Appearance

From fine robes to simple clothing, Liethel enjoys understated elegance, and much like any self-respecting Blood Elf, she's quite willing to pretty herself up via an extensive wardrobe. When out and about however, she'll likely be in embroidered tunics, pants and sturdy boots. She seems to have a penchant for long, puffy sleeves too.

Other: She has a penchant for flowery perfumes. Whether they're there to mask the scent of death or because she finds it pleasant is debatable. She is also very pale - pretty much as pale as Blood Elves can get, though she would attribute it to not having drained much Fel to become a Blood Elf, as opposed to the truth: Necromancy corruption.

Personality

Liethel attempts to appear as calm, controlled and pleasant as possible, and often succeeds in coming off in a friendly manner to her peers. This is especially true during her business for the House, as well as her own work. Liethel has a fascination with life and the way it works, and for the most part, this helps her in her overt pursuits. This same fascination has a more perverse twist to it, in that she is utterly fascinated, and practically addicted to the casting of necromantic spells and manipulating the energies of unlife.

Patient and diligent about the entirety of her duties in life, she offers much room and freedom to those around her, but spares herself no such laxity. Indeed, everything that comes of her hand must be perfect in her view, or she will likely scrap it and start over again – a fact true especially when dealing in medicine and necromancy.

Of the races, Liethel cares only for her own. She hates Humanity with a burning passion, and fits Dwarves and Gnomes into the same bucket. Kaldorei she sees as misguided and short-sighted, whereas Draenei she has no explicit views on, other than a bit of animosity for them siding with the Alliance and a bit of thanks for restoring the Sunwell to counterbalance that. As far as the Horde is concerned, she distrusts Forsaken, but finds them useful regardless, couldn't care less for Tauren or Orcs and the two races' wants, and shows utter disgust at Trolls.

History

Born to nobility, in the small but old House Thurandal, which specialized in ecology and the way the Arcane impacted the Elves' home in Quel'thalas and Liethel arrived in a time of prosperity. Her childhood consisted of education from a young age, meant to instill in her the ‘proper' way to act around others for one of her station. This meant that a fair bit of distance was present between her and her parents – not for lack of love, but rather for a perceived need to steel her for whatever life would bring her way.

Growing up, she was trained in fencing and basic magic, along with riding lessons on Quel'dorei horses, and all the proper etiquette that her station implied. In addition, she witnessed the birth of her baby sister, an experience which - with time - brought her a new playmate and companion, until the two became inseparable.

The stark reality of Liethel's situation was a fair bit more dismal: She and her sister were being used as diplomatic pawns, carted around and shown off by their parents, and Liethel's sharp wit had her take notice quickly. She tried protecting her younger sibling as much as she could from the scheming of nobility, but the fact of the matter was that there wasn't much either of them could do.

Nevertheless, Liethel became a proud young woman, well-versed in magic, medicine and the natural sciences – the latter of the two springing from her fascination with life and the way it works on the one hand and the House's specialty and general area of business on the other – as well as some mercantile techniques, enough that she began taking over some of the House's lesser affairs.

A short while later however, the unexpected happened. Liethel was sent off to Lordaeron on a diplomatic errand for the House, and she hated it – Not because of the duties involved and the politeness she'd have to exhibit when dealing with creatures she thought little above Trolls in intellect, but because it kept her away from her sister. In the end, while she did perform her duties and established some semblance of relations, something else caught her eye.

The Cult of the Damned was spreading throughout Lordaeron at the time, promising wealth, riches, but most importantly – power. This caught Liethel's eye, the power to escape her situation, to never be a pawn again, and instead spend as much time at home with her sister as possible, even if it meant taking house affairs into her own hands, but even she knew better than to join. She didn't really care who she was being associated with at the time as she was drawn into the study of Necromancy, and quickly took to it, learning from scraps left behind by the Cult of the Damned's necromancers, as well as forays towards Dalaran, in search of more forbidden knowledge, all with a voracious appetite and working for the downfall of her prison: Lordaeron.

Only as the Human city remained crumbling and the Scourge lay poised on the gates of Quel'thalas did Liethel snap out of her vindictive rage. Slowly but surely, she realized the fact that her own people were about to be attacked – her own kin – and did whatever she could to return home. It would not be easy for her to escape the Plaguelands, as the Scourge was not exactly known for allowing people to waltz by into the Elves' ancient home but in the end, she managed to speed off for Quel'thalas.

Arriving home mere days before the Siege of Silvermoon, she barely had enough time to reunite with her family and explain the horrors of what she had seen, until the Scourge overran the elves. Needless to say, she said nothing of her involvement in the practice of Necromancy. After the Siege, she partook of Fel alongside the rest of her people, becoming a Blood Elf, in honor of the blood spilled by the fallen of Quel'thalas.

Fate would have her entire family survive the siege – mother, father and sister alike were alive. Shaken, yes, but alive. It was not long before Liethel was offered counseling and therapy in an attempt to mitigate the psychological trauma of her witnessing the fall of Lordaeron and Quel'thalas alike, which she gladly accepted. The strange air she had about her from her dark practice was attributed to the terrible events she'd seen, and it did not take long before she'd take up Necromancy once more – this time using her skills against the remaining undead in Quel'thalas, though doing so in secret.

The later years, she spent at home, making up for the time she'd lost during her stay in Lordaeron as the House's business was running well – ecologists to study the Ghostlands were in need, as were those versed in such natural sciences asked to help keep the corruption from spreading further into Eversong and so on, and Liethel sometimes split her time between such pursuits and those of a medical nature, her fascination with life unrelenting still.

In recent times, her parents' role in House affairs has all but disappeared, as the elderly couple retired to the background to spend their last few decades in peace, away from the hassle of Headship, allowing Liethel and her sister much more room to maneuver and live a somewhat-carefree life, Liethel's secret addiction to Necromancy notwithstanding.

Skills and Abilities

Raising corpses into her undead servants, or ripping their spirits out and turning them into Spectres, as per the Necromancer CoTH-wiki page - pretty much the Ability list in there applies. Can't cast Fire magic at all. Sacrificed the Fire school entirely in order to learn Necromancy.
