Personality

Toodlem is rather quiet individual to start, taking time to warm up to new people. Despite the initial shyness and subsequent stammering, Toodlem is quite friendly and even bubbly underneath. She will, however, revert to her shy disposition if there's a large enough crowd or more than a few strangers within ear-shot. A small lack of confidence and a slant to a more scholarly role has lead her to be more non-violent. It is however possible to rile her into a good boil with some dedication and she has been known to fully enjoy hunting Troggs and other nasty creatures. Toodlem is young yet, As such, she is naive to some extent, vastly curious, and energetic.

A fast learner, but often forgetful. To battle this Toodlem has developed an odd habit of taking notes.. On Just about everything. It's not uncommon for her to tail-off while speaking, ramble, or forget a word she wishes to use. It's simply a side effect of over thinking and binge studying. The results of which are often odd word placements and even use of words she made up herself when no existing word (She can remember) could suffice. Still, She tends to get her meaning across, although with some difficulty at times. Like most Gnomes, her mind is always working. Multitasking even.

Her perchance to question, Keep an open mind, and stick to neutrality has sometimes caused her to rebel against the social norms. She cares little for politics and in-fighting, some racial expectations, and vanity, and loathes arrogance and bigotry. She finds honesty a true sign of maturity and the first step to self improvement, and adores a good sense of humor. Not one to be rushed, Toodlem enjoys taking her sweet time. Preferring to walk, not run, and delights in taking the scenic routes. Letting her whims (Equal parts curiosity and lack of direction) guide her, Toodlem likes to wander, meander, and generally get lost in hopes of finding something interesting. If it’s in any way mysterious, Toodlem is going to want to discover it’s secrets.

History

The second child of Ezick and Teetum Sparknode, Toodlem was born in Gnomeregan during the relatively peaceful times after it's completion. A happy child, Toodlem spent her early childhood being rambunctious and care-free. She was introduced to tinkering and magic at a young age, As her father, Ezick, was both mage and miner. He taught Toodlem a fair amount, though his intention was mainly to get a giggle out of her with his magery, or simply to lull her with a Failed gadget to play with.

By the age of 10 Toodlem had begun attempting to mimic her father, and showed the first signs of magic herself. She was limited, then, to only being able to conjure up a series of minute wisps of smoke, but the achievement pleased her parents. At the age of 15, The Orcs invaded Khaz Modan, and the second war had begun. Her father left to join the battle and never returned. Toodlem still carries a bloodstone from her collection of gems her father gave her each night after his day of mining and it is the most prized of her possessions.

Toodlem's older brother, Elum, inherited the tiny oil refinery. It was a small business, not too lucrative, but it served to lubricate a tiny portion of the machines and gadgets of Gnomeregan and allowed the family to buy what was needed. Some years had passed, Elum got engaged, and life attempted to return to normal. Toodlem occupied herself with her studies in the many learning halls, Practicing making something more fearsome than a puff of smoke and a little flame, and Mining (Or digging as she called it). She also helped Elum run the small shop.

There she made use of tinkering.. Or at least the tightening of bolts and the proper way to feed the fire in a boiler without burning one of eight fingers in the process. When Toodlem was deemed old enough to, she began to make frequent visits to Ironforge. Mainly to nose around in the Hall of explorers or pick up something her mother wanted for dinner. While visiting such a shop on one such foray into the Dwarven city, the clerk let loose a piece of troubling news. The Burning legion and the battle for Lordaeron. She once read one book about the demonic army's ambitions to tear apart creation, but she thought this was an exaggeration, the authors way of embellishing the history. The idea that this was not so was shocking to her.

War potentially meant saying goodbye to Elum, who was duty bound to fight in any battles Gnomeregan sent him to, though he was no guard. He was a Warrior and of age. Toodlem was resolved to know more and she read what she could find about history, trying to find the connections she had missed. It was during this time the Troggs came and viciously invaded. The Gnomes that could manage tried killing the Troggs off, her brother Elum among them. Even Toodlem and her mother, Teetum, joined in before it was over. Toodlem with her fire balls and her mother with her old Arch light spanner. The Troggs never seemed to quit, though, and things were getting worse. The Third war had already started against the Legion, but The Gnomes troops stayed out of it to battle the Troggs. The Troggs where everywhere by this point, and many Gnomes had already died.

Soon a plan had come about from the high tinker’s to use a large bomb to rid the city of the Troggs, and the prep work began. Toodlem didn't get to see much of her brother Elum, then, but he tried to be reassuring in the few times she did. When the bomb was set, some remaining Gnomes stayed to wait it out inside behind their thick metal doors. Locked for safety. The Sparknodes where no different, though Elum chose to stay with his fiancé, Aimili. When the bomb exploded there was the loud, rumble that was instantly jarring, deafening. Things fell off their bolts on walls and danced off tables. Then the fallout came, seeping in from the vents..The air was quickly becoming poisonous, Smokey, and it hurt to breathe. It made one's eyes burn and water hopelessly.

Toodlem was confused and only managed to cover her mouth with her scarf. In panic she reached out into the smoky void where she last seen her mother standing and felt the flesh of her arm. Over the loud ringing in her ears, she heard her mother coughing. That was all Toodlem needed to hear and Toodlem went running, dragging her mother behind her. Toodlem used only memory and fear to navigate, but it sufficed in getting her to the small service tunnel panel. There they made their escape up ladders and cramped corridors. They emerged finally into the blinding of sun on snow and as eyes adjusted; more Troggs. It was Teetum who had begun dragging Toodlem by the arm, then, Easily avoiding the Troggs who had not yet spotted them. Teetum lead them into the woods where they followed the road north east from some distance.

They arrived in Ironforge soon after where they learned of the true scope of Thermaplugg's betrayal. Elum and Aimili never showed and were presumed to have died of radiation poisoning. Toodlem was 29 when she last saw him. Toodlem stayed with her mother in Ironforge where she returned to her note taking, studying, and training. She made her first invention of a Wobblerbit at the age of 36 from old schematics she retained and improved on from her childhood in Gnomeregan. The device was semi-self-sustaining. Given the first nudge; it’s 'wobble' charged two springs. one kept it moving for a time, where as the other could be implemented into powering or triggering other mechanisms that incorporated it. It was Toodlem's first achievement in engineering and earned her the last name.
