History

Born in the Arathi Highlands to a family of lumberjacks and woodworkers, Ebbe had a fairly ordinary childhood. He spent many days watching his father as he carefully constructed various wares for the kingdom, from furniture to support beams, tools and weapons. When the Alliance reclaimed Stormwind during the Second War, young Ebbe and his father moved to Stormwind to aid the construction.

Ebbe, having grown into a tall and strong young man, became a mason's understudy, and before Stormwind's construction was complete he was a full fledged mason, himself. But hindsight is a cruel mistress, as Ebbe learned. What at first seemed to be a promise of a lifelong guaranteed career in Stormwind's Mason Guild, turned out to be the last time he would be able to walk freely in Stormwind at all. The Mason Guild, with Ebbe in it, was kicked out of Stormwind, and soon after became the Defias, residing in the mines underneath Moonbrook.

Ebbe continued working for the Defias for years, learning from the other masons and engineers. But as years passed he realized that the Defias' dream is not that is going to come true, certainly not in his lifetime, and so he decided he must escape. When he reached Duskwood one night, he decided to take shelter in the Raven Hill then abandoned inn. But as he was trying to construct a fire in the old fireplace, it became apparent he was not alone. A hooded figure stalked behind him, readying a dagger to strike the man down.

As the lifeless body fell to the floor, Ebbe turned swiftly, drawing his saber. His assailant was already dead, as a middle-aged man in ragged clothes was already readying a second arrow with his longbow. After a stand-off that Ebbe could swear lasted at least an hour, he lowered his saber, realizing that the archer has saved his life.

The two men sat down, each sharing their tales. The Archer was a soldier, just on the return from the Outlands, so the two had very different experiences during the eighteen years that preceded that day. Each intrigued by the tale of the other, the Archer proposed a wager. Seeing as Ebbe had to escape, and it was unknown how far the Defias stretch, the Archer suggest he'd take refuge in Shattrath, and that in order to make it a bit more interesting, the Archer's wager was that if Ebbehardt managed to last four years on that foreign world, the Archer would pay him whatever gold he will make until his return, and share whatever knowledge he gathered, as he intends to explore Azeroth after the many changes it went through.

To this very day, Ebbe cannot say why he accepted the wager, but he did. The Archer introduced Ebbe to a High Elven mage that came with him from the Outlands, and the mage opened a portal for Ebbe, directly into Shattrath. For the following four years, Ebbe lived in Shattrath, reading the books of the Scryers, and taking a job as a mercenary to keep himself fed. Though the land offered many hardships, he managed to bear through it even with his dangerous occupation. When he returned, however, as the two men agreed that night, the Archer never showed.

Ebbe received a key to a small cottage, and on the bed of the humble home was a small sack of gold, and a leather-bound journal, signed as belonging to the archer. He used the money to improve his equipment from the Outlands, and decided to travel around the world, occasionally taking up bounties along the way. Ebbe bought a horse and armor for it after getting a few payments for his work, the armor bearing neutral gray and brown colors, rather than common Stormwind colors and insignia.
