History

Gerald was born in the once glorious city of Stromgarde, Lordaeron near the start of the first war (Year 1). His father (Lord Gerald Grandale the II) was a man of the honor and of noble blood, and one of the great knight's of Stromgarde. When Gerald was six his father left to fight in the second war, his father returned to Stromgarde a hero and a Knight of the Silver Hand. After the war Stromgarde became its own kingdom and because of this Gerald and his father left and moved to the holy city of Stratholme. At the age of 14 (Year 15) he was accepted as a Squire under a notable Paladin by the name of Lazarus, and he was an old friend of his Fathers and a great teacher of young knight's. Lazarus taught Gerald everything he knew about the light and what it meant to be a "Knight of Honor".

As the years past by Gerald returned to Stratholme at the age of 18. Gerald returns to his father and left the teachings of Lazarus, and began his life under the teachings of his father. Together they traveled the lands searching for those in need and continuing to training. One day while they were traveling the Northern Kingdoms, a messenger from the Silver Hand had come to greet them with a letter informing Gerald that he was to undergo training to become a Paladin of the Light. His Father couldn't be prouder of him; Gerald would leave his son and return his brother.

It would be a long and grueling path and it started with a year of study. Gerald returned to Stratholme and began to study the ways of the light. Gerald finished the first stage of his training and at the age of 21 (Year 22) he started his training under the guidance of a number of important members of the order. Gerald was not the only one who was undergoing the training and together they slowly mastered the skills required to become a paladin. The training was going very well but was cut short when all members of the Silver Hand were summoned to combat a new threat. In the northern parts of Lordaeron a vicious plague was spreading, and Gerald moved quickly to reunite with his father. His father had orders to move to Stratholme and assist in its defense. When they arrived they were shocked to see that the city was filled with hundreds of undead creatures. His Father acted fast telling a number of his knight's to stick with Gerald while he and the rest moved to find Uther. He told Gerald to hold his ground until he returned and when his father left he tried to hold his feelings at bay but he couldn't stand and watch as his brothers died fighting the undead, and so he acted.

Gerald ordered the attack and moved in to assist the forces that were fighting in Stratholme. He killed everything in sight whether it was an alive or dead, it was too chaotic to figure out in the massive battle. In the middle of the battle they were met by a powerful demon and Gerald watched as Arthas challenged him valiantly. At the end of the battle most of the city was left burning and the smell of death was in the air. Gerald looked in horror at the bodies that surrounded him, he saw many villagers among the bodies of the undead, and he watched as Arthas and his men as well as those who followed Gerald moved to chase the Demon that commanded the undead. When his father returned to Stratholme he was shocked to see what had happened to the town and his son. He took Gerald to Stromgarde where they stayed and tried to figure out what the next course of action was. They got word that the Silver Hand was staging a counter attack against the undead horde, and together they marched to meet up with the attack.

They traveled quickly receiving word that the attack was already underway, but when they got there they were too late. What Gerald saw made him think of Stratholme. Hundreds of dead soldiers, knights and paladins were scattered all over the place. There were some survivors here and there but most were too far gone to be saved. They moved slowly until they were in the middle of the field, it was silent and something just didn't feel right. At that moment their fallen brothers slowly rose from the dead. As the undead surrounded them they realized that they had no choice but to attack them. As Gerald, his father and the remaining knight's battled on, the hordes of undead continued to circle them. Things were looking grim as they were slowly being killed off. Gerald smashed as many of them as he could but there was nothing he could do. At the last moment his father summoned the last of his Holy Strength to blast a hole through the undead. Gerald and the few remaining knight's moved quickly in an attempt to escape the horde. The Knight's continued as Gerald looked back to find his father collapsed on the ground wounded. Gerald ran and grabbed his father pulling him out as they made their quick escape.

When they finally made it far enough away they stopped; Gerald took a look at his father who was bleeding badly. Gerald looked for one of the other knight's but they had continued to run. Gerald knew it was up to him to save his father, but as hard as he tried he couldn't summon the power to heal him. Gerald could only watch as his father died. His father looked up at him and held his hand tightly as he said his final words.

"The Light will be with you always my son, but you must...."

Gerald blamed himself for his father's death; because of his actions at Stratholme he was unable to use the light when he needed it most. Gerald buried his father and shorty after began his journey to a new land. Gerald thought hard about his father's last words and made attempts to reclaim the light but he eventually accepted his fate and traveled to North Shire where he stayed in solitude for several years....
