Personality

Cerae is unstable. She is by turns sweet and honest and affectionate, or sarcastic, easily offended, and impatient. This dichotomy is mostly due to her excessive use of drugs and magic. Her normal personality is somewhere near a balance, but drugs and magic euphoria will swing her up, and withdrawal and hardship will swing her down very easily. She is essentially lonely, trying to find comfort and pleasure in her addictions, and even in the company of her summoned demons (although this is probably not a smart move on her part). She loves to help causes she believes in, but realizes that she's a burnout and has little left to lose. At this point she's not above sacrificing herself for the greater good. As a warlock she is not particularly skilled since she is mostly self taught and the majority of her knowledge was gained with the goal of using it recreationally. She can summon imps, voidwalkers, and if she's feeling really good, a succubus. She likes voidwalkers and succubi, mistakenly seeing their loyalty as affection. She will summon a succubus just to have someone to talk to. Voidwalkers aren't much good for cuddling, but they do love to be near their masters, which alleviates some of Cerae's feelings of isolation.

History

For most of her life, Cerae was an unremarkable student of the arcane, from an unremarkable family. The Sunflames were merchants in Silvermoon who wanted their daughter to grow up to have the prestige associated with the magical arts. She enjoyed her classes and did reasonably well. Near the time she was set to graduate from basic learning to more advanced magic, the Scourge invaded and tore through the beautiful city. Cerae was in school at the time and so was taken to safety with a number of other students. She does not know the fate of her family but she has not seen them since and so presumes them to be dead. Following the invasion Cerae was so devastated that her entire academic career came to a crashing halt. Grief and anger drove her to seek a power that could restore the glory of her people and rebuild the once-magnificent city. This power she found in demonology. Silvermoon being lax as it was on demons and warlockery in general, it wasn't too hard for Cerae to point herself in the right direction. She dabbled at first but the sensations were addictive, as were many illicit substances she discovered in the lanes and alleys of Murder Row. Soon she came to depend on her fellow warlocks and even her demons to replace her missing family. The euphoria that the spells produced and the feeling of belonging to a group were irresistible. Continued magic use takes a severe toll on the spirit and so Cerae began to turn more and more to drugs to recreate those feelings without knocking herself into a coma. She lived several years in a fog of smoke and magic and euphoric haze. Occasionally a good-hearted paladin would try to rehabilitate her, but she inevitably relapsed. She threw wild hedonistic parties and lived like there was no tomorrow. After one fateful event, a researcher hired her as his assistant. She was overjoyed and went home to celebrate the only way she knew how: throwing the biggest party she had seen in a long time. Whether it was the combination of drugs and magic, or an illness, or just a massive drug overdose, Cerae blacked out and didn't fully recover until after Rommath had begun his reign of terror. She awoke to find her arcane addiction lessened due to the restoration of the Sunwell, and she saw Eyes of Kilrogg and secret agents prowling the streets. She asked a passerby what the Fel was going on, and received the grim answer. From there, her current story begins.
