Personality

Alignment Chaotic Neutral

Posthumously, Crassus has many of his feelings beyond his sense of touch and has grown into that of a philistine. Lacking motivations such as a libido or hunger he is quite lazy, spending most of his time thinking. A trait that bled over from his previous life is he considers himself a philosopher and is very extroverted in sharing his thoughts, especially with those that disagree with him, through this Crassus is a pedant and tends to condescend. Despite his lack of care for life Crassus is not violent nor does he seek to kill, he would rather talk to an adversary. Since his death and resurrection Crassus has devoted himself to the pursuit of knowledge.

History

Crassus was born to the well to do Fex family of Alterac, who moved there from Dalaran to escape Kirin Tor regulation. The family found wealth as local magi, the father of the house, Aloysius Fex, even gained the prestigious role as a noble lord's house mage. With wealth coming in so easily for the family they could afford to have many children. Crassus was second oldest and followed his father, brother, and mother into the practice of magecraft. Crassus and his brother, Aemilius, were in constant competition in all fields, from studies to women. As Aemilius took upon himself the path of a pyromancer Crassus, in spite of his brother's decision, took the path of a hydromancer, and later cyromancer. Crassus was mocked by his brother for his rather cliche decision but Crassus cared little. Crassus and his brother grew to be men and gradually their competition grew into a stand still as the two brothers found wives and married. Crassus' wife, Cornelia, was much like Crassus but vied for power far more than Crassus ever did and she never took a job, spending most of her time in her studies.

When the First War broke out Crassus assisted a small Alteracian army as an adviser, preferring to stay out of the battle himself. Crassus' advice was mostly ignored our drowned out by the other intellectuals who were also summoned as advisers and eventually Crassus was forced into the battles anyway. By this time Crassus was fighting Frost Wolf Orcs who were trying to settle the Alterac Valley, Crassus and the army he was fighting in lost and he retired to the politcally tumultuous Alterac City. When Crassus returned home he found his wife had a new friend, this friend had arrived per her request to teach Cornelia necromancy, under his nose.

When the Second War broke out and Alterac began its collapse Crassus, Cornelia, and Cornelia's tutor fled north to Lordaeron to escape more fighting, Crassus' sons, who were both young adults, stayed in Alterac and joined the Syndicate. Crassus lost contact with his family at this time and lived a meager existence in a cottage Cornelia's tutor owned. It became impossible to hide their craft from Crassus in this time, thus they presented him an ultimatum; leave the cottage or tolerate the craft. Crassus, due to pressure, fell into necromancy himself and began learning from the mysterious tutor as well. When Scholomance was founded the three moved into the academy and swore allegiance to Kel'Thuzhad and the Cult of the Damned. In this time he grew to gain a level of mastery over necromancy and became a teacher of a few of the new pupils.

In the Third War Crassus led a small cohort of necromancers and their thralls against a group of Scarlet Crusaders, his military tact was still not up to par and him and his entire group were captured. All of the underlings were swiftly executed and their bodies were burned, Crassus however, was subject to a very cruel death, the Scarlets tore him apart limb by limb, cut off bits of his skin and eventually the commander came and finished him off with a hammer to the jaw. What remained of him was crucified in the ruins of an abandoyyned church. A few weeks later, Crassus, who had rotted quite a bit, became the feast of plague ridden maggots, and he was born once more under the Lich King's command.

As a mindless servant Crassus could do nothing, having no jaw, no limbs, and still being crucified, so he just squirmed around for a long while, decaying more and more as time pressed on. He gradually regained control over himself, though he had lost many of his memories of his past life, including his name. Crassus could still not move and saw no need to call for help, thus he remained in there for what seemed an endless amount of time. Eventually a prominent necromancer under Sylvanas' employ moved into wandered into the chapel looking for spare parts and a place to set up a laboratory. When he found him he reveled in the opportunity and took the mangled corpse down from his crucifix and began attaching parts to Crassus. When the necromancer was about to try and raise him as a thrall Crassus spoke up, revealing he had been alive the entire time. Crassus was grateful to the necromancer, whose name was Saul. He became an apprentice to Saul and relearned his old craft, which he found he learned rather quick, as though he had done it before. Crassus, not knowing his own name, was bequeathed the moniker "Smiles", for he had no jaw and Saul had a cruel sense of humor, Crassus being cultured very little accepted the name. Saul eventually fell to brain rot and Crassus slew him out of mercy. Crassus now wanders, occasionally he takes parts from other corpses to keep himself in tact, though he never replaced his jaw.
