Personality

Alignment: Neutral Good

Rigley is a kind person, and a bit of a doormat. Though he is friendly and somewhat outgoing in nature he can be a bit timid when encountering people outside of his typical comfort zone, and usually requires some warming up to to strangers before he is truly at ease around them. While typically genuinely good to others he can be a bit childish at times, particularly when it comes to matters of ownership or competition. He can be a bit selfish, but generally can correct himself quickly.

He has an exceptionally mild temperament, and tends to be well-enough mannered (commonly referring to others as miss, or mister), though a few things can set him off. He also has certain bouts comparable to manic-depression, though these swings tend to happen only when he's been put under significant pressure.

History

Rigley was born the middle child of Eleanor and Emmanuel Darrson, of Darrowshire. A local baker and a devout paladin respectively, Rigley was brought up with a fairly normal life. Though he had an intellectual and curiosity-driven mind befitting of a mage he would always chase after his father's heels when he returned from patrol, and was even being given lessons in swordplay as if he was meant to be taken under his father's wing with the Silver Hand someday. However, once the first sightings of the scourge came his father grew increasingly absent.

In the meantime Rigley busied himself with reading, particularly taking interest in the tales of the gnomes and dwarves of Dun Morogh, and their technological marvels. By the age of fifteen he was starting to experiment with the few manuals he could buy, usually to fairly poor levels of success.

Then, the scourge came. While Darrowshire was not the first town struck, word spread quickly. Having heard no word from his father since he departed alongside the prince for Northrend, Rigley hoped to see him returning. After the destruction of Stratholme and the continued threat of the undead though, his family feared the worst. They made to leave Darrowshire before the scourge could strike, joining others on the journey to Stormwind. Between the three siblings, Rigley and Desmond (the youngest of the trio) embarked upon the journey with their mother. Though it was a long travel to Stormwind, the two boys were able to manage well enough. Their mother, however, did not. She grew ill during the travel, managing to reach the safety of Northshire Abbey along with her sons before she became bedridden.

The two brothers remained alongside their mother through her illness, usually taking up jobs about Elwynn in an effort to provide for themselves and Eleanor. Eventually though she passed away, and from there Rigley and his younger brother parted ways. Rigley left for Ironforge, deciding to take up studies alongside the gnomes and dwarves. He studied in the field of aeronautics, dreaming of making contrails in the skies like the other pilots he had observed from the Ironforge Airport. He even managed to study directly within Gnomeregan itself for a year, before taking up a post in Ironforge with a colleague in order to have their own workspace. Though brief, Rigley found most of his enjoyment in these years, and had believed himself to have found his true place and passion within the world.

When news of the fall of Gnomeregan came, Rigley assisted in the evacuation effort alongside other volunteers from Ironforge. Ultimately, of course, there was little to be done to save the city. During the evacuation however he did gain an injury, finding himself briefly exposed to the toxins before being extracted by his fellow volunteers. As a result he suffered some damage, particularly culminating in a form of photosensitivity. Regardless he had no regrets in aiding in the effort, as Ironforge and Gnomeregan had swiftly become the closest home he could identify with since his arrival from Darrowshire.

He remained in Ironforge after the incident, continuing his mechanical driven pursuits alongside his colleagues. In particular was his now long-standing partner, Aeria Fizzlebolt. The gnome would frequently drag him into tests of her equipment, particularly an alchemical rebreather turned complete diving suit that he had aided in a few drafts of. In time he found his pursuits in aeronautics sidetracked somewhat, to the point where he had largely abandoned the field after his completion of a standard flying machine. Instead he began to go on expeditions to study the marine life with his companion, sometimes for months at a time before returning to civilization.

This spanned years of time, as the scourge continued to ravage Lordaeron and the elves left in exile to Outland. By the time of the Burning Crusade he took an expedition meant to last two months, involving a fairly standard charting and observation of a series of isles. Only a month later he returned, alone and wounded in Stormwind Harbor. He was put into the care of the healers within the city, barely able to speak for weeks into his recovery despite what seemed to be recovering injuries. Though he was discharged quite a few were questioning of his mental stability.

Rigley returned to Ironforge, becoming a reclusive figure for some time. He spent most of his time redrafting and improving his hazard suit, though he shared these new revisions with no one within the scientific community he had been a part of previously. Most simply left him alone, since it was made fairly apparent that that was his own preference. He found himself stumbling into odd jobs in order to make ends meet, at a time serving a fairly brief stint within the Stormwind navy before being discharged for reasons of mental health. Eventually he found employ within the Explorer's League, serving as a cartographer (particularly sea charts), allowing him to finance his work in engineering for use on the field.

Several years after his return, Rigley has slowly become less withdrawn from society and has become at least infrequent about more social settings, commonly lingering around the taverns of Booty Bay or the like when making excursions from his home to collect supplies for his projects. Most who knew him prior still consider him changed; and while he has tried to reintegrate himself with the world around him, he has found that a difficult task. At present he is still taking sparse work from the Explorer's League, but is seeing less and less opportunities in his particular field, prompting more trips from Ironforge in search of other possible avenues of employment.

Skills and Abilities

Most of Rigley's abilities span from his knowledge and utilization of technology, typically coming from his gadgets built into his suit. Rigley isn't learned in any particular form of swordplay, and prefers to bash things with a blunt weapon if it comes down to using improvised weaponry. Without his gadgets, he's really not a great combatant and would likely flee if the option is presented.

-Grand-Master Engineer: Rigley is a qualified Grand-Master Engineer, and has good standing with the Mechanical Engineering Guild, Associated. He is capable of performing repairs to most machinery, though specifically is skilled with personal devices.

-Jack-of-Trades: Master of none. Being an engineer Rigley can commonly devise a -way- out of a given situation. It's not the best way, and it's probability of success is likely dubious, but it's a way.

-Shooter: Rigley is more skilled with ranged weaponry (namely guns) over melee weaponry. He prefers to wield a steam-pistol, though he commonly stocks various grenades and other trinkets for situational uses.

-Survivability: Rigley's suit is built around survivability. Incorporating several redrawn schemata over the years, the suit is able to maintain a stable temperature, supply clean air through an elemental core-based engine, and administer a salve of healing tonic when injuries grow too severe. It is largely leather and chain based as well, to allow for relatively free movement.

-Way of the Crab: Much like a crab becomes accustomed to its shell, Rigley has learned to adapt to the weight of his weighty diving suit over time. Because of this he can move naturally within his suit, and perform most physical tasks with the same amount of exertion. Because of this his ability for lifting could be compared to the standard warrior, though he lacks the martial training associated with that role.
