Personality

Alignment: Lawful Good

As a Templar of the Argent Dawn, Hugh has what some may consider unorthodox views of the Light and of faith in general. He is free to explore with his ideas and beliefs, not bound by the funding and thus ideology of the Church itself. He is of the belief that there is no ‘wrong’ Religion, as has been proven by many-a-wounds left by Shadow Priests, Shaman, and Priests and Paladins of other various religions. Rather, he believes in a Cosmic Duality; He prescribes to the notion that what the soul believes is what the soul gets, so long as one follows through with the base tenants of that faith. He himself chose to continue following the Light once converting to this notion, because the Light deals directly with the two Dualities; The body, and the soul. It heals and soothes both equally, unlike Shamanism which has its focus on souls in the after life rather than the present.

This idea, in addition to fighting alongside most every race and ‘class’ with the Dawn, leaves him far more open to interaction with the peoples of other races. Incidentally enough, he will often times get along -least- with members of his own race (As well as Dwarves and Draenei) for his unusual views on his Faith. He does not however, let ecclesiastic or theocratic debates get a rise, rather opting to slowly move off of the subject.

As the above indicates, Hugh is a simple man when it comes to his attempts at social interaction; He wishes to have a strong, enjoyable conversation with as little conflict as possible. It is his goal to leave the ones he comes in contact with in a better mood than they were prior to his meeting them, and leave a good impression of the Holy Light on those that may be partisan or at least attempt to sway others into bipartisanism if not outright following of the Holy Light.

History

Hugh Cavaliere was born to a Kul Tirasian Sailor of the Grand Admiral’s Third Fleet that managed to escape the wreckage of the many destroyed ships into the Wetlands. His only companions being another sailor and a Paladin who was guarding the shipment of Lightforge aboard the Flying Osprey. The three were unable to find any other survivors. It was during the course of their trek through the Wetlands, avoiding what Dragonmaw and other various Horde Clans that they could, that the Sailor grew to favor the Paladin as a friend. The two were soon nye inseparable, and in due time, the Holy Man rubbed off on the Kul Tirasian. He converted to the Light, and was trained in the ways of a Paladin.

He brought his new knowledge home to his wife and son, whom he both officially converted, the family being nontheological at the time, aside from idle pagan beliefs in the sea and sky such as what omens may bring good luck to the sailors. From then on, Hugh was raised as a child of the Light, and was brought into the tutelage of his father, becoming the man’s squire. Once of age, Hugh set off with his father onto one of the many Crusades set on the swan-road. They took, along with several ships, the quickest path to the north. Into the dread lands of Loraderon. The Paladins, along with what warriors were conscripted to the ship, leapt onto the Blighted soil of the Plaguelands and fought with what vigor they could.

What they were not counting on however, was the ability for the Scourge to survive underwater. The Undead destroyed the hulls of their ships, leaving the crew stranded. They fought back with the vigor of those knowing that they will die regardless of the situation. Many died that day, Hugh’s father among them. The freshly dubbed Paladin swore revenge on the Scourge for what they had done not only to his father, but so many Tirasians before him. The Holy Man took what members of the crew were left and waded deep into the Plaguelands, hoping to find remnants of the local government. It was there that they stumbled upon Lastwatch Redoubt, one of very few Human settlements left.

The group of Sailors had rough going within the town however, able to do little to pull their weight in the mountain town, being men of the sea. They mostly conscripted to guard posts, battle being the only thing that they knew. It was here that Hugh’s ideology of the Light began to take different turns. He noticed what differences there were between his own use of the Light, and the use by the priests of the Elves that lived there. This intrigued him, and he began to reevaluate his own faith; Not doubting himself, but rather seeing new horizons.

The splendor of the last haven of Lordaeron however, could not live on forever. The inhabitants of Lastwatch soon set out on an exodus en masse. Many of the Kul Tirasians left went with them, but some followed Hugh to what was the forming Argent Dawn. His ideas on Faith were spread further then as he met with all different kinds, of all different races and creeds. His ideas on Cosmic Duality were formed here, and built upon in due time. The Dawn took notice of not only his fervent zeal to stop the undead at any and all costs, but his ability to take liberties with his Faith. It was these aspects of his personality that lead them to draw him into the ranks of the Templar.

He trained for quite some time there with the Argent Dawn, but word soon spread of his people having headed far to the west to a new land dubbed Kalimdor. He excused himself part way through his training, and headed to the new tent-town of Theramore where he joined in the battle against the Demons at Hyjal. The paladin did well, and gained at least some notoriety within the rank and file he fought near for his ability with not only his mace, but with the Light as well. There were spells that he used, taught by the Dawn, that most Kul Tirasians had never seen.

With the battles there finished, Hugh set out on a short Mission through the local towns and villages. The times that he was not met with blades barred, mostly by those who had also fought in Hyjal, he preached what he could of the Light. Many remembered either the cruelty of Paladins in the Internment Camps or their kindness. Regardless, as far as Hugh knew, he was unable to convert any members of the Horde to the Holy Light. Not let down by his lack of success, rather having gotten a renewed vigor in his faith for having tried, he returned to the Dawn to finish his training. Just in time as well, for the Burning Crusade was set into full effect, the Dark Portal opened, not long after his official dubbing as a Templar of the Dawn. He set out into Outland, fighting back what demons he could, eventually returning to Azeroth to fight at the Sunwell.

He did of course, shortly after, return to the Argent Dawn and the subsequent Argent Crusade to fight far in the north. He battled on many fronts, but found himself time and time again in the snowy lands of Icecrown, preparing for the battle to come. In due time it did however, and he along with many others, laid siege to the gates of Icecrown Citadel. The Lich King fell, and the world was left with one less menace. His free time restored, Hugh has turned to the life of a missionary once more, operating a mobile chapel on a boat left by his late father, renamed in his honour.
