Personality

At the first glance, Nick is a simple, dirty beggar with a poor grasp of the common language. This is an image he's content with, and he uses it often. Behind this "mask", however, he's a bit of a brighter man, rather pouring ale on himself and acting drunk, than actually drinking. He lies, dresses up and acts, tricking people with his various personalities, in order to get his hands on their valuables. He may pick pockets, openly mug people in alleys, or break into houses; Whatever works best at any given time. While his language is often simple, crude and in general peasant-ish, he is capable of speaking more fluently, in order to disguise himself as more of an upper-class citizen.

When in the guise of Robert Farwood(his favorite role), he assumes the outfit, personality and language of a lesser landlord from Redridge. His other "personality", Pete, is a rambling drunkard, smelling, hairy and heavily disoriented. Either of these charades are applied whenever he needs it, in order to get access to other people's belongings.

While Nick is loyal to his guild, this is purely out of benefit. His only priority in life is his own well-being and fortune, and if it works for his benefit, he will not hesitate to betray them, or any other allies he has. Betrayal often comes at a much higher price than it's reward, however, and he will not do it, except for extreme cases. He may also lie, steal from and hurt his own allies, but only if there is little or no risk of being caught.

History

Nick was raised as the oldest son of a farmer in Westfall. Most of his life went to tending to animals, working in the field, or helping raise his younger siblings. A simple life, without any worries beyond droughts and sick animals, and no real ambitions beyond growing old.

Such happy little bubbles are fragile, however, and Nick found his bubble burst when raiders made the farm their target. Unstoppable, they killed and stole the animals for themselves, and raided the house of any valuables. As a parting gift, they set the harvest ablaze, and left. Nick was, of course, angry at these bandits, for taking his belongings, and ruining his work... But unlike his family, he could feel no hatred. These men had taken what they wanted, by force, and nobody could stop them. All that Nick could feel... Was envy.

Follow this event, Nick resumed his work, trying to repair the farm, although he no longer had the same satisfaction he had before. The harvest did not please him, and when the cow gave birth, he felt no happiness at the calves. He wanted to be out there, to ride across the kingdom, taking what he could. After all, all that he could take without being stopped, was rightfully his, was it not?

Shortly after, word spread of a bandit party, traveling across the farmlands, raiding and kill where they went. After figuring out where they were heading, Nick packed his things, and in the dark of night, left his farm, seeking out these bandits. Once he reached them, he was captured, stripped of his belongings, but allowed to speak. He spoke his desire, to be among them, to do what they did. They needed the numbers, and he was considered harmless, so they agreed.

For a couple of years, he traveled with them, learning their ways. He learned to lie, to make himself seem like something he was not. He learned to ride, he learned their crude fighting techniques. He learned their cruelty, and how to pick out targets. Following a rather successful raid on a trade caravan, Nick and his companions were celebrating in their camp. Ale, food, loud singing, minimal guarding. They found their celebration to be short, as another, significantly more powerful band of raiders had gotten word of their fortune, and wanted it for themselves. Drunk and unarmed, the band was scattered, running into the woods to save themselves. Most were slain, and as far as Nick knew, the survivors did not regroup.

As the woods of the Stormwind kingdom were not safe for a lone bandit, Nick traveled to the city. He adjusted to life within the walls, making a living by begging, picking pockets, mugging and even burglary. He did this, by himself, until very recently, when he was approached by the Thieves Guild. Figuring that larger operations, with more people could only be more profitable, he agreed, and he works with them now.

When approached about his story, Nick has various explanations. To strangers, he will claim to be a refugee from Westfall, after his farm was burned by bandits. To those who know what he is(mainly, the thieves guild), he will admit to being a former bandit, but out of shame, he will deny having been defeated by other bandits, and tell stories of a trade caravan protected by a small army of mercenaries. Only those he really trust will be allowed to hear his true story.
