Skills and Abilities: Zairoth is proficient in the school of affliction, favouring the less ostentatious curses than the overt devastation wrecked by conjured flames. Eschewing the school of destruction, his abilities regarding it is therefore much more basic. The background of his House provided some rudiments for his grasp of demonology, though he had never summoned anything more than an imp, and that was with the aid of his father. His aversion towards using the Fel unless absolutely necessary means that he is considerably less corrupted than most warlocks, for he has steeled himself against the temptation and could go for weeks without casting a single spell.

The dividend of having a noble for a father was that Zairoth had a succession of private tutors throughout most of his life. With an interest in history and the liberal arts, Zairoth’s education had successfully inculcated a sense of curiosity and a drive to explore. His studies have also netted him a plethora of esoteric knowledge, from literature to mathematics and to the sciences. Down the century, Zairoth had indulged himself with more than a few hobbies. He tried to paint, but the best description one can give for those is ‘avant garde’. He tried a cello, but broke the string. The organ he managed little more than a few pleasant tunes. He did find a knack and lasting interest in tinkering, however, and that had led to gnomes being one of the few races he could respect beyond his own. Goblins used to count in that small list, until a brief and eventful trip to Ratchet dispelled that notion from him forever.

Personality

Alignment: Lawful Neutral

Ever since the death of his father in the Third War, Zairoth had felt a smothering sense of sorrow that mars his actions in aged melancholy, one made all the more poignant by the conflict he has with his surviving sibling. Clinging possessively onto the last shreds of optimism that he maintained, he nonetheless struggles down a path filled with trials and tribulation with a stoic tenacity. Humble with a patience tempered through hours upon hours of sitting still and writing pages of essays, he tends to come off soft-spoken and almost meek in his countenance, though those who press him overtly will discover a steely side beneath the tender mask. He does have a roguish and mischievous side to him as well, one that surfaces whenever his solemn disposition becomes dispelled. Finally, his learning had developed within him a deep sense of empathy, or at the very least the drive to comprehend motives behind deeds.

History

Zairoth Vorimar was born into House Vorimar of Silvermoon, a reputable house that has had a history of honourable dealings and trustworthiness that ensured its stability, Zairoth was the third son of the Lord Sozaith Vorimar. He was destined by birth to aid the house, and though he was not the heir, he nonetheless held a special place in his father’s heart. A complex mixture of politicking and internal drama led to a distance forming between his father and Zairoth’s eldest brother, a distance filled conveniently by Zairoth. His childhood was a carefully-controlled environment, the atmosphere of nobility filled with studies and private tutorship. Irksome as it was, the young child came to develop great interests in the history of the world, likening it very much like the fantastical tales that he would be told just before heading to bed. This curiosity and interest nurtured by a lucky mixture of an adoring father and fascinating tutors allowed him to ease easily into the scholarly demands made during his upbringing.

The study of the arcane arts was considered an integral part of High Elven Society, having been the main reason for their exile from Kalimdor. As tradition demanded in House Vorimar, Zairoth too was made to delve into the Art, though he treaded a different path from that of his other two elder siblings. Starting back from his grandfather, House Vorimar had begun a tentative exploration into magic less socially acceptable than otherwise after the First War, arts which were considered overtly dangerous. Taught by his father personally, Zairoth came to be tutored in the rudiments of the Fel, beginning his studies more as a mean of comprehending their enemies rather than a greedy grasp for power. His other siblings, less favoured by his father and deemed more necessary to the social façade of the House, were kept in the dark regarding this less-than-savoury exploration. Even so, Zairoth’s interest in it never went far beyond a desire to understand more about the threats facing those that exploited the Arcane, his drive of curiosity revolving around the garnering of knowledge rather than the acquiring of raw power. Throughout his first century, however, the pursuit of other interests and hobbies were what occupied the majority of his time.

The coming and the passing of the First and Second Wars were of great academic interest to Zairoth, though he wisely made himself scarce from the fields of battle. House Vorimar strayed away from being too involved in the war efforts, though that was mainly at the behest of its patriarch. The disagreements poised by Zairoth’s mother, who had significant holdings damaged during the Second War, were to drive a deeper wedge between his parents. It was during this period of time, however, that the fundamentals of the darker Arts originally explored by Zairoth’s grandfather, than passed down through the line, were passed onto his siblings as well. To an extent, it was an effort by Zairoth’s father to become closer to his sons, but by all accounts it continued to be jeopardized by the polarizing conflict between the Lord and Lady Vorimar.

The Third War struck a brutal blow against the High Elves as a whole, and the heart of House Vorimar was torn out when Lord Sozaith was killed while trying to buy time for his family to flee. The fall of Quel’thalas shattered the family and smothered it in sorrow, though they managed to regroup out of necessity after Arthas’ desecration of the Sunwell. When a group of Blood Elves dispatched by Kael’thas began to teach the decimated people how to satiate their addiction through the usage of the Fel, however, House Vorimar found itself in an advantageous position. Quickly taking opportunity of this, the matriarch of the House along with its new, young patriarch established a series of business ventures supplying Silvermoon City with Fel.

During this time, much of the internal conflict that had been stirring underneath within the House surfaced with a vengeance. Without Lord Sozaith’s guiding influence that had acted as a cap on the metaphorical bottle, the infightings were impossible to squelch and the feuds of the past returned to poison the future. The gavelkind succession laws instituted during the founding of the House meant that the inheritance should be divided amongst the surviving sons of the patriarch, but the avarice of the eldest led to his own vested interest in wresting the estates of the House from his siblings. That being the crux of the House’s internal politicking; it was just a matter of time before it explodes out of control.

The spark came when the Shattered Sun Offensive reclaimed the Sunwell Plateau, purifying the Sunwell and freeing the Blood Elves from their addiction. With the diversification of its business ventures still incomplete, financial collapse loomed over the beleaguered House. Desperate to maintain his own wealth, the fledgling patriarch sought the inheritances of his brothers. It came to a head when Zairoth’s second brother died under mysterious circumstances.

Zairoth realized by then that his own life was very much in danger, and he proceeded to flee as his own mother and brother sought his life. Getting on the first boat to Kalimdor, he now seeks to forge his own path, and find his own place in the world.
