using force.

History

Alastor was born to an extremely wealthy family who was then taking residence on the countryside of Lordaeron. His family was a devout one and greatly shunned schools of magic such as Arcane, Fel and Nature as being otherworldly and unholy. Unlike many children, Alastor was sent to a monastery to get an education. There he studied his years away learning basics such as arithmetics, grammar, reading and writing. A year before Alastor would finally be released from the monastery, he would learn how to use the Light and wield it for just cause. Many months passed and Alastor failed to grasp the concept of the Light and cast simple spells. Even the smallest healing spell would be attempted with great vigor and fail most of the time. No matter how hard Alastor tried, there was no way he would ever control the Light flawlessly. There was no peace in the young man anymore, only seething rage that he attained from his inability, this rage weakened his skills with the Light even more and fueled something much more darker.

Alastor would not give up and kept on practicing, much work he put into his training, countless hours he spent studying the Light, alas, he could not succeed. Having no hope for himself, he went into a depression. Slouching in the local library one day, he slammed himself into a bookshelf, sobbing hopelessly, when a heavy object fell on his back, rendering him unconscious.

Several days later he woke up in a ward, being treated for a sprained neck. The object that fell on him was a book as it appeared on the counter beside him. He took the book and began reading it. As he got finished with it, some time has passed and his injuries were healed. This much was clear to Alastor, that there is an opposite to Light, Shadow. This Shadow was a malevolent twin of the Light, it's own fearsome plane. If the Shadow was to be controlled correctly, the person wielding this power could easily destroy anyone from the inside, causing much pain and agony. This topic seemed extremely intriguing to Alastor and he was greatly interested in controlling such a power. After learning from his overseers that this art was forbidden and extremely taboo he decided to find a master that would instruct him after he would be released from the monastery.

Even after Alastor's failure to grasp the Light, he excelled in every other class, and with a little monetary help from his relatives, he graduated from the monastery. Life went by for Alastor as he was still seeking someone that would teach him about the Shadow, armed with nothing but this strange tome, he studied it relentlessly, even attempting some of the spells. But he failed horrendously, giving him even more anger which extinguished his abilities even further.

One day Alastor was honing his skills out in the woods, practicing his spells on the local wildlife, alas, the spells were so poorly formed and weak that even wild boars could resist them. And during his practice, a hermit saw him, he approached Alastor and asked him, "What are you doing out here, boy? Haven't you ever seen what happens with people who invest their soul to the Shadow?". After a lengthy confrontation he realized that this hermit was a practitioner of the Shadow aswell, Alastor pleaded the old man to teach him, and after many refusals the hermit finally accepted. Alastor ran away from home to study under the old man's wing. Many years passed and with great difficulty Alastor acquired what he has been missing all along, discipline. With disciplinary training Alastor could easily control the Shadow, basics came to him with great ease and he even managed to grasp some of the more advanced spells. Seeing as his student was getting out of control, the mentor decided to put an end to him, but Alastor fought back, quickly murdering his own master.

When the Third War struck, Alastor decided to help the armies of Lordaeron by healing the soldiers, not with the Light, but with surgical instruments and herbal medicine. He was again instructed how to use the two. When he performed surgery on a wounded soldier, he used his Shadow magic to peer inside his patient's soul and learn about the body and mind of the various creatures of Azeroth. After the war was over Alastor indeed saved many lives and learned much about the anatomy of different races of Azeroth. This anatomical knowledge he would later use against his foes. But now, with the war over, Alastor wanders Azeroth, studying many different creatures, one day hoping to assume full control of the Shadow.
