House Grayson

Head of House: Jacob Grayson

How did the family rise to nobility?

Many many centuries ago, many of the young of important noble houses were tutored chiefly throughout their youth by one man of encyclopedic knowledge and extreme insight that was the bishop-come-archmage Gabreel Grayson. Gabreel stayed a close advisor to many important Houses even past the days of schooling. Being so close to such important nobles, Grayson was awarded nobility and control over the lands surrounding his library-home near the banks of the Nazferiti River in his old age. To this day, though surrounded in a slight layer of heroic myth, Gabreel Grayson is held as the role model to all Graysons.

How does the family sustain its wealth?

The family's chief pursuit is intellectual. They are professors, educators, advisors, casters and clergy. While this is only marginally lucrative, it provides good background and connections for the House's estate-based enterprises: agriculture and hosting-facilliataing commerce. In comparison to other Houses, Grayson wealth is avarage-to-low, but still near-plentiful for expenses and projects.

What sort of assets does the family have?

About 660 subjects over some 25 km², to the South-West of Elwynn, divided as such:

Subjects (aproximate):

- Clergy 10 - Estate serving staff 20 - Militia 40 - Cavalry 40 - Administrators 30 - Traders 50 - Craftsmen 50 - Scholars 70 - Farmers 230 - Misc, Family of the above that don't fall under the categories 140

Land: ~23 km² of farmlands dotted with dwellings. At the center of these lands, other structures are gathered and serve as a nexus of activity, with decent looking dwellings around them:

- Large Luxurious Mansion home to the Graysons. Serves as an administrative center as well. It includes all luxuries a noble would be expected, but also a dungeon-basement, a judgement hall, an arcanium, two classrooms and a meditation chamber.

- Two buildings stand near the Mansion, towards the south along the Nazferiti River : the Chapel to the Holy Light and the staffed large Library

- The barracks, training grounds, stables and forge extend eastwards

- To the north-west, a flourishing bazaar is open for ten hours each day. After trade closes, many of the businesses shift into becoming outdoor taverns or entertainement spots.

What is the family known for?

Reputation: The family is known for their intellectual pursuits and political contributions. They are kind to good-willed subjects, but can prove quite stern and harsh in the face of what is percieved as mal-intent towards House Grayson.

Military: They only control a small Cavalry company that is classed as a part of Stormwind's great army, but it is a very tactically aware elite shock unit consisting of even several knights. A small Militia force takes care of Estate order and rarely calls upon the Cavalry for assistance.

Over the years, the House has prouced many well reputed intellectuals, from clergy to professors, from arcanists to artists.

How old is the family?

The House rose to landed nobility about five centuries ago.

What can be obtained by creating a new family over joining one already in existence?

No noble house of this profile quite exists around Stormwind in the political landscape being roleplayed. The House can attach to many very varied storylines and can allow and bolster plots from noble to dark. And yes, it's already well established.

Is the family open for members to join?

Yes, and members are quite welcome! While Adam is the assigned representative and administrator of the House, his father is still alive and retired into scholarly life. The family tree is kept flexible so as to branch out according to player interest. PM DaveM.

The only requirement is that members broadly fit the intellectual, wheeling-and-dealing, political atmosphere of the house, as intuitive. It is a rather amoral but highly rational House that always tends towards True Neutral. An unlikely member of the house, either uneducated and/or highly chaotic/evil/good/lawful would be welcome only once a more Grayson-like majority is formed.

Motto: "Power to the excellent."
