Oliver Abbing suffers from pyromania, the impulsive need to start fires. His behavior focuses around this need; he is completely obsessed with fire and thinks of little else.

When asked about this, he states, "When I am near an open flame, all worldly stresses slip away. An abnormal calm takes hold of me as I float in a world of absolute bliss. Is that wrong? Of course not."

When not in this flame-produced state, he lacks this calm. He is irritable and easy to anger. He becomes stressed and can be difficult to mellow. Casting aside his obsessions, Oliver is a scholar. He enjoys reading and writing about the Arcane and its usage. Most of his writings pertain to evocation and enchantment. His other interests include astronomy and alchemy.

History

Oliver Abbing was born into a middle class family on the shores of Hillsbrad. He lived with his mother Lucile and his father Daniel who owned an alchemy shop in Southshore. Oliver was a quiet boy who would much rather settle down with a good book like 'The Gnome and the Flytrap' than play fighting with the other boys in his neighborhood. He spent quite a bit of time over the years reading and became interested in the Arcane early in his childhood. Upon telling his parents of his interests, Lucile and Daniel decided to scrape together a few extra silver to hire a local mage to teach Oliver Arcane theory. Not long into Oliver's lessons, the alchemy shop began to lose money, and Daniel began to drink. There were a few instances of Oliver being awoken by his father hollering at his mother while in a drunken rage late in the night. Distraught over his father's verbal abuse towards his mother, Oliver began performing poorly in his lessons. His tutor suspected something was off and asked the young boy about it. After Oliver told his story, Magus Valian confronted the boy's parents. They assured him that they have dealt with the problem and that there was nothing for the old magus to be concerned about. That night when Oliver returned home after a late study session, he was beaten by his drunk father for speaking of family business. That night was the first of many beatings Oliver received as the family business went downhill.

Around the age of eight, Oliver walked in on one of his tutor's other lessons, where he was demonstrating pyromancing. The magus was lashing out at a stuffed dummy with a thin, almost whip-like tendril of flame. He watched in absolute fascination as the flames struck and began to consume the dummy. Watched as black smoke rose into the air as the inferno grew in size. He felt.. euphoric. This was the day that his pyromania settled in.

Little Oliver began to become obsessed by the flames he saw in his everyday life. He would insist upon keeping a lit candle in his room as he slept every night. As he grew, his obsession grew with him. He began to grow angry and temperamental when he was without his fiery companion. This made his tutor hesitant to continue his studies. After a while, he told Oliver that he should head to a small town to the east where a colleague of his lived to continue his training. At the age of eighteen, Oliver took Magus Valian's advice and packed his things. He said goodbye to his mother before he left, not bothering to even glance at his father on his way out. Oliver spent many years in this village, studying under a new magus. He excelled quickly and took evocation and enchantment on as his specialties. He never stopped sleeping with a candle and, in fact, escalated to setting immense bonfires out in the woods.

Finally, at the age of twenty-five, Oliver left the town he had called home for the past ten years to venture to the magical city of Dalaran. He hoped to make it his new home and further his education even more. He admitted himself into the University of Dalaran and continued his studies. At the age of thirty-two Oliver was killed when the Burning Legion assaulted Dalaran and was, ironically, burned alive by one of the warlocks.

He was reborn as a forsaken afterwards and continued his Arcane studies. He settled down in Tirisfal and began to study astronomy and alchemy as well. His pyromania had lessened considerably through his death, but he still felt it's nagging daily.

After settling in to his home and thriving in the Undercity's magical community, Oliver decided he wanted to see the world. He had seen so little of it in his years that he felt cheated somehow. So, he set off. He made a living as he went as an enchanter-for-hire, hopping from place to place. The corpse didn't settle in any one place long, so he went as far as the Wetlands in months and made his way back, taking a different route than before. Several months and hundreds of miles later, Oliver Abbing was back in Tirisfal, aiding the Dark Lady and his fellow forsaken. This is where he remains today.
