Personality

Varania is a cool headed person, content to observe a situation before acting in a way she deems appropriate. Almost always polite but prone to teasing and treating others like children that need help. She still retains some of her values from being a priestess of the light, willing to help most people, usually only asking for a small payment in return. She will deal with anyone she thinks could be of use to her.

History

Varania was born to an affluent family in Silvermoon, her mother a Magistrix so they had little to no financial problems. She began studying arcane at an early age with hopes of making her mother proud. Her training went well in her younger years before she discovered she simply didn't posses the talent to become a Magistrix like her mother. Distraught at the discovery of her weakness she continued to study diligently, hoping to overcome her lack of natural talent. When she was a little over a hundred years old her mother gave birth to another daughter, and just like her, the new sister started studying the arcane at an early age. Her sister's natural talent shined bright as Varania was quickly surpassed in skill. Furious with embarrassment she stopped studying the arcane and turned her attention to alchemy, a trade she had previously only considered a hobby. She poured all her attention into her new path and largely ignored almost everything else, content to become a great alchemist.

Years after her shift of focus, having become a great alchemist in her own right, she discovered another route to help her people. She once again moved her studies, this time to the holy light, eventually entering the church and becoming a priestess. Her alchemical knowledge combined with her ability to wield the light made her a potent healer.

Through the second war Varania supported her homeland's troops from the sidelines. In time the war passed and she continued helping all those she could with her abilities as a priestess and alchemist. She fought within the walls of Silvermoon when the Scourge invasion came, fighting off undead and healing the injured where she could. During the immediate aftermath of the invasion she discovered all her family except her younger sister had been killed. She offered her healing hands and potions to any survivors she could find, healing until she was exhausted, handing out potions as she rested. When the withdrawals from the loss of the Sunwell set in she searched for some way to ease the pain.

The word of Kael'thas eventually returned on the lips of the pilgrims, teaching those who stayed behind in their broken city how to use fel energy. She was reluctant, but gave in to ease the pain of the addiction. Tapping into the fel cleared her mind of the plaguing cloudiness of a broken addiction, and she saw how the fel was breaking those of weaker wills around her. Varania began searching for an alternative to the corrupting touch of the fel. She began pouring over tomes, tapping into the power of the shadows, her path as a priestess veering sharply from the light and delving into the depths of shadow magic. While still a priestess she started to lean away from the light more and more, the shadows enveloping her being, charging her with a power she had not yet known.

After the Sunwell's restoration she never bothered with abandoning the shadow, fully embracing it and the power it gave her, quite content without going back to the ways of the light. Though she has only delved into shadow magic for a fairly short period of time she still seeks to help her people, though she no longer does it by healing the harm visited upon them, but by visiting harm upon those who would.
