Appearance

Bokuru is a jungle troll with considerable bulk and bulging musculature that together with all the scars and burns across his shoulders, back and thighs suggesting he has led a life of toil and abuse. His fur is turquoise like a lagoon in the Sacred Vale and his hair shares its colour with freshly spilt blood which he is letting grow ever since leaving Northrend. A pronounced brow frames his pale face with a persisting scowl, pierced by Bokuru’s gleaming burgundy eyes.

Fetishes made from bones, claws, skulls, teeth or even furs are always carried by Bokuru.

Personality

According to Bokuru the might of a creature is reflected in the strength of its spirit and that strengthening your spirits allow you to become more powerful. His goal in life is to become stronger and as long there is something more powerful than him, that goal remains. But he also likes to enjoy himself, staring into the embers of a bonfire or listening to the thunderous cracking of a moving glacier or treating his comrades to a round of brew, which tends to make him lose focus on his journey to become stronger.

Bokuru has a great respect for the orcs and their culture since it revolves around taking action and the potence of the individual, pushing all orcs to hone and strengthen themselves. Yet he does not stray from the old ways, because what he has seen and experienced cannot be unseen nor undone. For one he still practices cannibalism.

For some reason Bokuru has an unexplained fascination for glass. That an earthen element such as sand when treated with fire can gain properties of water enthralls him.

Skills and abilities

Juju - Despite not being a fully trained witch doctor, Bokuru is adept at the mystic art of juju and can awaken and twist the spirits of his reagents to create various mixtures, both harmful and beneficial.

Call of the Bones - Bokuru can bind the essence of a creature he has slain to a part of its remains through a time-consuming ritual. He then gains properties and abilities the being had in life, as long as he carries the fetish. (These powers mimic the shaman’s, see examples below.) Wooly rhino horn - Allows Bokuru to forcefully tackle an enemy, knocking them back. Snobold skull - Lesser resistance against frost.

History

Born within the jungles of the Stranglethorn Vale, Bokuru was the firstborn son of a infamous Bloodscalp headhunter and his third mate. Early on it was decided that the child would wed the daughter of a witch doctor when he had come of age and as dowry Bokuru would be taught the ways of the voodoo, e’ko and juju. The young troll didn’t agree with the arrangement; he would rather spend time with his friend Marwaz than the female he was betrothed to.

As is tradition a member of the tribe was given to the Gurubashi Tribe, Bokuru was chosen to be the gift from the Bloodscalps just weeks before his rite of passage into adulthood. He became a slave in Zul’Gurub, a source of labour and tortured for their entertainment. Later he and other captives were pitted against each other forced to fight for their lives.

Bokuru had heard legends from his tutor of powerful trolls of old that borrowed features of the great beasts. In awe he witnessed the high priest of Shirvallah change into a huge beast, half troll and half tiger walking upright on two legs and taller than any other troll. The monster then ripped an underling in half, making an example of what happens with those who fail.

After five years of slavery he was freed by the forces rallied by Zandalari that came to the city and slew the avatar of the blood god Hakkar. Orcs of the Horde brought Bokuru back with them to Durotar. The troll was introvert and submissive after the long and cruel captivity and struggled to adjust to a new language and the orcish ways which he knew nothing of. An orc shaman by the name of Jurok took the troll under his wings to aid him in the transition. Bokuru’s progress was slow but in time he took the ways of the Horde to heart. Though the display of the tiger-priest had inspired him and in secret he kept practicing juju.

Bokuru joined the Warsong Offensive and traveled north to fight the Scourge where he fought alongside blademaster Kag’rin in the same warband. On the Borean Tundra he came across the ancestors of the tauren and stayed with them for thirty-three days, to learn about their ways and the hostile continent. With the wisdom gained from the taunka, the troll successfully bound the essence of a snobold to the skull. And while posted at Warsong Hold his warband killed a rampaging wooly rhino which Bokuru then subsequently bound to its horn.

With the Lich King dead and the war over Bokuru sets off on a journey without destination, led by his own whims and the omens of the spirits with the goal to become stronger and collect more spirits to bind to himself.

Other

Bokuru is a fusion of the haitian word for sorceror - “bokor”, the degenerative brain disease that spreads by cannibalism - “kuru”, and lastly the japanese word for manservant - “boku”. The character concept was inspired by the dark faith called Hamingjes (from the guardian spirits hamingjas from nordic folklore) from “Drakar och Demoner - Sixth Edition”.
