Apperance

Keis tends to dress casually, rarely going about in armor, despite her relative proficiency with it, and instead usually sticks to cloth and leather garbs. It would be odd and rare to find her without her wide-brimmed, worn out hat, which speaks volumes about her rustic origins. The old thing sits fairly loosely on her head, seeming to be fitted for a larger skull, and she seems particularly proud of it.

Other: She's loathe to be without a firearm nearby. She's an impressive level of skill with melee weapons, but she's the sort to stick to her roots, and rifles and shotguns are more her forte. She's also branched out to pistols, to top off her ranged arsenal, and otherwise prefers swords. She hasn't much in the way of scars, save a ranch-work related marks, a bullet scar or three, and a couple old cut-lines. She's well muscled, though, and the injuries were well tended, so all in all she doesn't look half bad, if a bit imposing compared to most women.

Personality

Strong-minded and straight forward, this girl doesn't think twice before spitting out whatever happens to be on her brain. This behavior extends to most of her actions, and she's a reputation for being fairly impulsive. She has a very laid back feel, an oddity, considering her roots, and tends to try and get along with most. This is good, since she tends to take a shotgun-diplomacy style of interaction with people she doesn't like, unflinching if a smart mouth needs slapping, or a potential danger needs putting down permanently. In this sense, she might come off a bit remorseless, then worse, totally carefree as she hardly gives a second thought to whatever bad action she might have just taken. On the other end of the spectrum, those in her good graces will probably find a stalwart and relatively reliable friend, who's always eager to bring merriment and joy to those around her.

History

Samantha Keis was born on a small ranch in Westfall. Her father specialized in Cattle Trade, and the Keis name was, in its time, quite popular. They had minor trade in crops, too, and so the family never suffered for money. The first several years of the girl's life passed without much interest, and all was well.

When the young Samantha was reaching her tenth birthday, a particularly bad winter came upon them. The cattle were sick, and the crops were worse. Her mother grew ill, though not deathly so at first. Being in Westfall, however, made getting medicine something of an issue. It was a slow, money-consuming process, and eventually her mother passed on the following spring.

With money tight after their efforts to save the woman of the house, Rancher Keis had to let go his Hands, and young Sam was expected to pick up the slack. It was hard, at first, but her father and mother had been strong, and she was, too. She busted her butt relentlessly to see that she and her father could bring some money in. Of the many events of the next few years, the most important was when Sam helped birth a calf. The mother was sickly and too weak, in pain even after the calf had come free. Her father had planned to put her down, but was busy with the newborn, and so Sam, showing a particularly chilling level of ease in such gruesome tasks, made short work of the cow with her father's rifle, which had sat nearby idly. There was not joy or malice in the act, it was simply something that had to be done, and the girl showed no hesitation in the act, nor remorse after. She simply helped the father clean the calf up and get it somewhere warm.

Sometime later, when young Sam was about seventeen, bandits came to her home. Red-bandanna masks covering their faces, and wicked intent their hearts. The girl had been out in the barn, and so didn't realize anything was amiss until the gunfire started. She rushed to the home to find two of the men cooling on the floor, and her father propped in his favorite chair by the fire, blood rushing out from knife-wounds. He didn't last long enough for any particularly long goodbyes, but it was enough for some level of closure for the girl, and so she took what meager possessions the two had scrounged over the years and fled, before more of the bandits returned.

She spent the next few years in the Westfall Militia, learning of melee combat and some tactics, though she never excelled particularly far. She had always been a wild spirit, and even the relatively laid-back style of organization the Militia instilled was stifling to her. After her hands had taken out many of these "Defias" and her relatively small hunger for vengeance had been sated, she left them to find her own fortune elsewhere.

She simply goes by Keis, now, as she's the last of her line, and picked it up from how she was addressed in her days in the Militia. She roams about seeking work and money, always waiting for that big break hiding just beyond her reach.
