Personality

Mostly considered to be a good individual, Charmian has her good and bad sides. Usually a good person, Charmian is helpful to most everyone she comes across. If one interferes with her studies, however, she can become irritated rather quickly. Friendly, eccentric, and mostly humble, Charmian is considered to be a little joy much of the time, although the stress of the pursuit of magic can bring her down sometimes. Being curious as many gnomes are, her desire to know more about the Twisting Nether, as well as the Arcane Arts is placed over the feats of engineering and tinkering much of the time. She can be overly cautious at times when dealing with other spellcasters due to the many tales read up on the folly of Humans, Elves and others who have fallen victim to the addiction. There is a deep passion for Magic, although she does not see it as something to control others, merely as a way to enrich life.

History

Born in Gnomeregan, Charmian was surrounded by gnomish engineering and ingenuity growing up. Her family deeply rooted in a long line of engineers, they wanted nothing more than their children to grow up the same way, only to find that one of their daughters preferred the topic of magic over becoming an engineer. Considering her family was formed of mostly engineers, Charmian was fortunate enough to come into contact with a technomage who was working with her father. It was through this meeting that Charmian first became fascinated by the arcane arts.

Her family was apprehensive with their growing bond, but after several more years rolled by, and Charmian's interest in engineering continued to dwindle, her family decided it would be best to support her with her passion. With the technomage too busy to take on a young apprentice, she was recommended to a gnomish Illusionist who was seeking an apprentice within Gnomeregan. Ecstatic to meet her new mentor, her family's mediocre funds set aside for Charmian's pursuits was enough to prepare her for the long years of studying.

For several more years, since her apprenticeship began at the age of 12, Charmian's spell casting abilities grew steadily. Strongly influenced by her mentor, she decided to pursue becoming an Illusionist;her talents grew at a much faster rate after making the decision to focus solely on Illusion for some time. Leaving Gnomeregan for some time to study abroad with her mentor, she traversed the Eastern Kingdoms with him. Exploring ruins dating back to ancient times, as well as searching for rumored magical artifacts, Charmian's magical abilities continued to grow, as well as the bond between mentor and apprentice.

When Charmian became twenty seven years of age, she was released from being an apprentice considering she learned all that her mentor could teach her on his own;she needed to go out into the world and expand her knowledge by herself. For twenty five years she did this, expanding her knowledge in the School of Illusion greatly, until she had a unhappy encounter with an insane mage who had gone rogue from Dalaran. She was unable to defend herself and after a short battle, she was taken by the rogue mage to be used in the evil woman's next ritual.

Barely clinging to life while she was dragged into the rogue mage's cave dwelling, the mind of the woman's pet wolf was able to be influenced by the last of Charmian's power. Tricking it into believing Charmian was friend to it, and the rogue mage a foe, the wolf saved Charmian, while swiftly bringing the rogue mage's life to an end. Dragged to a nearby dwarven outpost in Loch Modan, the wolf eventually died by the hands of the dwarves when the spell wore off, causing it to become rabid once again. The entire experience made Charmian realize that she needed a new way to defend herself. Her mentor had always said that the best defense is a good offense. This eventually drove Charmian to the conclusion that she needed to pursue other forms of offensive magic, and decided on the School of Evocation.

Having met an Evoker recently, she traveled to Dalaran to meet with the mage. She was allowed to study in the magical city with her human friend, where she spent twenty seven years of her life delving into the School of Evocation, while also continuing her studies in the art of Illusion. Studying up on the vast array of knowledge possessed within the libraries of Dalaran, she became a Magister of the Kirin Tor during her stay. It was at the beginning of the Second War that her abilities were truly tested.

Joining the Alliance on behalf of the Kirin Tor, she tested her power within the School of Evocation, while also primarily calling on her skills within the School of Illusion. In the end, Charmian was lucky enough to survive the war with a minimum amount of wounds, while being lucky enough to have been able to receive first hand experiences of just how powerful magic is, and how dangerous she can be when wielding the destructive magic of Evocation. Returning to Gnomeregan after the brutal war, she continued to study Evocation and Illusion, but mainly focused on seeing the family she was only visited several dozen times over the long decades.

After fourteen years of continuing study she considered herself to be a seasoned Illusionist, but only somewhat close to being a formidable Evoker when confronted in battle. Her skills were tested once again when the troggs invaded Gnomeregan. Fighting valiantly to save her family, friends and her place of birth, it was for naught when the gnomes were defeated. Lucky enough to survive, much of her family, and many of her friends were able to escape, although not all of them were as lucky. Losing a sibling, several friends and the countless inventions that her family had created, she made residence in Ironforge with the rest of her people.

Seeing as Dalaran had been destroyed, and decided on neutrality even after the Horde had been responsible for much destruction in the events of the Second War, she saw no point in returning to the rebuilt city, at least for the time. In making this decision, she left the ranks of the Kirin Tor permanently. Deciding to stay with her people, and The Alliance, Charmian's choice of alliances has her now at arms with those who threaten her fellow gnomes. Currently in Tinkertown, Charmian intends to travel to Stormwind in order to visit the Academy of Arcane Arts and Sciences so that she may train further in the School of Evocation in order to protect those that she holds dear, while keeping a vigilant eye on any who would threaten the safety of Ironforge.
