Appearance

Usual Garments/Armor: Kavaan wears the stereotypical dark robes of the Auchenai, some in shades of blue, gray, black, or purple. They appear to be of mostly high quality fabric, but will often don common robes when going out to interact in society. When the call to defend his brothers and sisters, or the crypts he has sworn allegiance to, Kavaan will switch into the more maneuverable kilt whenever he can. The priest often holds a staff either strapped to his back, or in his hand. It's of sturdy material, enchanted time and time again by the arcanists of the Draenei to increase it's hardiness.

Other: Kavaan keeps a blindfold with him, for when the sight of death becomes too much. The initiation rite to become an Auchenai requires that one drink an elixir that reveals the spirits of the dead to the imbiber. This can be rather distressing, so he will bind his eyes to keep the sights out.

Personality

Alignment: Lawful Good

Although he has been constantly surrounded by death and destruction since his arrival on Draenor, Kavaan has managed to keep a rather optimistic outlook on life. It would be impossible for him to ease the mourning process (of both the dead and the living) if he himself was in a harsh emotional state. The Draenei makes jokes when he can, in an attempt to lighten the often dark mood within the crypts, but knows the time and place. Years helping people has taught him when to keep his mouth shut, and when to speak his mind. Under all this however, he does have issues, scarred by several lifetimes over of stories about death, war, famine, and destruction. He knows all too well about them, and looks forward to the day the Army of the Light will be formed, and for the war to end all wars to take place

History

Born thousands of years ago, on a planet only shortly inhabited by the Exiled Ones, Kavaan was brought into the world. His birth was a bright time in an otherwise dark section of his mother's life, with the last assault by the Legion utterly destroying the majority of her family. The only that remained were her husband, grandfather, and now her child. She a priestess, and his father a paladin, the two raised him in an attempt to be the most devout of the devout; To use the blessing of the Naaru to his full extent.

His childhood was full of prayer, dedication, and selflessness. Where many of the others may have been studying the arcane, or practicing with the blade, Kavaan was deep within the walls of the churches in the ships, learning about the Light. After his first millennia, Kavaan had a deep connection to the light, becoming an initiate of priesthood. His father was somewhat disappointed, rather having him be a Vindicator as himself, but was nonetheless proud that he had joined the community as a light wielder.

So it went for many years, growing from a child into a man, partaking in the defense of his home against the Burning Legion. In the middle of this however, the Draenei found a near-perfect world. It could sustain life, shown by the Draenei, Ogres, and many other races, as well as provide them with a hiding place that they may actually be able to escape the Legion with. So Kavaan, with the rest of the Draenei, settled into their new home. Used to a life of selflessness, when word of a new crypt for the Draenei was to be built, he volunteered his time and effort to it's construction. Deep within Terokkar forest, The Auchenai were born.

At first, the position fell into his lap, but he gladly accepted it. Becoming a priest who's goal was to ease the worst pain a man or woman could feel seemed a noble deed. To protect the dead until their spirits could rise again and fight the Legion, even better. His strength in the light heightened, and was both proud and sad that he would soon be able to watch over the fading Light of one of the Naaru. Putting D'ore deep within the Auchindoun, his brothers and sisters began to take a small affinity for an unknown type of magic; Shadow. It was unlike that which the Legion wielded, but unlike the light at the same time. The keepers of D'ore said it looked much as his new form did, and as such, viewed it as a tool for peace.

Using the shadow to ease the pain from people's minds, the Auchenai were better able to complete their given task. Some were able to manipulate it into an offensive ability, which many of the Auchenai viewed as distasteful, but it eventually fell into it's own caste within the organization. Kavaan himself only learned trace amount of it, enough to soothe the minds of those who were in grief. The shadow began to spread however, infecting many of the minds of the Auchenai. Kavaan was one of the few able to resist the insanity that followed, through a combination of willpower and foreseeing the complete collapse of D'ore. He tried in vain to pull his followers away from the corruption they were heading toward, but too many were against him. He was given restriction after restriction, as all those were with his mindset, until he was at the lowest rung of the order. He continued to voice his distaste for the new path the head of the Auchenai were traveling, but was payed no head. It was around this time that the Auchenai Priests informally became known as ‘Death Priests' within greater Draenic society.

