Alexei is, at first glance as well as his core, a hearty companion. He enjoys spending time in good company, drinking and telling stories or making jokes, an all-around joker and the kind of person you invite out to the pub after the work is done. He is friendly to all he meets at first, giving everyone a fair go until they prove themselves unworthy of his respect. He will turn from a friendly face into a mortal enemy if someone openly confesses to being evil or reveling in harming other people, having a disgusted hatred for anyone who harms others for their own enjoyment.

Travelling on the road with him is a normally humorous adventure, with his demeanour often livening up the trail. When a situation comes down to life and death he will do whatever he can within his power to prevent the death of any innocents or people he cares about. He would willingly be the one to stay behind so the whole party can escape some terror. It takes a real heavy situation for him to drop his jokey mood and bring out his more aggressive side. He likes to consider himself a bit of a ladies man, despite never having had a girlfriend and likes to be very manly to impress attractive females.

History

Alexei Cevin lived in Stormwind as a boy, growing up with his twin sister, Alicia and their father as their mother had died during childbirth to the twins. He would play with the other local boys, fighting each other with toy wooden swords and took quite a love to swordplay, often besting larger children with his wit and speed. These days of happily playing soldier while his sister studied her magic came to an end when his father grew ill and took to being bedridden, unable to work and support his two thirteen-year old children. He died a few months after, leaving Alexei and Alicia to be turned out into the street since they could not pay rent.

They survived on their own for a while, using the meager sum their father had left them to buy food when they needed it and Alexei was able to keep the other, more brutish teenagers away from his sister and himself with his rough swordsmanship. This continued for a year until they began to not even be able to afford bread, having dried up the inheritance gold and one day they were doing what they usually did, milling about in Old Town, sticking to the edges of the streets and trying to not be spotted by ne’er do ‘ells when they were confronted by a small group of people ranging from their own age to early twenties who looked grubby and as street-ridden as themselves. Apparently the small gang had heard of Alexei’s ability to keep unwanted sorts off his back and of Alicia’s magic which they thought would be helpful in tricking storekeepers so they could relieve him of his coin purse. They offered protection from the guards and from lone thugs and rapists if they would offer their services to help the group keep out of the gutter.

The twins agreed, needing help with not starving to death and keeping themselves alive and would spend the next two years helping the gang lift purses from merchants and do dodgy deals on "magical artifacts" with aficionados. The next notable event in Alexei’s life would be the arrival of a new street urchin into the ranks of the slowly growing gang. Everything about this boy seemed the same as every gutter child they picked up except he carried a broadsword far too big for him and wore a hat made out of cloth in the shape of a wolf’s head. The then-fifteen year old had just arrived in Stormwind after his farm in Westfall was sacked by bandits. He introduced himself as Drayke Simmons. Alexei, who was one year his elder, took him under his wing and taught him a few skills he had learnt over the years.

He had begun regularly visiting the cathedral in Stormwind to see and talk to the Paladins of the Order whom he revered with high honor since he longed to be like them, able to help people and bring justice where there was evil. On the eve of his 18th birthday, he was given the opportunity to leave his dirty life of street crime and be something better in the form of a certain paladin offering for Alexei to be his apprentice, an invitation he eagerly accepted. With his sister safely studying away in a school of magic, enhancing her magical abilities, he was forced to say goodbye to his friend Drayke who was left with the gang which had grown in boldness and size. He spent the next five years learning what it meant to be a paladin whilst being taught how to properly wield a sword and shield. He had an affinity for invoking the Light’s powers to aid him, but not in the form of healing lights and invigorating strength. No, his connection with the Light manifested itself as holy fire, whiter than snow and hotter than a smith’s furnace. He thoroughly enjoyed the idea of smiting evil people and destroying their presence in this world with a blaze coming from his own soul.

After being inducted into the Order at the age of twenty-three he would travel where the church sent him, finding people who had committed grievous sins and turning them to ash. He took great pride in the work he did until one charge he was sent after changed his opinion on both the church of the Light and on what Justice truly was. When he caught up to his target and was in the position to kill them, he wondered “Is killing someone because a man in a robe who never steps outside his house told me to truly bringing justice to the world?” He decided that this was not the way to help people and when he returned to Stormwind next, told the Archbishop he was resigning from the Order and that he knew his destiny did not reside in dusty tomes and preaching ceremonies. While Alexei did leave the Holy Order, he did not leave his connection to the Light behind, still able to conjure his flaming essence when it was required. He now travels the globe, unfunded by the church and not getting and of the revering he used to see, searching for anyone who has cast off their morality and preys on the innocent, absolving them from their heinous deeds with steel coated in burning wrath.
