Personality

Alignment: Neutral Good

Greagoir, at first, is seemingly a harsh and bitter man. He feels great pain due to the past, but now that he has joined the Argent Crusade, his heart has been warmed somewhat. A kind, soft and forgiving man at heart, Greagoir seeks only to assist the helpless and weak, although this effort sometimes puts him at odds with his own conscience.

Due to the loss of the woman he loved, he thinks of love and marriage as something that should be held very dear, regarding those who mock such things as dishonorable and unworthy. Being a devoted man with almost nothing to lose, he is quite ready to sacrifice himself for the good of the others.

Being an Argent Crusader, Greagoir is strictly neutral – his success in convincing members of the Horde is, of course, arguable. However, he rarely – never, perhaps – attacks members of the Horde unless attacked first. He firmly believes that every being can be redeemed, save the servants of the Scourge and demons, even the Forsaken.

History

Greagoir Ashdown was born to a middle-class family, originating from Lordaeron, Brill. His father and mother ran an armor shop, earning enough money for a decent life. Indeed, Greagoir was often surprised at how much they earned compared to regular blacksmiths and armorers. The answer his father gave him was always the same: “No matter what you are, anything, be the best at your job.” He would then smile and pat him on the shoulder.

While helping out his mother and father like all good children did, he also practiced swordsmanship. With the sword, he displayed talent as a teenager, and was often sparring with the sons of duelists or wealthy nobles, who’d sometimes sneak away from their estates to meet up with the commoners.

When he had just become an adult, the First War had begun. The First War didn’t affect Lordaeron much, but dire news came every week. One week, Goldshire was destroyed. The next week, Northshire had fallen. Everyone in Lordaeron - at least the common folk, as far as he knew - was wondering if Stormwind would hold against the green-skinned invaders – Orcs, they were called.

A few days passed, and dire news came. Stormwind had fallen, the remaining citizens were fleeing. Lord Anduin Lothar, the Lion of Stormwind, was leading a great many to Lordaeron seeking refuge. In every village, town and city, preparations were made to accommodate the refugees. Brill was no exception. Three more beds were added to the household, enough to suit one family.

The war ended, and years passed. His parents were dead. Greagoir aspired to be a paladin, after seeing them pass through the village after the war, healing the sick with the holy powers of the Light. Greagoir was happy – he had found love with one of the Stormwind refugees who had stayed with them. She was fair haired with somewhat darker skin than pale, and Greagoir started to disregard any other woman as “ugly” after seeing her. Despite the long years, the two had never wedded, however; after considering for some time, Greagoir decided to ask for her hand in marriage. She accepted, and they were to be married the following year.

It was not to be. The Second War quickly came, and this time, right on the shores of Lordaeron. Greagoir took up the sword, shield and armor, heading south to fight the invaders. There, he discovered that the Kingdom of Alterac had turned traitor, and were assisting the orcs in their evil endeavors. He killed his first human then – when his company was ambushed by a joint force of Alterac humans and orcs. He deeply regretted the action, but his comrades thought less of it. This led him to debate with himself, on whether the orcs were worth fighting or not.

When he returned home, he found his love gone. She had left a note, explaining that Goldshire, her home, had started to rebuild, and that she had left to assist. The rest of the note was a long explanation of how much she regretted making that decision, but that the south was her true home.

Greagoir was understandably torn. He had turned a cold, bitter and hopelessly lonely man of 37 when Thrall destroyed the internment camps and freed the captive orcs. He had also put away his desire to being a paladin, being too old to join the order, now.

Life, however, refused to grant him rest. The Third War began, but this time, it was much worse. The very dead were rising, and attacking every village. Thankfully, the ‘plague’, as it was called, hadn’t reached Brill yet. While the continent of Northrend was wracked by the plague, Greagoir was offered a visit to Dalaran by a few mages whom he had befriended, while they were resting in Brill. The journey was long – and in vain. The archmage Antonidas was known for being incredibly wary of outsiders to the city, but the dire circumstances helped him allow Greagoir to stay near the city, enough for him to receive news from home.

He never received news. Not that he would, he was a social hermit when he had. Thus, Dalaran received the dire news before he did – Crown Prince Arthas Menethil had returned from an expedition to Northrend, murdered his father - their beloved King Terenas Menethil - taken the crown of Lordaeron and had unleashed the undead on the kingdom.

Having no other choice, Greagoir left the city, heading south. The Scourge never seemed to come as south as he'd gone, but after a while of wandering aimlessly, Greagoir travelled back north, discovering everything had gone wrong. Dalaran was obliterated, and the few humans remaining were either being hunted down or rallying to the mage Jaina Proudmoore. Greagoir managed to evade the rampant Scourge and demons, managing to find the humans travelling across the sea, to Kalimdor. There, he fought against the forces of Archimonde and the dreadlords when they assaulted the World Tree, buying precious time for the Night Elves to set their trap for Archimonde. He was one of the few who made it back to the elven base alive, and watched the demon explode as the very essence of the world took it.

Time passed. Lordaeron remained with the Forsaken. Greagoir left Theramore quite early, going right back to Stormwind and starting a new life there, opening another armor shop and practicing his fighting skills. Despite his considerable age, Greagoir would often exercise, keeping himself fit.

Now, with the formation of the Argent Crusade, Greagoir joined their ranks at once, volunteering immediately to their cause. He believed the Crusade gave him a purpose in life, which he readily embraced.

During his time with the Crusade, he visited Theramore once again, encountering a fellow Crusade arranging for an expedition into Dustwallow Marsh, to investigate the rumors of ghosts and a haunted house. Greagoir gruffly decided to join. The expedition encountered a group of Horde scouts while in the marsh, but he and his fellow Crusader stopped any hostilities from taking place. Instead, they travelled to the supposedly haunted place, where they experienced strange things.

During his own dream-like state, Greagoir saw the human-form of one Forsaken who had accompanied them, and found her beautiful in life. This experience made him realize that the Forsaken used to be like himself – a human, or elf, and alive. He now believes they deserve respect, as with every other living being.

He now stays vigilant, ready to undertake any task to help the needy and weak, despite his age.
