Personality

Hael is first and foremost an academic at heart. His mind is always working, trying to interpret everything that he sees. His own logic rules his thought process. Finding the right solution may take time but he has the patience to wait and think every step through. This shrewd nature is undoubtedly the result of years doing little else but research and study in the field of fel magic.

A normal life of isolation has had the side effect of making him a very complicated person to socialize with. He reads into every sentence much more carefully than necessary and often times might pause for long moments before delivering a response. At the same time the cruel work he has done on sentient beings has given him little value of lives other than his own. It almost comes off as arrogance that other beings are simply 'lesser' than he. However, truly its the result of Hael having to hide from his own conscious the horrible truth of his work.

Despite all this, he strangely enough desires contact with other people, especially other Blood Elves. This leads to him often socializing with whatever subjects he has to experiment on. He often longs to be able to communicate with others, an experience that evades him so often in life. Its not unusual for him to speak to his enemies or even his demons in what he would assume to be a friendly manner. However, rarely does he actually find himself in the appropriate position for this.

Unfortunately Hael has suffered from a short temper since he was a child. Things must go according to the exact plans he draws out and steps that he thinks up must be taken. Experiments must go exactly as planned. When something goes wrong he is easily swept up in a rage. However, he lost the will to throw tantrums ever since finding himself in the service of a demon and taking the harsh punishments for such behavior. Instead his rage boils up inside him, leading to an instantly colder demeanor and proportionately crueler actions.

History

Hael was born the son of a wealthy family. They spoiled him, meaning that he gained whatever he wanted whenever he wanted it. As a young boy and only son he was doted on constantly. Hael quickly became used to things always going as he desired them to. It was also during his younger years that he developed his short fuse temper, becoming insufferably angry whenever things didn't go his way. His parents allowed it, simply having anything that went wrong corrected. In response Hael allowed himself to get angry at any little thing he didn't like, knowing his parents would quickly fix it.

As he grew older he became interested in magic and academia. His talent quickly grew and it became obvious that Hael was meant to study the arcane. His parents of course brought him teachers and experts to become his daily tutors. He absorbed knowledge quite like a prodigy, not always able to preform certain spells and conjurations but easily able to understand the mechanics behind different incantations he had no hopes of casting at his current level.

He moved to Silvermoon to continue study just years before the start of the Third War and the destruction of his old home. With the shift to using fel magic to sate the addictions of the Sin'dorei and increased study in demonology Hael became the apprentice of a warlock named Lanus who had been studying in Dalaran prior to the Third War. With Lanus' aid Hael started to learn the basics of using fel so that he could eventually turn his focus to creating fel crystals and help the city regain some sense of stability.

It was when Hael first saw a demon summoning that his life took a drastic turn. Lanus showed him how to draw the circle then used his power to summon a succubus. Hael looked upon the dark beauty with wonder and it was then that he committed the taboo that all warlocks know, he fell in love. She picked up on his helplessness right away. In the night she whispered to him, inciting him to help free her from the bindings of Lanus. Hael naively agreed, ensnared by her devious lies and promises. He killed Lanus but gained naught but pain. Once freed the succubus attacked him and left him for dead on Lanus' estate. If not for a groundskeeper who found him and got medical help he would have never survived.

The incident was blamed on a faulty circle. However, while Hael escaped prison he still found himself trapped, now within the confines of his own obsession. He felt hatred and sorrow yet he was torn by the desire to get what he wanted. And unfortunately his longing for the succubus drove him to attempt summonings of his own. He spent months on the topic of demonology, driven to become a skilled summoner. It was in this labor of passion that he learned two things. The first was that ever since the death of his master and his practice of fel there was something eating away at his mind, a darkness that tempted him to forget the past and search after power. He had long past become proficient enough to summon the succubus back, yet he never attempted to do it.

This hunger for power was one that Hael could not comprehend. Where did it come from? Why was there no escaping it? That was when he learned a second truth, the only possible way of understanding what was happening to him and what the end result would be was to keep delving further into the pool of corruption he merely waded in. He dropped everything and went to Outland. It was there where he met the creature that would eventually become his master, a tothrezim.

Hael was wise to the ways of the tothrezim, each one obsessed with riches and gain. But he also knew that they were vicious to those who dared to try and cheat them. They show no mercy to those who owe great debts. Hael made a pact with the tothrezim he met, to collect from one of the demon's high bounties in exchange for tutelage and blood. The demon agreed and when Hael made good on his promise, he entered into the world of the Fel-sworn. Constantly drinking felblood lead too Hael's skin drying out, his teeth sharpening, and his nails becoming long and brittle. The changes were off-putting, yet none he couldn't hide. Since his transformation he has mainly lived isolated, frequently completing tasks for his master while delving further into his research.
