Personality

Alignment: Lawful Good

In a word, Alaia is shy. Terribly shy. She often stammers when she speaks due to nervousness and tends to speak rather quietly, often only when spoken to. If you get her on a topic that she is passionate about, she can speak clearly and more loudly, although her version of "loud" is about average volume for most other people. She avoids crowds as best as she can, often keeping a distance from others. The Priestess often plays with her robes, gripping them tightly, or balls her hands into fists when confronted by people she doesn't know or by many people at once, though she doesn't tell people why she does so. She will avoid confrontation at nearly all costs, unless she finds a reason to do otherwise. However, if push comes to shove, she will defend herself and fight back. She will fervently defend the Holy Light and the Church as well as those who follow the Church's teachings.

Despite her seeming social frailty, Alaia is deeply compassionate toward others. It's one of the main reasons she became a Priestess to begin with. If someone is injured or seems troubled by something, she will go out of her way to help them. Even if she cannot necessarily help them directly, she will try her best. She likes making friends but finds it hard for her to do so due to her shy nature.

Alaia hopes one day she can become a stronger person. She would like to aid warriors and paladins on the battlefields but finds she cannot handle blood and injuries well. This has caused some problems when it comes to healing the sick and injured, but Alaia usually manages to get the job done. She's working toward being able to be on the battlefields and being able to openly--and quickly-- heal those who need it, but for now, she is staying local.

History

Alaia grew up to an average family in Lordaeron. Since she was a child, she knew she wanted to become a Priestess when she grew older because she liked helping people and wanted to do so for the rest of her life. Her parents figured it was just a childish whim that would fade but the youth's dreams never wavered. As a young child, she dreamed often of warm, soothing lights. When she told one of the local Priests about this, he told her that she was destined to become a follower of the Light.

However, when she was around the age of eleven, the unthinkable happened. The plague swept across Lordaeron's outlying lands, leaving a wave of devastation in its wake. Her parents and her immediate family believed they were safe in the walls of the capitol, but they were wrong. Soon, the Scourge, commanded by Prince Arthas himself, invaded the once-impenetrable walls of Lordaeron. Alaia's father urged his wife and daughter to flee the kingdom while they could and take refuge in Stormwind to the south. He would stay and fight against the abominations destroying the city. Alaia hadn't realized at the time that her father was rather inexperienced at the art of war. She and her mother fled south and took refuge in Stormwind's capitol, waiting for her father. They heard about his death only perhaps a week later. Apparently he didn't last very long.

Her mother, Tessa, sought work in one of the city's tailoring shops, working to help support the two of them. From there, the two of them have begun to rebuild their home, living simple, modest lives. Alaia picked up some minor sewing skills; while she can't make a dress or anything complicated, she can at least make repairs on various goods. When she became of age, Alaia began the application process to becoming a member of the Church of the Holy Light, still holding onto her childhood dreams, perhaps even more fervently since the rise of the Scourge. She did reasonably well in the classes of the Church's history, their mission, and other information. The lay priest teaching her allowed her to proceed to the next part of the application process. Alaia has virtually lived in the Church since then; she has studied the rituals, the prayers, the devotions, for years.

With the crowds of people in the city and church facilities, Alaia requested that she continue studying at the Northshire Abbey just outside of the capitol. It was quieter there and she could help more people, as there had been reports of growing kobold and wolf populations, not to mention the rising group of bandits known as the Defias. With only the Cathedral of Light in Stormwind to help the people of Azeroth, Alaia sometimes travels to neighboring towns, offering help when and where she can. Even though she has barely begun her work as a full-fledged, accepted member of the Priesthood, she has been blessed with its powers. While her powers are, at times, weak, she shows potential.
