Ironforge

The city of Ironforge is capital of Khaz Modan. It is home of the Bronzebeard Dwarves and the Gnomeregan Exiles. It is located in the heart of the Khaz Mountain, in the same spot where dwarves woke up after eight thousand years of sleep. The whole city is being powered and heated by the lava of the mountain, which is also flowing through The Great Forge - the greatest creation of the dwarves.

Defenses

The city has two entrances that can be attacked - The Gates of Ironforge and The Deeprun Tram.

At The Gates, there are lots of cannons, which will delay the attack a lot, since the enemy will have to climb the narrow path, which is easy to defend without significant casualties. The gates themselves are also heavily guarded and blocking the enemy there won't be hard. If the attackers manage to breach the Gates, they will reach The Commons, where they will have to either cross the bridges to reach The Great Forge, or go all the way around through the Military and The Mystic Ward, which will take more time and effort before they can reach the throne room.

If the enemy try to attack through the Deeprun Tram, they will have to take over half of Stormwind first, which is challenge enough, but after they head for Ironforge, the Tram can easily be blocked, leaving the attackers between the two cities. If they actually manage to reach the dwarven city, they will have to get through Tinker Town and The Military Ward or The Hall of Explorers, which will prove to be difficult, since the guards will be already alarmed and prepared to fight off the invaders. Only if the enemy succeeds to break through to The Great Forge, they stand any chance to claim the city.

History

Ironforge is the home of the dwarves ever since they woke up from their long sleep. It was once ruled by king Modimus Anvilmar, who left no heir upon his death. This led to The War of the Three Hammers, before which the Dark Iron clan was banished from the city.

The magnificent city of Ironforge is one of the few strongholds in Azeroth that has never fallen to an enemy attack. It is well protected from the peaks of the Khaz Mountain and the mighty Gates of Ironforge.

After the Third War, Ironforge accepted the Gnomeregan gnomes in itself, because their city was overran by Troggs. Currently the Bronzebeard dwarves and the Gnomeregan Exiles are so friendly, that the refugees are sometimes called Ironforge gnomes.

All of these factors make the city of Ironforge the second most populated city (Stormwind being the first) with 20,000 citizens of different races. And while the rest of the world is shaking under the challenges of the wars, Ironforge remains solid and untouched, providing shelter for whoever needs it.
