As she returned to shamanism, she also turned overly attached to her people's traditions, trying to make her life as close as pre-First War as she can.

History

Garuda was born the only child of Kogan Plainscaller, a grunt of the Firemane clan, and Han'ure, a potter, in the Firemane village in Nagrand. She had a relatively happy childhood, helping her mother keep the house and learning pottery from her. When she had time, she would go out with the other kids from the village, especially with a boy called Grekar, the son of a fisherman.

This peace would end with the Rise of the Horde, when her father was ordered to participate in the draenei slaughter. He would return two months later, with his hands bloodied, and horrified. He said he was forced to kill a child, before taking the life of one of his own kind and escaping. Her family quickly packed whatever they could before running away from the village and hiding in the mountains between Nagrand and Zangarmarsh.

They wouldn't remain undiscovered for much time, though. After four years of hiding, they would be found by orcish patrollers, capturing the three and separating Garuda from her parents. She would be taken to the Stormreaver clan, forced to drink demonic blood, and taught the arts of fel magic by them.

However, Garuda was weak as a warlock - for some reason, she could barely summon an imp. Repressed by her frustrated master, she would only grow angrier and never made any progress in her training. By the time the Horde invaded Azeroth and conquered Stormwind, her master would give up on his efforts to make her a warlock and used her as his personal assassin instead. She would work for him in Stonard for six years, until she turned against him, stabbing him in the chest during his sleep.

Stealing whatever she could from her former mentor, she ran away from the camp, entering Redridge, only to be captured by Alliance troops and taken to the internment camp that is now known as Hammerfall. The Lethargy came, and Garuda slowly became conscious again, the bloodlust was gone. It was in Hammerfall that she eventually found someone she thought she would never see again: her mother, Han'ure.

She was now old and weak, and had trouble trying to walk. However, the memories of her daughter were still fresh in her mind. She quickly recognized Garuda, hugging her and crying. After a moment, she was finally able to talk. Garuda's father, Kogan, tried to resist to capture and got killed. Han'ure was taken as a slave by Blackrock orcs, being captured by the Alliance during the assault on Blackrock Spire. Garuda tried to take care of her weakened mother, but the woman succumbed to a fever a few months later. She would be forced into hard labor by the humans for years until Thrall finally freed the orcs from the camps.

Following the Horde into Kalimdor, Garuda would work for six years as a potter in Orgrimmar, using what she learned from her mother in Nagrand. It seemed that now, her life would start working once again, that she would finally have some rest. But she would not. A strange feeling of void started to grow inside her. Deep down, she knew what it was. She was hungering for fel again.

After so much time without using the demonic energies, she was starting to suffer from it. She felt weak, unquiet, and had daily nightmares. She had to do something. Hearing tales about a pool of magical waters in Thunder Bluff, she packed some little food and travelled to the tauren's capital city. Drinking from the Pools, she had a vision of her homeland and decided that the only way for her to find peace would be to return to her village in Nagrand. And so she did, taking a zeppelin flight and walking the rest of the road to the Dark Portal. After crossing the Portal, she would take a wyvern ride to Cenarion Refuge.

Taking the road to the south, she finally reached the ruins of her clan's village. Finally finding the peace she was looking for, she made an oath of becoming a shaman and seeking further contact with the spirits, as her people did before the corruption. She spent a week in the ruins before going towards Garadar, where she would spoke with the town's elders in order to finally prepare for her om'riggor. After passing the rituals, she would adopt her clan's name to honor its memory.

However, as the time passed and she stayed in Garadar, strengthening her connection with the elements, news about the Shattering of Azeroth would arrive in the town. She joined a supply caravan to Hellfire Peninsula, deciding to return to Azeroth in order to help fix the stability of the elements, joining the Earthen Ring and looking to improve her shamanic powers.
