– Adrias Bladewind

Description

Standing above most other humans at 6'6", Adrias' large frame can be rather intimidating. A sturdy build and well worn features suggest that he is no stranger to physical activity. His body is muscled, but not to the extent that he might look ill proportioned. His considerable height and muscle both contribute to his weight, which fluctuates between 185 and 200lbs. His skin is lightly tanned, and it would be fair to assume that the man spends the majority of his time outdoors. When Adrias takes his helmet off, his long, straight, earthen-brown hair falls down both in front of and behind his wide shoulders. His eyes are a mix of a dull lodestone gray and a frosty robin's egg blue. Adrias' body, unlike most other fighters, is virtually void of scar tissue. This probably has less to do with him being a better fighter, and more to do with the heavy armor he wears into combat.

A finely crafted under armor of chain and leather lie between his skin and the outer plate mail. The heavy iron plate pieces fit him perfectly, because it was crafted for him specifically. Although large and dense, the armor is contoured to fit his body, hardly restricting his movement at all. This metal shell covers the majority of his torso and limbs, but leaves some of his joints to be protected by the chain beneath. The set is ornately decorated with golden emblems, all of which depict some facet of Alterac symbolism. In fact, it is so finely made and detailed, that when it was new it could have been revered as a piece of art. Well past its prime however, the metallic carapace is covered in scratches and small dents that Adrias was unable to pound out with fire and hammer. The once lustrous silver sheen has all but faded, and the greaves are caked with traveler's mud. The most extreme wear though, is on the gauntlets, which now hold a discrete red tint, that persists no matter how much they are scrubbed. Equally battered and tinted, are his two weapons.

A pair of identical short swords with wide blades. They glisten wildly, even in the dullest of light-an effect of the mithril used in their forging. Their handles are wrapped in faded blue leather, and a similarly blue gem is fixed into each of their pommels. The hilts are slender and sharp, with the crest of Alterac etched into the centers.

Though both his armor and his weapons are of significant symbolic value and his most prized possessions, he has recently been browsing blacksmiths around the Eastern Kingdom for something less fatigued.

Personality

Although relatively young, Adrias comes off as overly serious and mature. He might be seen partaking in festivities occasionally, but its much more likely that you'll find him knee deep in some dangerous locale.

Adrias is stoic and introversal, keeping his feelings to himself. His emotional spectrum is rather simplistic, but that doesn't mean he is void of complex emotions entirely. His most common attitude is that of objective determination, keeping his eye fixated on his goal. Perhaps the only thing that could really unsettle Adrias(aside from extreme situations that pang the cruelest of hearts: abuse, rape, infanticide, etc.) would be some intense and continual belittling of the people or nation of Alterac. However, if someone merely states that they dislike Alterac because it betrayed the Alliance and disgraced itself, he will bite his tongue because he realizes that they have the right to feel this way. It is the exaggerated mockery of his home that he cannot stand.

When with a group, he'll willing take the role of leader. Coupled with his introversal personality, this often leaves his subordinates in the dark as to what they are doing exactly, but given time they come to trust Adrias' judgment. His orders are simple and concise, leaving little room for argument. As in his social interactions, he won't let unforeseen circumstances cloud his objective reasoning.

In combat he manages to maintain 'most' of his composure as the adrenaline surges through him. His blows are well timed and precise as he swings down on his enemies with power waiting for a lapse in their defense. His view of death is just as detached as the rest of him, seeing it as an inevitable end to every warrior(both good and bad). He pays respect to the dead, but does not mourn for them.

With few contacts outside of Southshore, Adrias' friend count isn't that staggering. However, all of those he has would vogue for both his integrity and loyalty. Like any other man his age, he has been with women in the crude sense. However, he has never really considered any of them to be significant and is unsure if he even has romantic potential.

When meeting a person for the first time, he is cautious but trusting; finding that cooperation leads to success more often than mistrust. Empathetic to those who share one of his plights-ostracism, disgrace, or isolation-,he is willing to stand up for those being persecuted and spend time with those who are alone. Though he has met no other virtuous people from Alterac yet, he hopes that he will be charismatic enough to persuade them into joining his cause.

Adrias has about one gold coin for each of his friends, so his coin purse is rather light. He doesn't mind though because he does well at living within his means and conserves the sporadic pay he gets. Were he to come across a grand sum of gold, he would probably opt to keep his lifestyle near to the way it is and personally donate the rest to causes he deemed worthy.

History

Only three when the second war began, Adrias knew nothing of what was happening. His father, a loyal knight bound by oath to Perenolde, aided his traitorous lord in the majority of his vile deeds. When Aiden learned of the approaching Stromgarde soldiers, he sent Adrias' father and a small host of other fighters on a suicide mission to stall the advancing force(in hopes that his new orcish allies would reach Alterac in time). The diminutive party was crushed however, under the mighty blade of Trollbane, who proceeded to Alterac's capital and laid waste to it.

His father though, was smart enough to realize he was being sent to his death and had Adrias sent to his aunt's(who's husband was with Adrias' father in their final moments) home deep in the mountains of Alterac. Once the war had ended his, now widowed, aunt moved them to the small gulf port of Southshore. The Magistrate at the time was hesitant to let exiles of the mutinous Alterac live within his city, but because it was a single woman and a child he succumbed to their plea.

