Other: As a noble family, House Calethos holds all the trappings of a full-fledged noble house. The House is very wealthy, due to their lucrative trade business that has been going on for generations. Their side-practice of Warlockery has also long been known by the Crown of Stormwind. When dealing with the House's darker practices, it was assumed better to incorporate them, in order to keep a closer eye on them. As such, the House was sold its nobility in order to bring it closer to the Court, so that a close eye could be kept on their doings.

Personality

Alignment: Lawful Evil

Aulten is a rather dominate, cold-hearted bastard. In the public light, he appears to be a soft-spoken tradesman and gentleman, while in private, he is slightly bitter and angry. A shrewd businessman, Aulten is underhanded in his transactions. He won't hesitate to cheat his clients out of money, if the time calls for such actions. When dealing with those he deems less than he, Aulten is often cold and aloof, but he treats his clients with the utmost respect. After all, running a shipping business requires clients to ship for, and insulting the people whose money you will be taking does not bode well for business. Being a proper businessman, Aulten knows when to quit, when to cut his losses and drop out of a deal, and when to put all he can to reaching an agreement. It is worth noting that his one soft spot is his wife, Aemilia.

History

Aulten was born to House Calethos in the years before the outbreak of the First War. The Calethos family had long run a lucrative shipping trade, and had gained their nobility some generations beforehand. As such, Aulten maintained, for the first few years of his life, a slightly sheltered existence. From the time when he first learned to read, only the best tutors his family could afford were brought in from all around the Kingdom of Azeroth to begin the boy's education in all things relevant to his family's interests. His education started simple and progressed to more complex subjects as he aged, eventually evolving from reading and writing to complex economic theories of the time, as well as political knowledge.

During these formative years, when Aulten was a young teenager, Stormwind was laid siege to by the Orcish Horde. Those who could flee quickly did so, and House Calethos was among those leading the pack. During the year or so prior to this assault, it is worth noting that another tutor had been added to Aulten's list of daily education: Warlockery. The House fled northward to the Kingdom of Stromgarde, at that point still a moderately vibrant kingdom. The House took shelter with House Winthrop, who willingly accepted the displaced nobles. Around this time, House Calethos established its current trading status with House Blackstone.

In a mutual agreement between Houses Calethos and Winthrop, their two oldest children were to marry. This was to solidify a relationship between the two families and to repay the debt owed by the Calethos family for staying within the Winthrop realm; the Winthrops would gain a portion of the profit of the family business after the marriage had occurred. During this time, Aulten and Aemilia were introduced, and while neither was horribly inclined to enjoy their impending marriage, at the same time they accepted it as fact, and forced a smile and fake friendliness. As time went on, Aulten's studies in Warlockery intensified in secret, a more sadistic side of the lad showed, when using Fel. He enjoyed using his magic to intimidate and inflict pain on others, and plotted to use it to his advantage in life.

As time passed on, Aulten and Aemilia reached adulthood and were married in the Winthrop family's manor. Neither truly cared for the other, but it was something Aulten was willing to do, in order to appease his family. Before that day, neither had been labeled an adult by his or her family members; after that day, both were considered to be adults. During this time, and the intervening years, Aulten's training in Warlockery.

After several years, Aulten still did not view his marriage with any sort of seriousness. It took a disaster, and the death of his family, to set him partially straight. With the outbreak of the Second War and the northward drive of the Orcish Horde, the Arathi Highlands were rather swiftly decimated. The Winthrop stead was overrun, and many of the family on both sides was murdered. Not a member of the Calethos family that fled north survived, sans Aulten, and only Aemilia, her mother, aunt and cousin survived. The survivors pooled their wealth and fled to Stromgarde, where they lived out the closing of the Second War.

Following the War, word came north that Stormwind was to be rebuilt in the south. Eager to return home, and now more attached to his wife due to the hardships endured, Aulten left with his family fortune and part of the Winthrop fortune as his wife's dowry, and moved south again. Aulten commissioned Masons, some of the same who were rebuilding Stormwind, to rebuild his destroyed manor in the north of Elwynn, whom he decided to pay moderately well for their job. The family business began to trickle back into place, as ships began to dock in singles, then small groups, in the family harbor. By this point, it would be easy to say that Aulten deeply loved his wife, not only due to her personality, but due to the shared hardships of both Wars.

Aulten was eventually discovered as a Warlock by Aemilia, but he managed to talk her into remaining quiet about it. In exchange, he offered to train his wife in Fel magics, if only to expand upon her knowledge of magic. Now, Aulten spends his time double-dealing on business transactions, selling to both sides of conflicts; his business partnership with the Blackstone family has come in handy, as he ships the goods the family supplies to combatants. Generally, again, both sides. Aulten's current goals are rather a mystery, even from his loving wife; oftentimes, he would disappear from the family manor for days at a time, only to return haggard and unshaven, with no real explanation of his whereabouts.
