Personality

Lyste is highly loyal to the Forsaken, her love for her undead brethren surpassed by only a few. She sees Horde Death Knights as any other undead, nothing special for being raised from the dead differently. Alliance Death Knights to her are just scum that joined the Alliance instead of their undead brethren. Her bird, Feathers, receives Lyste’s undying love. It is hard to insult Lyste. Lyste can’t stand a traitor or someone aiding the Alliance, especially not an undead. She sees the living members of the Horde as a necessary evil to allow Forsaken progress. Her mind always on her missions, no matter the death toll.

History

Lyste was born with parents unknown. Her mother couldn’t take care of her and put her to be found by a farmer’s family. The family consisted of four people, a mother, a father and two sons. As Lyste was only a foundling and the youngest, her foster parents didn’t care much for her. Her foster family never kept it hidden she wasn’t born as their actual child. Most of her life she spent working on the farm, working off her feeling of abandonment by her foster parents on the farm.

When she was twelve, she found a group of humans with bows, swords and birds, practicing. Lyste became highly interested. She asked them if she could shoot and practice with a sword. After a bit of talking they reluctantly accepted and allowed her to practice with the bow and a wooden training sword. Her ways with the blade and bow continued for years. One of the men gave her a dagger to practice with, as a promise she wouldn’t show her parents. Lyste agreed with this and returned home. During one of her training sessions, Lyste became interested in one of the birds; the bird took an interest in her too. Her mentors allowed her to train with the bird. The two looked like a great combination and, in exchange for some payment; she was allowed to keep the bird. She named the bird Feathers.

When Lyste became twenty-two, the Scourge came. Lyste was working on the field, the dagger hidden in her pants. She lost contact with her ‘brother’ only to find him again with a loud scream “Walking corpses!”. Lyste rushed towards the location of the scream, calling for her bird. When she found her ‘brother’, Lyste saw him being mauled by a ghoul. Lyste was frozen to the ground, unable to move at all. Feathers landed on her shoulder, looking at the happening in front of the two. Her foster brother screamed for help until the flame of life was snuffed out from him. Lyste turned and ran away only to be tackled by another ghoul. The last thing she felt was the ghoul ripping open her stomach and feasting on her organs, the pain felt as if she was tortured for a hundred years. Lyste couldn’t help but scream as the flame of life was snuffed out.

Her rest was not long as she was pulled back from the afterlife to serve the Scourge, along her bird. She hated every moment of her service, killing people and watching her bird spread the plague. When the Lich King’s grasp on her weakened, she freed herself from the Scourge, her mind now again her own. The first thing she did was find her bird and free him as well. After finding and freeing her bird, they became a team again and joined Sylvanas and the Forsaken.

Lyste saw Sylvanas’ skill and prowess with the bow and the Shadow for herself, impressed and weak Lyste became highly interested in Sylvanas’ ways. Lyste wasn’t the first to join the ranks of the Dark Rangers; she remained a foot soldier for some time. After she learned of more Dark Rangers showing up, she saw her chance to become more than just a foot soldier. Her mind now set on becoming a Dark Ranger. It took Lyste a few months to find a mentor willing and capable to teach her. Her new found mentor sent Lyste out to hunt a group of Undead who supposedly allied themselves with a group of humans. Lyste agreed and went on her hunt, her mind thinking on the approach and her bird scouring the skies to search the Undead and there supposedly human allies.

It wasn’t long until the Undead were found in cages, humans patrolling around the cages. Lyste observed the group for a few moments, finding the right course of approach. She took out her bow and fired a shot at one of the unsuspecting humans. The arrow pierced his throat, leaving him to die in his own blood. The rest of the humans were now aware they were being stalked. Lyste stalked around the camp, using what shadows she had available to cover her in the dark forests. She shot more humans, one at a time. Knowing she was vulnerable out in the open without back so she changed her location after each shot.

When the one human who looked like their leader was left, Lyste revealed herself, shooting his left leg then his right leg. Despite being unable to run with a Forsaken in front of him, the human continued rambling on. Lyste allowed him to have his delusional speech until she got tired of it. She ended his life with an arrow between the eyes. She remembered the location with the corpses and the captured Undead, leaving them in their cages. She returned to her mentor and spoke of captured Undead, she was not aware whether or not they were traitors. Her mentor sent a group of Forsaken to the location. They determined the men were just unlucky Forsaken scouts. Her first task was deemed a success.

Her real training only just started, her mind was on her training to become a Dark Ranger. After a few years of training, she became highly skilled with bow. Lyste’s mentor taught her how to use the Shadow and minor necromantic powers to her advantage. Upon mastering both bow and Shadow, Lyste was taught of the prices she would have to pay for her new profession. She was taught to avoid the living and the Scourge where possible. Once she reached the end of her training, her mentor told Lyste to hunt and destroy a commander of the Scarlet Crusade. Again Lyste didn’t hesitate and set out to the hunt.

She found her target, again with the aid of Feathers. Lyste found her target in a small Scarlet Crusade outpost, a lot of humans patrolling the surrounding areas. Lyste used the same tactics as before, shoot one human, retreat to the Shadow and repeat. She kept up this tactic until the last visible human was dead. She entered the camp itself and found the commander, without hesitation and with a single arrow, she finished the commander and returned to her mentor once more. Lyste received a new bow and the official title of Dark Ranger.

Lyste finished her training just in time for the march on Gilneas to begin. She was to take a small team into Gilneas under the cover of darkness and chaos to assassinate a Gilnean commander. Lyste and her team found a way to sneak into the city without getting spotted. Upon entering the city, her team got attacked by a group of feral Worgen. Lyste killed two of them and her team the rest, alas the kills came too late for one of her men and his head was ripped off. Lyste was broken by the loss of one of her teammates but know she had to continue. She quickly emptied her mind and continued her mission. Her team sneaked through the streets of Gilneas, staying to the Shadows where possible. A lot of chaos was present in the city making it even easier for Lyste and her team. She found her target and told her team to find a position and await her signal. Her team scattered, each member found a position. Lyste gave a very subtle signal and her team caused a distraction in the small camp. As the commander and his team were busy with Lyste’s team, Lyste shot a volley of arrows towards the men, hitting most of them. The fight, though intense, was short and in the end, the Forsaken were victorious.

After her mission in Gilneas was finished, Lyste and her team scattered and each individual was to make his own way back. Lyste was the first to return. After a week, her team returned and together they reported to their superiors. Impressed by her low death toll and rather flawlessly succeeded mission, her superiors promoted Lyste to Captain of the Undercity. Lyste’s team was reassigned to other mission and Lyste left alone to do what the Forsaken required of her.