Spending the rest of his youth in the port town, Adrias was ostracized by the community as the son of a traitor. When he came of age, he enlisted in the local guard to prove to his community that he had worth. Following a particularly severe raid by Gnollish forces, Adrias was praised a hero for his bravery in defending the town. After another year or so, he was promoted to deputy, and with the extra time in town was able to pick up blacksmithing as a hobby. After only two years, Adrias resigned from his duty so that he could tend to his dieing Aunt(ailment unknown). Before passing into the darkness, his aunt told Adrias of his heritage and the mutinous actions of Alterac. After her funeral, Adrias -now 27- packed his bags,After her funeral, Adrias -now 27- began questioning the locals about Alterac.

One of them informed him that a group of Alterac nobles was rumored to be residing in Strahnbrad, a small annex town of the ruined Castle Alterac. Eager to learn more of his heritage, he packed his bags and headed north into the mountains. On arrival, he was surprised to see the broken down buildings that made up the creaky old village. Advancing through the town center, Adrias couldn't help but get the feeling that he was being watch, and yet there wasn't a person in sight. As he approached a rather large building on the far end, two men stepped out to greet him. They were dressed in matching dark stained leather, and one of them wore a orange bandanna around his face. They invited him into the building, with overly friendly grins on their faces.

Following them into the dark structure, Adrias peered back over his shoulder and spotted several shadowy silhouettes in various windows around the square. He patted his pocket, confirming the dagger's presence. Inside, the hall was brightly lit and there were about a dozen more men and women, all wearing the same leather attire and most bearing the orange scarfs. He was told to sit down. He did. The entire room sat and watched intently as the original man without the mask spoke. He questioned Adrias' name, allegiance, and purpose of travel. When he mentioned that he was a descendant of Alterac, the room went quiet and the air went tense. Not daring to continue any further, he sat silently, looking up to his interviewer.

At long last, the man spoke. He began to tell Adrias the details of Alterac, and the story of its betrayal. When he was done with the history, he continued telling Adrias that the group before him now was comprised of the people of Alterac as well. After their exile they formed an organization that dealt in more 'shadowy'(he said this word with a suggested significance) affairs. Adrias listened, not liking what he was hearing. The man referred to the group as 'The Syndicate', and Adrias immediately knew how dangerous of a situation he was in. A good bulk of his time in the Southshore Watch was spent on chasing elusive criminals with that affiliation. Adrias looked around, tuning out the dangerous man as he tried to concoct some form of escape plan.

Adrias' thoughts were interrupted when the man suddenly paused. Looking to the brigand, Adrias held his breath. He got lucky though. The man resolutely ordered that he was free to leave unscathed, due to their shared ancestry. Mentioning to the others that he could see Adrias' did not have the heart needed for their line of work. Finally, he told Adrias that should he come back again, he would not be so kind.

Adrias left in all haste, though he was unsure of where to go at this point. He couldn't go back to Strahnbrad, that was obvious. But he also felt that he couldn't go back to Southshore knowing what he did now. After aimlessly wandering the mountainous trails for a few days, he decided that he would continue to traverse the mountains as he sorted out his place in the grand scheme of things.

During this sojourn he honed his skills in combat by doing battle will all manner of bestial creatures. For a stint of this time period, he created a makeshift forge where he furthered his blacksmithing skill(and forged his decorative armor).

Now, at age 29, he has decided on a course in life. He has sworn to rectify the misdeeds of his people and restore honor to Alterac. Now, at age 29, he has decided on a course in life. He has sworn to rectify the misdeeds of his people and restore honor to Alterac.

Other

A letter received by castle Stormwind several weeks ago

Your Majesty, King Varian Wrynn,

I am Adrias Bladewind, son of a kingdom who once held its head high, but now hides in shame. My lineage lies deep within the mountains, in the ruinous remains of Alterac. You most surely remember our betrayal of the other kingdoms, and likely are disgusted that one of their seed now writes to you. However, I am here to begin the long process of reconciliation. For I am sorry. There are no words for which to describe the shame and disgrace I feel festering inside of me, growing exponentially even more so as I confess my thoughts to you. But, amongst these sinister feelings of scorn and distaste, is the presence of flourishing resolution. I will make amends, and restore honor to the people of Alterac.

I offer my loyalty to you and the forces that you lead. I do not ask you to trust or accept me -because I've not earned it-, and I think it would be best if I acted independently for the time being. I will travel these lands, aiding your people and troops wherever I may find them. Also, I vow that so long as I shall live, the people of Alterac will remain loyal to the Alliance. Any who dare threaten this sacred promise shall meet my vengeance; before there is any harm done to your coalition.

I am certain that reading these empty words does not leave you convinced of my adamant determination... and perhaps you think that I am just a bored soldier looking for glory. But I have one more promise to make. Finally, I vow that through my deeds and feats towards the betterment of the Alliance's standings, I will have fame. But not fame for myself, for when those of whom I aid ask my name, I will reply, “My name is not important. Just know that I am an honorable soldier of Alterac, loyal to the Alliance.” And through these acts of heroism, my message shall spread. I will be spoken of in taverns and barracks across your kingdom. And eventually these stories will make it to you; you will hear of my renowned work. Then you will know. Know that the people of Alterac are not all despicable, and that we lament for your fallen, as well as our own. Know that the noble kingdom of Alterac is attempting to reconcile for its heinous past deeds. And Know, that should you need it's strength, I and whoever else of my brethren be willing, are yours to call upon.

Now I must be off, for time is fleeting and I've much work to do.

May victory come your way,
An Honorable Soldier of Alterac
