Personality

First and foremost, Zal'rin cares about himself and his income. This isn't to say that he's heartless; he doesn't delight in cruelty or putting others down. Instead, he realizes that his job naturally delves into many moral grey areas, and focuses on keeping himself afloat. If others end up paying for it, everyone will have to accept that a job is a job. Nonetheless, there are limits to what he'll do, and he's quick to remind some potential employers that he's a bounty hunter, not an assassin.

While he attempts to approach his job with a sense of professionalism, he nonetheless has a habit of speaking in sarcastic tones, even when it isn't entirely appropriate. He can be rather trigger-happy and tends to be very reluctant to release control over his weapons or his gadgets. He's rather distrusting of others, taking a certain level of healthy paranoia with him when he goes to do his work.

While he identifies as a member of the Horde, his loyalty and willingness to work for them, especially on a fighting level, lasts only so long as he's getting paid. He'd never accept a job working for the Alliance and tends to be much more cautious when dealing with Alliance races, even unaligned. His dislike of night elves, due to the many conflicts in Kalimdor, is especially pronounced, though he can hide it if absolutely necessary.

History

Born a member of the Darkspear Tribe, Zal'rin grew up on an island, slowly learning the arts of hunting and fighting, especially archery. His was a simple and unassuming childhood. His parents still lived and he was an energetic, at times trouble-making, youth. It wasn't until the orcs arrived at their island that Zal'rin's simple life was changed. Caught up in the stream of events that led to the Darkspears fleeing from the island with the orcs to form the Horde, Zal'rin followed his people and ended up in Kalimdor.

The rest of the Third War passed uneventfully for him. It wasn't until the aftermath that Zal'rin had finished his training and was put to work. He found a living hunting down animals for food and lending his services with the bow when necessary. His life took a more interesting turn with the construction of Ratchet. He helped protect the town as it was being built, and took the opportunity to learn from the goblins a few bits of engineering.

It was also in Ratchet that he started taking up odd jobs that used his skills more directly. Hunting down specific beasts, using his hunting skills to track down run-away fugitives, and even locating missing people. There was no major revelation for him, simply a growing knowledge that he'd found something that he could make a living off of and would give him significant freedom. He decided to keep work at bounty hunting ever since.

His travels started off mostly restricted to Kalimdor, keeping to the Barrens and then doing a few jobs in Ashenvale. He quickly grew to both respect and resent the prowess of the night elves within their own home. Also in his time in Ashenvale, he tamed a spider he named "Weaver," who he trained to assist with his hunting. Building up enough money where travel became more possible, he began to also take the occasional foray into the Kingdoms. From there, he went to meet the Horde's new allies, the Forsaken and then later the blood elves, to pick up jobs for them as well. Whatever paid the bills. In his journeys, he quickly realized that with all the criminals and low-lifes out in the world, it's not easy to trust anyone. Even his own allies in the Horde weren't saints. It was best to focus on himself, and he'd expect no less from others.

He never struck it big or fulfilled any job that made him famous. He simply lives as a small-time bounty hunter, but nonetheless continues to train his skills and hopes that he'll find that one bounty that will get him set for life.
