Usual Garments/Armor: When not in a combat situation, Faut wears fairly nondescript leather clothing, but from its appearance one can guess that he would be an engineer. Typically he also carries a wrench in this attire

When in battle, he wears a suit of platemail armor somewhat reminiscent of a knight's, but bearing no special or particular noticeable features

Personality

Faut tries to be pleasant and helpful to everyone he meets. He may come off as a bit too helpful or willing to protect, which he blames on his Peacekeeper training. He sees himself needing to help those out who are weaker or need protection, and is a bit of a bad judge of character on this

He absolutely hates to see anyone picking on a weaker party, and as a result tends to dislike goblins, who he generally sees as a lot of ripoff merchants trying to extort every copper out of someone, or just any merchant with a rumour of having cheated someone. He'll happily ignore any plights they're in, or even actively fight against them.

Faut goes quiet when any reference to Gnomergan comes up, attempting to sideline and just stating he had "A job" back then. Though he had nothing to do with the ultimate downfall of Gnomergan, he's worried what would happen if anyone ever knew he was part of the Peacekeepers at the time.

Other: Faut has an old Mechanized Sentry model Mechanostrider, one of the few thing he's kept from Gnomergan. Its old, worn down and in desperate need of a tune up, but its his.

Faut's main weapon is his Drill-Axe, a two-handed axe he has tinkered with. It is an ordinary axe aside from the rear end of its head, which contains a drill. Mostly useless for actual combat situations, the drill is generally used more for prospecting or mining ore, effectively combining a pickaxe and a weapon into one handy package.

Faut's surname is still his family's one. While he has made inventions in his past (Drill-Axe, for example), he's never felt happy enough with any of them to change his name.

Alignment: Neutral Good

History

Born to a simple middle class family in Gnomergan, Faut lead a fairly standard childhood for one of his race. While many other gnomes tinkered away, Faut always dreamed big, hoping he'd end up making the next big invention that others had overlooked. This lead to a sprat of ill-conceived ideas but, hey, he was a kid.

As he grew older, Faut signed up to the Peacekeeper forces. His hope of making a big invention had diminished by this point, but he was determined to at least make himself a name out there. In the Forces he never achieved much, staying at a relatively low rank, but at least was known for his upbeat personality, occasional grandstanding, and frequently looking the other way, preferring to uphold the spirit of the law as opposed to the letter. While making him popular with those people affected by this, his bosses and the occasional shop owner he let a thief get away from, weren't too impressed with him.

When the troggs invaded, as a low ranked member of the forces, Faut was assigned to less important areas of Gnomergan. He desperately wanted to be down with the elite of the Peacekeepers fighting with them against the troggs, but was not given the chance. Ironically, this was what ended up saving him. On the night of the Irradiation he was stationed right near the entrance to Gnomergan to watch for invaders from outside, making him among those eventually swept up in the first waves of refugees who fled

Faut did not take the loss of Gnomergan well, blaming himself. Most of his former friends from the Peacekeepers had either died or, worse, become Lepers, following the events of that night. For a few years following Faut helped out alongside the forces in an attempt to recapture Gnomergan, but never making any headway. Every time he and other gnomes returned from the ruins of their city, whether to scavenge or rescue more gnomes, they were congratulated, but Faut kept feeling hollow inside. Eventually, one night he just left, taking minimum supplies and hitting the road

Since then, Faut has lived as a traveling engineer and sellsword, selling advice, engineering, or, on occasion, doing mercenary work. He does not particularly have a home, but the closest place he would call one is the Speedbarge, which he stumbled across on his journeys following the Cataclysm. The mix of goblin and gnomish technology sprung something long forgotten inside him, and when he first laid eyes upon it, he remembered that dream of a gnome long ago, who wanted to make the next big thing. And some day, Faut hopes to be that gnome he dreamed of being as a kid.
