Appearance

Therai is rather slender, almost underweight. She has pale-tinted blue skin. Her hair is a dark, almost black shade of blue, cut short at the shoulder and tied in a short ponytail at the back. She is almost always seen wearing a robe in shades of grey and muted blue, often also with a mantle and a hood. More recently, she sometimes instead wears an intricate dark and purple robe with a black cloth mask. She stands up straight, with good posture. She possesses a metal staff with a dark red crystal on its head. Much less commonly seen, she also has a set of arcanite claws.

Personality

To a person that barely knows her, Therai can seem devoid of personality. She rarely shows any expression, whether in her voice or on her face. Her voice is monotonous and drawling; her face is blank. She hardly ever shows a reaction beyond indifference towards anything but the most extreme of situations. People who can get to know her, however, find that she is a sad individual. She never smiles. She doesn't laugh at jokes, though she usually understands that they are humorous in nature. She is very dark, though she can hardly be called angsty, and she is very unsettling at times.

History

Therai was not born long before the Sundering, and the events of her childhood, being surrounded by fighting demons, Highborne and Kaldorei, affected her quite greatly. She was surrounded by hate and sadness, and while she wasn't affected by it immediately, it came to be a large factor in her life as she grew older, whether she realized where it stemmed from or not.

She grew up as a priestess, opting for a more spiritual role as opposed to a warrior role among the Sentinels. She was a fairly devout practitioner of Elune's creed for quite a long time, almost unchanging in her ways for thousands of years. Among night elves, she was a somewhat more poignant member of society, but it by no means crippled her in day-to-day life.

Therai began to undergo some changes in her fundamental personality, however. She became more sobering and distant, even from her peers, and those that still saw her regularly noticed the beginnings of changes in the magic that she cast. Instead of the brilliant white energy associated with Elune, it began to take upon a darker mood, both in form and in nature. Some spells remained fundamentally unchanged, mostly those regarding healing and the betterment of others. Spells intended to smite or to banish, however, were significantly darker. Dark clouds took the place of shining moon energy, and spells that should have merely incapacitated or resulted in a clean wound caused immense, prolonged pain and suffering.

The Sentinels and some other priestesses of Elune looked into this, and discovered that Therai had been studying tomes of Shadow magic. How they had come into her possession, none of them could say. The investigators scoured libraries throughout the settlement, but despite their best efforts, they could not find any conclusive evidence as to where they may have come from. The mere possession of Shadow tomes was enough, though. Despites Therai's continued pleas for forgiveness and her claims that she had never actually practiced any of the rituals or devices in the tomes, her rank within the clergy was removed and she was banished from Kaldorei settlements. The Sentinels tried to prevent her from bringing her tomes, but when they went to remove them from her former residence, they were nowhere to be found. Therai had already taken them away through some means other than on her person.

Therai spent a very long time in isolation, studying her Shadow codices. With no need to interact with anyone, she became very distant. For a very long time, she had no social interaction with others, with only her tomes to keep her company. As she grew in skill, however, she came into contact with an entity that lived within the Shadow Plane that called itself Siral. Eventually, she managed to summon it and bind it to herself in a ritual that would provide a spiritual link between the two of them, at the cost of sharing part of her soul.

Through the Third War, Therai simply moved to places where the Legion and the Sentinels were not, bringing Siral with her wherever she went. When the night elves were formally inducted into the Alliance, however, Therai saw this as an opportunity to move somewhere where she would not be persecuted. Night elves that encountered her outside of Ashenvale had no reason to suspect that she had a black mark. Thus, she stayed in Stormwind, still mostly in isolation, but with some small social interaction with other people for the first time in millenia. She found it hard to associate with others for long periods of time, but she tried nonetheless.

Skills and Abilities

As per a powerful shadow priest.

She has a familiar, a shadowbeast known as Siral. Unlike most shadowfiends, Siral is permanently summoned from the Shadow Plane, as a warlock's demon may be. Siral is more powerful than the ingame shadowfiend, being somewhat more durable, faster, intelligent and highly cunning, though it is susceptible to Light-based attacks. Destroying it forces it back into the Shadow Plane until Therai can summon it again, in addition to causing a certain degree of physical and psychological pain to her.
