Seraphe Locke plays hard. She was drummed out of the Stormwind guard for her inability to play nice. She's hard boiled and can be hot tempered, but she's also got a soft spot for the weak and innocent. She's a fighter, and a mercenary, in attitude as well as career. That said, she's loyal to her people and a defender of those unable to defend themselves.

History

Locke grew up on the outskirts of Elwynn Forest, her father was a logger and she helped in his work as she got older. She was a child during the First War, and much of it was a blur for her. She spent the war, scared and cold, in a refugee camp. The experience built a fire within her that would later lead her to the Stormwind Guard, where she would punish crime, perhaps indiscriminately.

Growing up in the woods, she spent much of her youth swinging an axe against trees, and collecting tinder when she was too young to do so. Due to the lack of knowing her mother, she was never one for the traditional gender roles, she preferred to work with her hands and a sharp blade. Her father's camp supplied lumber to the area's rebuilding projects, and she did her best to assist in the work. Locke was in Goldshire when the tavern was rebuilt, and played in the woods outside of the local church as her father's crew helped the stonemasons raise it to it's once-great glory.

Despite a lack of a formal education, Locke was a quick study and picked up knowledge shared around a campfire by fellow loggers; under the tutelage of other adults in her camp, she learned to fight with her fists. In her early adulthood she stayed with the camp, taking up her father's trade as a tree cutter, and sold her whittling work to passing traders for some spare coin. She stayed with the camp in her father's capacity for several years, until a disease took him in his old age and he passed. After sorting her father's things, she found records of her mother, a Knight of Stormwind.

She left the camp and headed for the capital, where she investigated her parentage. Records indicated that her mother had died shortly after Seraphe was born, but that her birth had been kept a secret. Through a series of bribes, threats and underworld contacts, she was able to find out that her mother's Knight captain was still in service, on dispatch to Grand Hamlet. She found him and through their discussion, learned more about her mother's life, working her way up from guardswoman. The captain had Locke's mother's blade collected and given to her, and then offered her a position within his command.

At the age of eighteen, Seraphe Locke joined the Stormwind Guard. Initially, her duty had her patrolling the outskirts of Elwynn, where she could help protect the loggers and woodsmen from the brigands and raiders. However, a series of reports regarding her handling of criminals brought her to the commander's attention. A small time thief ended up with broken knees, a bandit under interrogation ended up having his jaw shattered, and several other reports ended up with her being hauled back to Stormwind, where her superiors could watch her closer. However, nothing would stick and her behavior quickly curtailed itself beneath their scrutiny.

And then the scourge came. Locke wasn't content to sit pretty in Stormwind and requested to be sent to Lordaeron as part of an assisting force. Despite having chosen to come, she felt a knot tightening in her gut during her service there. Watching her kinsmen fall to mindless undeath scarred Locke deep, and she became embittered, but she stayed loyal during the battle against the Lich King's forces. She became renown with her mother's spear and fought valiantly to the end. Eventually Lordaeron was lost, and she returned to Stormwind with her kinsmen and resumed her duties. Older, wiser, and embittered through the experiences she'd been through. Soon enough her old habits returned, and her abuse was resumed. Criminals in custody ended up crippled, and she was court-martialed. After two years in prison, she was released for good behavior, and left Stormwind.

Seraphe began to drift through the Eastern Kingdoms, brawling and boozing, lacking purpose and blaming herself for everything under the sun, until one day when the small village in the south of Loch Modan she had been staying in came under attack by bandit raiders. Taking up her blade, she lead the local peasants to the defense of the village. The raiders were routed, and she was hailed as a hero. The village offered her the position of it's town sheriff, a job she gladly accepted. She recovered her spirit and her love for her people and country over the course of the five years that she served there. Eventually however, the village began to part; the local mine had dried up and the workmen had left for greener pastures. At the end of her fifth year, she was one of the last five people living there. And so Seraphe resigned her post and left.

Since then, Locke has wandered alone, serving justice her way, and fighting to feed herself as a mercenary
