Personality

Alignment: Lawful-ish Neutral

Sir. Jacob Grayson is a cold, calculating and ambitious man. Despite that (or because of that), he dons the mask of friendliness, false extroversion, impeccable manners, goodwill and cheer. While having significant narcissistic tendencies, the rather handsome and always prim and proper lord attempts to charm through subtle controlled arrogance and a cynical sense of humor that favors sarcasm. He seeks to have close to full intellectual and emotional control of himself so as to always be able to place himself in the mindframe most effective to his situation. The Lord actively attempts to speak with perfect diction and intonation in all circumstances. He despises being called Alimus.

The true Grayson, when not self-manipulated into a specific sub-persona, works within a cold system of ethics, using reason and empathy as tools to nudge the beliefs of those around him closer to his. While being well able to fake tolerance, Sir Alimus Grayson has little patience for anyone lacking his brand of ambition. He has close to no respect for the uneducated – and thus sees the alignment of Silvermoon (which he considers a superior civilization to that of humans in a few ways) with the all-too-savage Horde as an incomprehensible crime.

An intellectual at heart, Jacob values knowledge, wit and rationality, believing that having ambition and power should be a naturally resulting consequence of holding those qualities. He believes in the ideal of achieving potential, of maximizing human achievement. This credo is strong enough that it is his goal for those around him and for the civilization around him. He desires that society advances at any cost, that all should seek and reach excellence or serve those that do. He believes that while solidarity and charity have their place, the greater good for even the weakest of society is achieved by the best pushing harder and harder.

Reason can direct him to perform acts which others may see as altruistic. Having no principle opposition to bringing good to others, he will perform what is the best course of actions for others insofar that it happens to also be the best course of action for himself, to the ultimate goal of using his power leading those around him to a better world, knowingly or not.

He finds the religious concept of the Forgotten Shadow as an adequate representation of his beliefs in relation to esential questions about the nature of thinking beings. He has always been sure to integrate this fond belief into a system of duality that he embraces, the shadowed and cruel but ultimately well-intentioned half of bettering the world through individual accumulation of power meeting the other more idealistic and altruistic half. He often forces himself, with significant success due to a rather sociopathical background, to also immerse himself in the midframe of light-followers, valueing balance as a means for long-term sustainability.

History

With House Grayson being lower nobility intelligentsia constantly involved in academic endeavors, the members of the family have always held stations to do with diplomacy, education and holding high advisory roles. Grayson has followed the path of his “caste”, having worked as a diplomat, legal councilor and even tutor for Stormwind's selected youth. However, after thirty years almost exclusively dedicated to intellectual growth and pursuits of the mind, David seeks to skew the house's line and be more of a “public player” in political life. In terms of becoming involved in public political life, he has his sights set on Stormwind, Goldenshire or “Grand Hamlet”, as he calls it.

Throughout his scholarly youth, Grayson has become familiar with literature, the magical and non-magical arts, politology, theology and law. Since he became able to read, pure and ambitious dedication to scholarly pursits was demanded of him by his parents. During these early years under the pressure of being expected to always excel, the side of him that would seek any means to achieve results began to take shape. As the third war swallowed up Stormiwnd's political life of the time, Jake's father's attention was demanded, even if only towards insuring the defense of the House's holdings. The taste of liberty Jacob found during this period free of iron-fisted intellectual discipline created and developed some very strongly hedonistic facets for the young noble.

Around the age of 26, after attaining all of the more easily obtainable degrees of the Stormwind Academy, Grayson followed a natural path into the clerical castes that he found more capable of understanding subtle nuance than the academics of arcane.

With Jacob having been kept away from holding any sway in house decision making, the elder Lord Grayson would find himself exhausted and hardly capable of adequate administration of the Grayson estates by the end of the war effort. Jake's father, having therefore recently officially retreated into focusing on his extensive writing and research, has put Jacob in charge of the House assets. While these are extensive enough to offer a lavish lifestyle, they are not sufficient to sustain a strong enough ascent in the Noble Council. Jacob is occasionally assisted by the talented members of House Grayson, even if only because he holds control over the House's assets. He seeks to gain careful and discreet insight into the political background that Stormwind and Azeroth have to offer, seeking the powerplayers that will allow for the rise of House Grayson to power.
