Appearance

Painfully conscious of how thin she is, the necromancer chooses flowing robes and clothes wherever possible, avoiding things such as tight pants and tops religiously. Nessari, despite wearing dark colors befitting her position, has a flair for the gold and purple of Draenei culture and will incorporate the colors into her outfits whenever possible.

When outside or in well-lit locations she prefers to cover her head with either a black hat or cowl. It is not out of a desire for secrecy or an affectation; her face burns easily.

Abilities

Nessari is an accomplished Necromancer and practitioner of Death Magic. Though capable of fighting with sword and dagger, her real strength comes in the use of magic, with weapons such as daggers, swords and staves used only to either amplify her spells or as a last resort.

Her Necromancy is based on her training on Draenor, not Azeroth. As such, she is more skilled in spirit communication and the resurrection of the dead than spells that draw on dark energy to corrupt or curse. She has since attempted to offset the deficiency by learning from Azeroth Necromancers, though she finds these affliction-based magic to be unsavory and will rarely use it.

Personality

Alignment: Chaotic Good

Nessari is a woman conflicted. At heart she is a kind person with a passionate nature, her only desire being to see peace and happiness in those she meets. Her prolonged exposure to the void energy of the Auchenai Crypts, however, has perverted the woman’s mind and driven her towards an obsession with death. It is not a zealous or fetishized obsession, however; she simply focuses less on the living (And such on the present and future) and more on the dead and the past, preferring to spend her time in places of death and remembrance.

This somber bent has translated into a sobering of her warm personality. She still tries to conjure up echoes of her warmer, more matronly path, but her years of corruption and the cold desolation of death has dulled her vibrancy. She is prone to long bouts of silence and self-reflection. Though she is rarely completely happy, she is also rarely completely sad, ending with her having a more neutral, or balanced, personality.

Despite this new, corruptive path, Nessari is still a Draenei at heart with a clear perception of right and wrong. She has combined her matronly nature, her obsession with death and her desire to help into a single goal: The stewardship and protection of the dead, as well as putting undead or trapped souls to rest.

History

Born on Oshu’gun during the Draenei Exodus, Nessari was raised and educated by dotting parents to follow in their footsteps as a priestess. For centuries she raised and instructed children aboard the ship on faith and religion, providing succor to the tired and infirm. After a time the priestess took a mate and, after years of trying, eventually succeeded in giving birth to a son.

Despite the difficulties of the draenei’s exodus, the family remained relatively safe and comfortable for the duration. Growing restless with her religious instructions, the settling of the Draenei on Draenor offered Nessari a chance to change her faith. Forsaking her schoolroom instructions she settled with her family near Auchindoun to help tend the crypts, joining the ranks of the priesthood there who helped calm the spirits of the dead. It was there that she began to dabble in the arts of death magic, using the spells and lessons learned from the kindly priests to ensure the fallen could slumber in peace.

Begun as a way to absorb her remaining years, her time in the crypt would gradually become the woman’s undoing. Like the other peaceful tenders of the crypt, Nessari began to slowly succumb to the corruption the Naaru D’ore. Over the years Nessari began to spend more and more time in the crypts of the Auchenai. Less and less time was spent with her husband and son, the latter having grown into a strong paladin and wielder of the Light. The corruption of the ‘dead’ naaru was warping the once kind and pleasant woman’s mind, hardening her thoughts and pleasant demeanor. She sank even further into the study of death magic, her time now completely absorbed in tending to the dead.

When the Shadow Council infiltrated the city of the dead Nessari was living almost exclusively within the crypt with the rest of the grave tenders. Her family had left her to live in Shattrath. During the explosion Nessari was forced away from the crypt and fled into the Terokkar forest with other survivors. She along with the other remnants hid out in the dark forest and wastes around it, waiting and bidding their time. It was during this seclusion that the orcs fought their way to Shattrath and laid siege to the Draenei’s home.

During the destruction of Draenor, Nessari, along with the other corrupted Draenei, returned to the Auchenai Crypts and wrested it from the enemies who had taken it from them. Under the command of Exarch Maladaar the once peaceful draenei, now bitter and twisted by the shadowy corruption and the massacre of their people, began to move towards the darker arts to defend themselves. Nessari, believing all of her race dead or corrupted, sank into despair. In this state she gladly accepted the new path and gave herself up to the dark influence of the Exarch, abandoning the Naaru and indulging in death magic completely, perverting her command over the faith into Necromancy.

By the time the Dark Portal opened and Draenei were once again seen on Draenor, Nessari was an accomplished Necromancer and loyal member of the Auchenai. The woman had absorbed herself completely into the pursuit of Necromancy and was studying the odd brand of Shadow that was the hallmark of the Auchenai Necromancers. The woman had even begun to shifter her focus away from faith and towards Arcane, the magic bolstering her studies of death.

The knowledge that other Draenei had survived lifted the woman's spirits and re-kindled her long-dormant hope. Seeing the madness that had consumed the Auchenai in the pursuit of survival, the Necromancer chose to leave the demon-led sect. Free of the poisonous influences of her fellow Auchenai draenei and the void corruption of the Naaru’s corpse, Nessari slowly began to reclaim herself and her mind.

The conflict began to form in the woman. Though she was free of the corruption her mind was still irrevocably changed. She desired to do good but she was still tainted, her body and mind bent towards Shadow and Necromancy. In this state she remained in hiding, fearful of going into Shattrath and exposing herself as one of the Draenei's hated enemies. Torn and broken she remained for much of the time in seclusion, never daring to leave the safety of the hut she had erected in the depth of the forest.

Years later, while traveling through the forest searching for food, the woman came across a dieing human. Despite her efforts the warrior perished and his spirit rose, terrified and restless. Nowhere capable of resurrecting the man herself the woman simply calmed his spirit and sent it off, content in the knowledge that she had returned to doing what she had once.

Despite this sobering first encounter, Nessari quickly realized that her powers could still be used for more than just her own benefit. Her only limitation was her own knowledge of death magic and Necromancy. Then and there she dedicated herself towards learning how to preserve of life through death.

Emboldened, the Necromancer emerged from the woods and fled from Outlands, moving down and to the new world of Azeroth. It was there that she learned of the existence of the Scourge and its use of Necromancy. Disgusted by the selfish use of the art, Nessari journeyed to Northrend in an effort to combat the Scourge. There the woman, who had only known the company of poisonous zealots, was accepted into the ranks of the Alliance. Slow to acclimate and learning quickly the need to hide her powers, the woman remained aloof for much of her time in the Frozen North. Instead of fighting she served as a mage's apprentice, aiding the man in collecting herbs and regents. During her years of service she studied beneath him, completing her lessons in Arcane and becoming an accomplished Mage. In private she began to blend the two arts, forsaking the soul magic of her upbringing in favor of the more practical Necromancy of a Mage.

After the fall of the Lich King the Necromancer, now accustomed to the ways of this new world, returned to the Eastern Kingdom. Throughout the years between the death of her foe and the coming of the Cataclysm, Nessari spent much of the time in the Plaguelands, helping to find lost souls and sending them to rest.

After the coming of Deathwing, Nessari has returned to traveling, trying to do more good in a world filled with the dead and dieing.
