Personality

From an early age James has learnt that kindness won't bring you very far in this vile world. He tries to be as cold and emotionless toward people with which he has business. He is really easily made angry and quickly gets irritated by people who ask too many questions.

History

Born in Stormwind, Butch wasn't given the chance to enjoy the glamour of the big city. As a son of simple citizen, he wasn't aware of most of the things happening outside the walls. James was a very problematic child always starting fights with other children and getting involved in actions unacceptable by the rules of the Keep. He was often disciplined for his deeds, though he never seemed to change his behavior.

Being such a stubborn kid, his father sent him at an early age to help one of the town's blacksmiths. He didn't resisted to work but continued to show little respect towards his parents. During his time as an apprentice he managed to learn a few things about making weapons and armor. His body was put to its limit as he worked, making him really tough for a kid his age. At the age of fourteen he already had left his parents and started learning sword fighting with some of his friends, while still working as a blacksmith.

By the time he was sixteen, the future of Stormwind was at stake. Hordes of wicked orcs invaded the lands. With no hesitation he volunteered to join the navy. A wise decision that might have saved his life. It wasn't the first time he was on a boat but it was the first warship he was going to be on. He was stationed on "The Spearhead" which was to provide naval support. With the city being taken over the fleet was forced to retreat to the shores of Lordaeron.

When James got established there, he decided to leave the navy and join merchant ships sailing around Azeroth. He wasn't one of the best seamen around but with time James started learning the tricks of the trade. And so, from one ship to another he started saving gold for his very own ship. But his dream didn't get to come true. Both his captain and a large of part of the crew got ill during a voyage. He was forced to stay in a merchant port situated in the jungles of eastern Azeroth. A place not that favorable to honest men. There was plenty of work to be done around. With a lot of manual labour the young man managed to make a living.

As time passed he got involved in some criminal organizations. His attitude helped him a lot to rise in the hierarchy. He became a smuggler, crossing the seas and visiting many places. During this time he got his nickname "Butch". "He was in a tavern, late at night, celebrating another job well done, when a bunch of bounty hunters came in and started looking for him... " the story has many different versions from this point over but they all end the same way. The bounty hunters got slain making the inn as bloody as a butchery and James loosing an eye in the fight." Weather fictitious or not, from this day onwards, Butch started to wear an eyepatch even though it was stated by some people that both of his eyes are well. Also no one seems to recall such an event even happening, thus regarding it as a tall tale.

During the ongoing wars, he kept a low profile, avoiding any involvement. When the third war was at its end, James had a little encounter with paladins going to the Plaguelands. Even though he fought undead at some point, he didn't get involved in any serious battles. Somewhere at that time he used his blacksmithing abilities to forge the armor plates which would become like a second skin to him. It is believed that they were forged from the stolen armor of fallen fighters scattered around the battlefield because of the lack of materials.

Nowadays he enjoys a somewhat calm life still working on ships, trying to stay away from any major troubles.
