Personality

Alignment: Neutral

Reserved and slightly aloof, Alandris is slow to warm to others. Her training as a ranger has made her adaptable and decisive, if also slightly unpredictable. Socially, she is something of a loner who prefers the company of few, and tends to avoid populated areas like cities and towns. She is sensitive to nature, but accepts that arcane is an intrinsic part of the world, too. She believes in harmonious balance.

Due to her participation in the Second War, Alandris has a low opinion of Orcs, and distrusts all Trolls. She actively avoids their company, and if she can’t, she remains bitterly terse when interacting with them. Although she understands the need to work with the Horde, she has no taste for the other races which compose it. When it comes to the Alliance, particularly Humans, she has a mixed range of feelings. She fought alongside many of them, and thought well of them. Regarding Night Elves, she has a strong curiosity regarding their shared ancient history as well as empathy for their love of their homeland.

History

Eversong’s preternatural woodland cosily nestled the village in which Alandris grew up. The sheltered family hunted to thrive, and sold any excess wares to travellers. They were not as affluent as those who resided within the capital, but it was a comfortable life with adventure enough. Her parents were at ease even when their daughter was absent for weeks at a time, never surprised when the girl returned with an animal escort of some description. On the occasions when she decided to spend a sojourn at home, she would bury herself in history books and the rest of the tutelage she had forgone in lieu of wandering.

She wasn’t an aimless wanderer however, nor a dreamer infatuated with the grandeur of nature. She was well-aware that as fine a provider as the natural world was, it was also a merciless killer. A satchel of experience was ever slung over her shoulder, and regularly added to. Her travels were undertaken with no less than the utmost caution, and she strode with purpose. That purpose was discovery.

Alandris had become intrigued with the distant split from the distant kingdom of the Night Elves. By now, those events had trickled down into a romantic tale of liberation and manifest destiny, but the budding historian was unconvinced by the documented account. At birth, she had inherited a small amulet with an unusual crest. When she was old enough, it was briefly explained that it held significance to their family’s history, but no one remembered what that significance was anymore. She had nothing to go by but the majestic avian silhouetted against a crescent moon that her crest embodied. Her primary theory was that the relic was a remnant of the time when the moon was revered as a symbol of strength, and that she could find uncover the truth of this if she retraced her predecessors’ steps far enough back.

Finding her way into the ranks of The Farstriders while she was still young, Alandris began to develop her skill in combat. On the fringes of their territory, she had encountered the shadows of trolls before. She had steered clear of them, and kept out of sight when need be. The bestiaries only described them as brainless, savage, feral beasts, and they had yet to prove themselves otherwise to her eyes. The first time she crossed one on hostile ground, she assisted in slaying it without a second thought.

Her life continued that way for many decades. She was among those who followed Alleria Windrunner during the Second War, very conscious of the threat that the trolls and their new allies presented. During her assistance in managing the fires rampaging along their borders, she lost many of her kin. Her band was flanked from the trees, and only she and one other ranger, Nariel, survived the attack. Shaken, Alandris decided not to join the Alliance Expedition.

The warpath Arthas tore through Quel’thalas obliterated her birthplace and everyone in it. Fortunately, she was not among that number, but her parents and the community she had grown enamoured of were. Basing herself at the Farstrider Retreat, she mounting a bitter and fruitless defence against the Scourge, but no one was able to halt the tides of destruction. Reborn in blood, Alandris joined the Sin’dorei, and drank the strange energies that served as sustenance in absence of the Sunwell. Until it was restored, Alandris poured her efforts into defending her homeland.

Gradually, her people pulled themselves from the ruins and she found in them the strength to continue fighting. With an age of momentary, relative peace dawning upon the world, Alandris began to remember her childhood quest; the investigation of her ancestry. With a renewed, if still-fragile spirit, she set out to continue it.

Skills and Abilities

Combat Competencies: Her strikes are calculated and measured, and battle is an art of precision, to her. With a bow, Alandris is most effective at medium range, though she is capable of pulling off difficult shots if the need arises. She depends on swift, cutting attacks when forced into melee, and is most practiced in the forests and semi-rural areas, where she can use her environment to her advantage. Quick and agile, she is adept at traversing difficult terrain. Occasionally, she will enlist the assistance of her lynx companion.
