Personality

  • Alignment: Chaotic good.

A little on the odd side. Kurai's mentality has been that of a Stormcrow for longer than it has been an elf, and she acts accordingly. She is a flighty, wild person who lacks in a few social niceties. The world's change since she last woke has come as an unpleasant surprise: losing land, immortality, and World Tree have made her slightly bitter. To her, the change in the Kal'dorei attitude towards other races smacks of the common views held before the Sundering (that trying to stay as close as possible to nature isn't necessary).

She's a wise, well-judging person when she wants to be, particularly when advising others. She had good academic skills before she started living as a Stormcrow, and it shows today in her re-learning of written Darnassian (she can't read or write Common) and mathematics. Her curiosity is her strongest trait. She'll go out of her way to explore and learn about things, whether or not she likes them. Oddly enough, she's interested in technology as long as it's not destructive. Magic is something she loathes.

She's been trying to get used to normal food lately. She has no idea what to make of most food, particularly sweet things. In her case, the proverbial sweet tooth is more like a carrion tooth.

Her racial relations can be summed up in one word: distrust. Any race other than Kal'dorei will be tarred with the same brush. She reserves a special hate for Blood Elves.

History

Kurai was born before the peak of Kal'dorei civilization, into the growing city of Shandaral. Neither parent was magically-talented in the slightest, nor was Kurai. She spent almost all of her time in the forests and mountains surrounding Shandaral, learning the things she needed to know to become a huntress. However, she was too curious to leave it at that. Over the course of several hundred years, she had gotten too familiar with that place.

She had always been a strange girl: one who dreamed of stars and open space, often paying more attention to the sky than the ground beneath her feet. Birds held a special fascination for her. And druids. She got bored of going through the same forests so often, and began going into Shandaral to talk to the druids who sometimes carried messages from larger settlements. Their gift of flight was nothing short of amazing to her, and she gleaned all of the information she could from each. Some were suspicious of her trying to learn druidism from them. Others were more generous, marking it as her area of study and telling her more of what she wanted to know. Those were the ones she made an impression on. She was persistent and interested enough to get a lot of information from them, even if it wasn't lessons proper. It was enough.

Her friendships with another aspiring female druid and an elderly Druid of the Grove she had met in the forests were what tipped the balance. The Druid of the Grove had the patience of an ancient tree for the enthusiastic pair, and ended up teaching them some of the basic spells. Kuraiyu's eyes, which had been silver, went amber almost immediately. The druid only taught them the theory of shapeshifting and not the specifics of the forms, but by then, she had begun to practice her spells with occasional advice, training, and work with others. Her first transformation into a Stormcrow seemed to her like returning to her own 'true' form.

Thus freed from the ground, she traveled everywhere and anywhere she could. She volunteered her services to carry messages and scout for others, without changing form, so her gender would stay hidden. From the air, she saw the peak of the Kal'dorei culture: city after city, marvel after marvel. The innumerable strange ruins and creatures in the world were her favorite things to explore. She spent almost all of her time in Stormcrow form, and missed the growing fanaticism of Queen Azshara and the Highborne.

When the War of the Ancients broke out, she volunteered almost immediately as a Druid of the Talon. She operated as a scout and informant, roosting in Black Rook Hold to be more easily communicated with. Halfway through the war, she was officially 'outed' and told not to continue as a druid. She continued working - but this time as a ground scout.

After the Sundering and the work to rebuild, she slept like the other druids, in a less-occupied barrow den in Moonglade. (Not the Stormrage ones.)

She woke almost ten thousand years later. The planet was at a lull. For the first time in thousands of years, she felt the drive to explore what remained of the continent. Near the end of her journey, in Winterspring, she met someone whom she found familiar. One Ideluran Seashroud; the grandson of the Druid of the Grove whom she had learned her first druidic spells from. He had come on travel from Ashenvale. When he continued on to Moonglade, she went with him. The two spent several hundred years together, taking one another as mates. By the end of that, she was longing to return to the world in the Emerald Dream. The un-shattered, pristine Azeroth. And so she did, leaving Ideluran with their daughter, Kenarith.

She spent many further years in the Dream, and came close to being ensnared by the Nightmare. She slept past the Battle of Mount Hyjal. It was only recently that she came free, to fly over Azeroth once more.
