Appearance

Ever paranoid of the perceived threats of radioactive contamination, rock-falls, and other evils of the world, Jinky Lingerspark only feels really and truly safe when he's wearing an armored clean-suit. This mechanical monstrosity often sports such stylish accessories as rappelling hooks, medical kits, and miscellaneous bandolier-pouches carrying any number of mechanical and clockwork devices.

Personality

The gnome's nickname is undeniably apt. Meek, and easily scared to the point of taking extreme evasive maneuvers and defensively offensive actions, Sisyphus's mind and personality are the product of the aggressive mental scarring brought on by the sudden and inconceivable death of Gnomeregan.

His quixotic, pathological, and curious aversion to violence of any kind has created a self-contradicting psychological monster: he avoids hostility and tension with nigh-religious fervor, but if cornered by it, will end the threat in a fashion that can only be described as gut-splattering overkill.

History

Sisyphus Lingerspark's (formerly Slowburn, a last name claimed to have found its basis in the invention of the delayed-action fuse by one of Jinky's dear, departed great-grandparents on his father's side) early life would be best displayed as a collage: a rapid-fire slideshow, a smear of color. Sensory overload. The lights, sound, smell, and color of the great techno-city of Gnomeregan, the steam-powered wonder that it was. His education: a young Gnome seated, if you can imagine it, within the great teaching halls of the city, his face rapt, eyes alight with life and excitement at the esoteric power of knowledge. Physics and mathematics, medicine and mechanical engineering, and above all the biological engineering that is the living body -- all this taken in. The invention of the Lingerspark, a device meant to stabilize an unsteady heart rhythm through the application of electricity.

And then, it all came crashing down.

Few of the survivors, it seems, remember the acrid smell of Gnomeregan's final days -- the smell of blood, of powder, of smoke, of raw, animalistic fear. The images that always stand out are the heroic final stands of the city's defenders as they attempted to stem the horde of the invaders, or that of the beastly Troggs themselves -- taller than any Gnome, savage, their stone teeth stained a meaty red. Of everything that could be remembered -- the faces and names of family, the alarms as the waste tanks vented in the effort that doomed them all, or the bitter cold of the midnight trek across the frozen lake in Dun Morogh, it was the smell that Lingerspark remembers.