This period went on for many years, until the Great Massacre. The orcs began to slaughter the Draenei mercilessly, seemingly without any reason at all. They hacked through flesh and bone, blue blood spilling over the new homeworld of Draenor. The Auchenai fled, after attempts at negotiation were met with axes, holing up deep within the crypts. The orcs entered after them, an entire clan taking part of the Draenic holy site as their own, attempting to summon some sort of beast with the magic present in Auchindoun. The war raged on, and the majority of the orcs left for Azeroth, however the ones within the crypts stayed. They tormented the Draenei day and night, but the decaying order could do little in return.

As the years went on, a strange race of pink creatures arrived at the door of Auchindoun, with one of the Arakkoa at their head. They held the same belief in the Light as the Auchenai did, so their help was taken; Their own motive the reclamation of one of their leaders. The Sons of Lothar banded together with the few sane Auchenai left, as well as the spirits summoned by them, and attacked the Bleeding Hollow Clan, driving many of them out for the time being. The Alliance left, but they would meet again in the future.

The orcs eventually moved back into the Crypts, but the Auchenai were going to extreme measures now to drive them back. They began summoning the remains of the dead with magic granted to them by demons they now consorted with. This was the final straw for Kavaan, and he outright scolded to his brothers and sisters about their blasphemous ways. This resulted in his expulsion from the Order, branding him an exile. He was neither the first or last to speak out, but he was now left without a home. He lived on the outskirts of Terokkar for months, witnessing the massive shockwave that blasted from within his old home. The Elemental Lord of Sound had been summoned, but he figured it was by the doing of his old friends. With a sigh Kavaan began walking the length of Draenor, pushing through the remnants of his forest home, past the winds of Nagrand, and finally, against the massive mushroom stalks of Zangarmarsh.

It was here that he found a band of Draenei, still loyal to the surprisingly alive Velen. Upon relaying his identity, they were hesitant to accept one of the mad Death Priests, but brought him in nonetheless. It was through this chain of events that he eventually was able to board the Exodar, and crash into Azeroth. It was disorientating at first, but he soon grew accustomed to the new cultures of the world as he had so many times before. The priest was able to continue his training alone, practicing his skills with a staff, his mind, and finally his ability with the light. Kavaan joined in the assault against the undead, viewing them as an affront to everything he had been taught in his long life. About the peace of death, and how the spirit should be saved for the betterment of the universe at the end of the great chase through the Nether. He completely ignored the call to fight in the burning crusade however, viewing Draenor as a lost land. He had no interest in fighting against Illidan; He could have the shattered world. His brothers in Auchindoun could have the ruined crypt, and Vashj could keep the bogs of Zangarmarsh. Kavaan's new home was here on Azeroth, and he would secure it to the best of his ability.

The Death Priest did however fight against Kael'thas alongside the Shattered Sun Offensive, in an attempt to save his beloved Naaru, and keep the Legion from tainting his new world of Azeroth any further. The attacks on the Sunwell were a success, letting him bond once again with his fellow brothers and sisters. He preached the ways of the Auchenai once again, now that the former taint was removed from the title with the displays of loyalty he had shown. This caused several others to join his cause, becoming the Remnants of Auchindoun.

The few new Auchenai, as well as others that had escaped formed a small, tight-knit group. When the horn of war was sounded to combat the Lich King in Northrend, they were there. They fought on every front of the cursed land. From the snowy Borean Tundra, to the green Grizzly Hills. They pushed alongside the Argent Crusade who accepted them into their ranks, aiding in the assault against Ice Crown Citadel. Now that the war against Arthas is over however, the Remnants are attempting to gather the bodies of the fallen Draenei from both recent wars, and create a New Auchindoun on their home of Azeroth.
