Personality

Lily is a kind girl who cares plenty about others. She goes out of her way to aid other people, but only if it is a minor detour. She has shown herself to be cruel on very few occasions, it isn't a trait that Lily seems to hold dear either. Her most pronounced characteristic would be her loudness. Lily doesn't even talk all that much and neither does she have loud vocals but she always seems to be holding a different conversation than anyone else in the same room. She does not only sidetrack with her words but on occasion Lily is overwhelmed by her own imagination or is distracted by something unusual. Lily enjoys playing games and has a way to turn everything into a game for herself. She uses a wall of wit, irony, tomfoolery and lunacy to leave her mark on nearly every situation she becomes entangled in. Lily dislikes Elves.

History

Lily was born to the lovely Thayne family. Her father a mortician, her mother.. Dead. So much for the family, her mother had succumbed to an infection and died a minute after her first and only daughter had been born. Lily's father, Gregorius, was torn over the loss of his only cherished companion in the world. Her father has quite easily relinquished the little faith in the Holy Light that lingered after his wife's unfortunate demise. The shadow welcomed him with open arms, he had set his eyes on a new grand prize. It would be immortality, he would give his daughter the opportunity to surpass death. He would not stand idly by as there was a chance death could swoop in to take another loved one.

Lily's childhood had started out fairly normal for any child without a mother. She was left home alone several times. Her meals consisted mostly of milk, bread and water. As soon as Gregorius had found a way to silence her daughter by means of a pacifier was she regularly taken to Gregorius' workplace. Even if the man was capable of affording a nanny, he wasn't just about to trust one with his daughter's life. Lily had seen the insides of the mortuary nearly as much as either the insides of her own home or the insides of her eyelids. Lily had already managed to walk, fall down and the only good way to shut up the little girl was a silencing spell. Gregorius had already used it plenty on the girl.

The visits to the mortuary came to a grinding halt at her fourth birthday. Her meals became more sober, her father leaving out the milk often so Lily would have to make do with bread and water. Her father had started teasing his daughter with shadow magic, sharp tools and his extensive medical knowledge. Gregorius had once been a renowned surgeon and he was going to prove it to Lily. Every day Gregorius left for work he had the decency to lock his daughter in a roomy cupboard with nothing more than the dark, a few skins of water and dry bread. It was either because he thought his daughter to be a flight risk or judged the world outside of the cupboard to be a hazardous one indeed.

The torture of her father's experiments grew as Lily grew older. Not that Lily was actually growing as much as she could have grown. Her diet was scarce at best. It mostly consisted of bread and water, the occasional glass of milk and small amounts of fruit and meet on rare occasions. All of it seemed just about enough to sustain Lily's life. Her skin grew paler, rarely being allowed out the door. To add to it, Lily was not allowed to see other people unless her father had brought them to their home. She still spent lots of time locked up in the cupboard, it had turned into a habit for Lily and Gregorius alike. The most useful contribution Gregorius had offered Lily was the ability to read and write as a present for her sixth birthday.

As another gift Lily had received an original print of her father's book on shadow magic. It was the first book she ever read and therefor left quite the imprint on Gregorius' daughter. Sure, Lily read a lot of books over the years in lack of better things to do. Her father had been quite the collector of books, there were hundreds of books Lily was able to read through. At the age of twelve she had managed to read through nearly all the books available in the house. The book on shadow magic had a few more traces on several pages. Lily had learned to follow the shadow by not only the book but her father as well. He had not only been busy with his job but he seemed also very dedicated to shaping Lily in his own image.

Lily emerged from her house at eighteen with more scars and more knowledge that were obtainable in that house. She wasn't actually leaving her father but she had finally been allowed to leave the house after eighteen arduous years. Lily still wasn't granted that much leeway. She still had vowed to pick up after her father's work as a mortician. She had read all the appropriate books and experienced enough surgery to get her through. Lily felt alienated from the world, her childhood had not been akin to others. The girl resumed what she had been known to do in the years before. She continued to read and pray to the shadow in the fleeting hope that things might change.

It had struck Lily as odd that Gregorius was receiving so many guest a few months prior to his mysterious appearance. She made acquaintance to a slave dealer and a warlock in specific but they were far from the worst of the people Gregorius traded secrets with. There had not even been a build up to the point where Gregorius vanished. It had been quiet for a week and Lily's father said he was going out for a walk, it was the last walk he had taken in Lily's eyes. She never saw the man again.

Lily discovered that her father actually owned the mortuary after he had disappeared. The girl didn't feel like following in her father's footsteps as much as he had pressed her to do so. She sold part of the mortuary she inherited for a large sum of money and decided to spend her time on other endeavours such as tailoring and alchemy. She had kept part of the mortuary to keep her ties to her past and as an optional backup incase all her money had been stolen or something similar. She started going out more, traveling across the country and exploring what she had been missing.

Skills and Abilities

Lily's offensive skills are limited to knocking people out by touching their skin and throwing shadowy needles.

She is well versed with defensive spells and keeping herself safe. She is also able to bend the shadow only slightly to her will, using it for tailoring and other purposes. One of these other purposes is the minute control over small objects. She is able to animate the objects through controlling their shadow.

She is able to delve through unconscious minds and even pull them into her own imaginarium.
