Personality

Alignment: Lawful Neutral

Elandriel is very patriotic and would fight with vigor to defend Night Elven lands. Elandriel thinks realistically and would often take a lot of time before making an important decision. This only applies when not in a fight, however, as not focusing on the immediate threat could lead to serious injury or death.

She enjoys tranquil places and would sometimes spend hours meditating or watching the sky. This contributes to her peaceful nature as a whole; her love for nature and her kin is what motivates her to so fiercely protect her home when danger approaches. Elandriel will often be seen taking watch at the borders of Astranaar to look out for threats. When in battle, she prefers to keep back to the rear, killing her enemies from afar with her archery.

History

Elandriel was born many years ago in Astranaar. Her love for nature came at an early age. As a child her father, a hunter named Gatyelm, would take her into the forests and show her the beauty of nature. Here she would sometimes spent hours at a time.

Her mother, a member of the Sisterhood, took Elandriel under her wing and taught Elandriel about Elune. Inspired by the goddess, she willingly learnt and grew closer to Elune. It was not long before she started to learn the abilities to heal the wounded and call on the blessing of Elune. When Elandriel was ready after years of training, she joined the Sisterhood of Elune.

Elandriel trained her healing abilities and aided the Sentinels in battle, most of the time positioned at the rear to protect the wounded. As she grew in her faith, Elandriel started to learn the ability to call down a wave of Holy Fire upon her enemies with the aid of Elune. It was no easy task, and she failed many times, but with time she came close to mastering the technique.

One night, Elandriel experienced a strange, yet very lucid dream about the stars gathering around the moon and casting their light upon her, and her kneeling before the moon. When she woke up, Elandriel felt the desire to learn about her dream and went to speak to her Shan’do at the Temple of the Moon that very day. The priestess, after considering the matter very carefully, finally explained to Elandriel that she has been called by Elune to commence her training as a Priestess of the Moon. The training was to be started as soon as Elandriel felt ready, and she would be trained by her Shan’do (who was a Priestess of the Moon herself).

Still filled with the desire to follow her dream, Elandriel started training within a week. Already being a devout follower of Elune helped to smooth out the training at the start, and lessons consisted mostly about learning the history of the Priestesses of the Moon, their calling and their duties. After learning this, Elandriel was taught to shroud herself from view.

After spending years in training at the temple, Elandriel started to practice with a bow. It was much harder than she originally thought it would be, requiring a steady hand and intense focus. In her first few weeks of training, she probably missed the target more than actually hitting it, and the few arrows that managed to hit was just out of luck. Yet she persisted, and with the gentle help of her Shan’do, she was able to become an apprentice archer.

When the War of the Shifting Sands began, Elandriel travelled to Silithus with the Kaldorei to battle the horrid Silithids. The war proved to be a great test on Elandriel’s body and faith which forced her to push her limits, both watching her allies destroying foes and be killed by them. She was not a Priestess of the Moon at this time, and thus stayed in the backlines to tend to the wounded. She only moved into battle when the situation grew dire, using holy magic to smite her enemies.

After the war, Elandriel returned to Ashenvale. Having witnessed only a small bit of the evil in the world, she started to focus solely on her training as a Priestess of the Moon. As her training became increasingly difficult over the following years, Elandriel’s skill in archery improved to exceed that of a veteran sentinel. During this time, Elandriel was taught to use Starfall and Blessed Arrow. She also started to earn the respect of the Kal’dorei around her for having fought valiantly in the War and for her skill in ranged combat.

After many suffering, sweat and intensive training, Elandriel’s Shan’do announced that Elandriel was ready to go to Winterspring. When they arrived, Elandriel was allowed to tame a frostsaber as her companion. She chose one with a snow-white fur, as it reminded her of her lucid dream many centuries ago. Elandriel named this frostsaber “Starmane”, and the two became faithful companions.

When Elandriel returned to the Temple of the Moon, they had prepared a ceremony for her initiation as official Priestess of the Moon. The beautiful ceremony ended with the priestesses, as well as Elandriel who was kneeling in the middle with Starmane, paying to the Goddess and asking for her blessing. While kneeling in the moonlight, Elandriel felt a strange warmth and interpreted this as Elune’s blessing on the new Priestess of the Moon and her frostsaber.

Elandriel did not join in the First or Second War. However, when Archimonde threatened the Night Elven lands Elandriel lent a hand of aid at the World Tree where the race of the Kal’Dorei sacrificed their immortality to drive away the dreaded Burning Legion. The Kal'dorei never had to worry about dying from age, but with her immorality gone Elandriel suddenly felt vulnerable.

Elandriel returned to Astranaar to meditate. She was sure Elune would still look after the Kal'dorei. When she had made peace with losing her immortality, Elandriel was ready to face the townsfolk. She wasn't suprised to see many of the Kal'dorei grieving about the great loss they faced. Many, if not all, felt just as vulnerable as she did. On some occasions Elandriel even had to face the anger of some, but she was determined to reconcile those around her and explained to them that the Goddess will still look over them.

A new problem arose at Ashenvale, however, as the orcs and goblins started to slowly chop down the forest and establishing camps near Astranaar, and with the arrival of Deathwing new threats emerged for the Kal’dorei. Unwilling to experience the loss of something she loved once again, Elandriel aided the Sentinels in trying to drive the orcs away from her homeland. The attempts were often futile, but sometimes fruitful and she used this to inspire others to help the cause in clearing Ashenvale of the Horde.
