Skills and Abilities

Battle Skills

Fireball

Whirlenda summons a fireball which she whirls at the enemy. Weak effect. Can either focus it as a weaker heating spell or as a stronger but scattered version (the one she'd use in battle.)

Blast Wave

Whirlenda focuses arcane into an outward circle of weak flames. Very taxing spell.

Inferno

Whirlenda doesn't normally use much mana/magic energy. In the event of a disaster, it's well possible Whirlenda could summon all of her mana energy into a single spell that would completely tax her, but deal massive fire damage to anything around her. She has been close to that, but we don't really want that to happen. Really.

Arcane Skills

Whirlenda developed better utility magics. She can very decently conjure, usually tools, sometimes water. She can also heat the air and focus a very powerful, but very low surface, fireball. Typically she will use it instead of phlogiston-powered preigniters. She can also blink, which she uses to get into engines, or just for plain fun. It remains a taxing spell, and she also worked on spells that slow the fall of items and lifts them off, provided they are solid and consistant enough.

Thermodynamics

The gnome has got a good grasp of thermodynamics and a great knowledge of many engines and theories. Entropy has almost no secrets for her, at least as far as gnomish knowledge on the topic goes. She usually does not power her engines with magic (except igniting them), but she is a great and creative inventor, and makes for a fine engineer.

Also quite knowlegable about alchemy basics, optics, shipbuilding, and also very resourceful when it comes to making makeshift items!

Personality

Alignment: Neutral Good

Gnomish. Whirlenda's a rather common gnome, in fact. She's the quiet kind, quiet though not shy, just keeping to herself. Whirlie's also a quite loyal and compassionate person. She's quite tolerant too, but she has her limits. She's curious and fond of reading, brings about her open mindedness. Especially when it's something reguarding technology. Curious brings about recklessness and she is often fondly known for falling infortunate victim to her own inventions, especially the "test" versions!

Whirlenda's got a thing for all things tinkering and in fact made herself an engineer. She wants to make a living and maybe find something helping in retaking her hometown. It's something that never leaves her thoughts.

Tends to hum tunes at random, giggle just as randomly. Likes to groom herself, but not to the point of whining because some wind draft pulled her hair or something. Not preppy.

History

Wirlie's born the last of a family of four brother in the depths of Gnomeregan, the gnomish hometown. Her father was a subway operator and her mother a mere tailor. She's lived through an happy chilhood, going to public school with other gnomes, including her siblings. As her brothers left the nest early one after the other she dreamt of a life outside her home, perhaps following in her footsteps, though neither were great engineers. Not all gnomes are great tinkerers, but she was, certainly a family thing, despite her brothers' more mundane paths of life. She made her first invention at age 14 - so rather small - and especially got a thing for energy, thermodynamics, and phlogiston. She'd invent petty stuff like combustible lemons and apples, clocks counting milliseconds, and self-powered mini vehicles. Oh! These weren't her only childhood inventions! She drew much more blueprints, just never could build them. She also learnt the basics of Arcane during this time, and thought of ways to combined the powers of magic with her technology. This time was crucial, too, in that she learnt to defend. The staff or metal bar was a good choice for her she thought, but she was never battle minded. She learnt few battle spells, but a lot of utility incantations that make her a sort of Conjurer. She has begun since then writing a separate spell book in which she has carefully written all these spells ever since, and she keeps on using it nowadays and holds onto it preciously. More than all of her blueprints, most certainly.

What gave her her name however is what would be for a while her most brillant invention - a narrow and high cylinder that would lit a bulb up when enough people blew on a wheel, that was stitched on top of the cylinder. She would often be seen with her little invention, trying to make it work through wind drafts, that she was given the name, Windseeker.

She drew plans for much bigger versions of these wind turbines, studying more advanced fields of science over the years. Her brothers had all become guards in Gnomeregan or bureaucrats and had left early, but she had stayed home. They wouldn't admit it, but their parents had feared that none of their children would bear great technological wonders, so for them to have such a brillant daughter was a real blessing, you see. But then came the fall of Gnomeregan. Perhaps the most painful moment of her life - with the mandatory warrior training she got she helped fight to her best, but they soon had to withdraw. She was part of the big group of gnomes that vouched for that bomb, before they fled - something she's very guilty about even nowadays, as most of her family didn't make it. After a while she pulled a smiled, and somehow moved on, though still very bitter about what happened. She made herself at home, in fact, later on in Everlook, a busy merchant hub, yet remote enough not to be disturbed. There she makes engines, what she knows best, and a few arcane powered machineries, as well as working on a great wind engine that eventually wouldn't need phlogiston at all. Her most prized blueprint so far is a sort of movable iron mini home, with a turret, that could fire shells...for you see, her main desire for now is to take her homeland back.

Death

Her death came after she joined shady dealers into the Catacombs. Her lab crumbled and she found herself, in a matter of months, completely destitute, especially after her employeers were arrested. Still, she pooled her last resources as a final revenge. Building an immense war strider and recruiting five gnomes, she set the Inn of Shady Tears, owned by the dwarves who got her employeers arrested, ablaze. She rampaged the area, hunting the whole dwarven family - but Drena, along with Gavin, Lylia and Ogukar who happened to pass by, managed to bring an end to the gnome's existence as revenge for the killing of the dwarven family.

Whirlenda was buried by Tauren engineer Kepora in a small hole in Dustwallow March, only marked by the ruins of the inn, and rusty, salvaged parts of a giant mechanostrider.
