Other: Dael'ar is a living Death Knight. I've not seen this played, but I've deduced on my own the traits of his living state and Powers. This is purely rational thinking and the stoic use of relatives.
-He feels the full range of emotion, and has a clear recollection of his past, unlike the unliving Death Knights.
-In addition, he has bodily functions similar to that of normal elves. However, due to the Necromantic magic he wields and the side effects of the ritual, he can go slightly longer than most without food, has a high pain tolerance, and needs little sleep in order to function. Basically, it's a middle-ground.
-He has the full range of Death Knight powers, but not the same undead strength they have. As such, he relies heavily on debilitation and magic, and less on close combat. Neither is he is not as resilient as undead Death Knights, and it does not take as much to kill or otherwise debilitate him.
Appearance
Light plate of darker hues in accordance to Ebon Blade standards. Clothing? That's funny. I admire your humor.
Personality
Alignment: Neutral Evil
Dael'ar is a contradiction to the Death Knight stereotype of a rotting, soul-stealing brute with a giant sword covered in necromantic runes. He's rather more cultured, and less inclined to the dark and brooding nature most Death Knights suffer. That isn't to say he denies his own nature. Death Knights were inherently created with the purpose of doing evil and slaughtering as commanded. If the Lich King was the hand, the Death Knights were the sword and the ghouls the shield. He can't help his urges of slaughter and tattered moral code. It's been ingrained into his mind as surely as the desire to live. After you've been subject Death Knight doctrine, killing's as easy as breathing.
He doesn't find the idea repulsive. It's who he is. He has no trouble accepting his nature and disdains anyone inclined to think otherwise. Likewise, he has no fancies of leadership or rebellion. He was created to serve, and he accepts that as well. However, he does have a strong belief in freedom since his freeing of the Lich King. For now, he is driven by his service to the Ebon Blade, but unhappy in his servitude. What else could it be called? He has doubts about the Ebon Blade and regret at ever joining, along with bitterness at how he's treated. This gives his usual emotional state a dry and bitter tinge, mixed with whichever feelings permeate him, for he does feel just as any normal elf does, being yet, still alive.
History
Dael'ar was born into Elven society to a common family to the south of Eversong Woods, and lived for years in an establishment of little consequence. He showed an affinity for the arcane arts, and was recruited to Dalaran to study as a mage. He completed his apprenticeship without much fuss, and chose to specialize in Transmutation as a first and Evocation as a second. He proceeded thus, taking infrequent trips back to elven lands until he was well off enough in his studies to return and practice magic there.
Thus, his role in defending the Sunwell during Arthas's Siege of the Third War. Initially, he had fought with elven forces before being beaten back to their precious source of magic. As the reoccurring waves broke upon the remaining Quel'dorei defenders, his nerve broke along with several others, and he constructed a portal, fleeing the battlefield. Dael'ar now fled both Kirin Tor retribution (constructing a portal that did not lead to a specific drop zone is punishable by death) and Scourge forces in Northrend.
As expected, Scourge eventually found him after years of a hiding, cutting him down in his attempts to teleport to safety. Instead of killing him there, however, he was taken to Acherus and subjected to the Death Knight ritual without the customary pre-death. The result of this infrequent experiment was he, a Death Knight of the living. Apparently, they had their uses, but he was far from respected. He received prejudice on three accounts; his living status, his elven heritage, and his preference for the spell-casting arts Death Knights employ rather than close-combat. As such, he never gained much esteem, and was on the lowest rung of the Death Knight caste. The other initiates often shunted him in training, and many showed open hostility, saying he was "false" and not a "true Death Knight".
This didn't interfere with his usage against the Scarlet Crusade. Just as well as all the other Death Knight initiates employed, he was sent into the fray to slaughter, terrorize, and scatter Scarlet Forces to pave the way to Light's Hope Chapel. At first, he was reluctant in his duties, but soon took to it out of fear of punishment and his own agonizing hunger.
Dael'ar was still in the Noxious Glade during the attack on New Avelon. When the Lich King was weakened by Ashbringer, he felt the hold over his will loosen. He quickly distanced himself from the other, less sentient members of the Scourge and began fighting furiously for control over himself. Finally, he cast off the Lich King's presence and freed himself, overjoyed at the revelation. From his vantage point, he saw a large group of Death Knights descending upon The Glade. At this point, Dael'ar proceeded to panic thoroughly, convinced he must have been noticed and sent for. Rather, to his surprise, the group of knights road in and started killing all the Scourge in the area. He came to the conclusion that they must have regained their will as well, and hastily joined them. Naturally, he became a member of the Ebon Blade and has filled his role there since, mainly as a worker of the petty jobs as a Messenger and Courier. Old habits die hard.
