Personality

Empathetic, kind, and gentle, Leland has developed into a man who would feel uneasy with being told to kill a fly that was invading his home or personal space. He would much rather carefully capture the fly in an empty glass and release the “poor lost creature” outside. A stray cat discovered on the streets would instantaneously capture his heart and inspire him to take the animal home to care for it.

He calls himself a pacifist due to his desire to never fight again, but instead aid those in need, be it spiritually or otherwise. If combat were to be initiated, Leland would either flee or exhaust his energy to prevent any damage upon his person, hoping the assailant would eventually tire out or give up all the while trying to reason with them.

History

Leland was born and raised in Lordaeron, living in poverty for the majority of his life. His mother seemed to always be sick while his father was an abhorrent drunk. Throughout his less than fulfilling childhood, Leland had his older brother, Barden. Barden was a rowdy child who participated in the gangs of children and teenagers that could be found in the slums of Lordaeron. It didn't take long until Leland found himself joining his brother in any trouble the gangs created. It took even less time for the gang members to discover how easily they could manipulate young Leland to do ridiculous or dangerous things. His desire to please made for an easy scapegoat and target of pressure.

With time, Leland integrated into the street gangs. Trouble was not a foreign concept when friends and he had gotten into a lot of it, even seek it. At the age of twenty-four, Leland and his brother were both well recognized by the authorities of the area as trouble makers and law breakers. Though never the one who picked it, his occasional drunken bar fight ended the night with being dragged away by law enforcers once finished. He had spent months of his life sitting in jail cells for such crimes, never committing a crime that would call for a death sentence or a physical punishment.

Despite his knack for getting into trouble, his gentle personality was well known with local law enforcers and he found himself questioned by the jail warden as to why he did such things. His earnest response always had something to do with pleasing his brother and peers, much to the disappointment of his unlikely friend. The only situation in which Leland had initiated a fight was when protecting a prostitute from the abuse of her client in the back of an alley. Leland later found himself once again in a jail cell, explaining himself to the incredulous warden. The warden sincerely urged him to reconsider his current path in life and to even leave the city to avoid the gang altogether, calling Leland a “diamond in the rough kinda fellow”.

By the time Leland was twenty-seven, he was already making plans to follow part of the advice given to him by the warden when he met the love of his life. The two made grand plans of leaving Lordaeron for Stormwind City without notifying any of their friends or family. They treated the idea like it was their special passport into paradise that they could not share with anyone for fear of the passport being stolen. It was one year later that the plan had been placed into motion and they were living in Stormwind together after silently slipping away to a boat one night, unnoticed by anyone that knew them. Their new life in Stormwind consisted of living in a small house of their own supported by the occasional job Leland could get ahold of and his lover’s fine tailoring skills.

After five years of living harmoniously together, tragedy struck. Leland’s wife grew depressed from the reality that they could not raise children due to one of them being infertile. Her distress grew when she heard of the plague that befell Lordaeron and after the news of the kingdom’s fall restlessness appeared in Leland’s wife. She grew gaunt and lifeless, floating silently throughout the house as she rarely spoke and ate. Not long after her unsettling change, she fell sick and passed away.

Leland was a widower at thirty three. He found himself falling into his old ways of drinking, now frequenting taverns and rarely socializing. After a year of his sullen escapism a priest found him slumped outside of a tavern on the ground. The priest was at first revolted by the stench and appearance of Leland, soon after feeling pity for the man for appearing so misguided in life. Offering his hand to help Leland to his feet, the two walked about Stormwind and spoke in private until daybreak. Upon hearing Leland’s story, the priest declared that the Light had guided him to the man in order to offer him a new purpose; to serve the church of the Light.

The following years of Leland’s life seemed to blur as he took to training to be a priest. It was humbling to the man as he was constantly reminded of his late introduction to the Light and surpassed in skill and discipline by children half his age. His life’s turn-around brought a new energy to him, long since lost with the life of his wife. Multiple friends and contacts were made as he began socializing again in a positive manner, befriending the Kloffenstein family among other individuals. Now, he works closely with the Order of Kloffensteins, wishing to make a difference in the world for the better despite his weak connection with the Light. He believes that the Order is among one of the only ways he can make this difference while he still considers working with the Argent Crusade.
